First of all, make your patterns like raw building blocks. Typically you have a pattern with a beat and minimal percussion, a pattern with a beat and lots of percussion, a lead melody pattern, a baseline pattern and a strings pattern. Later you can add patterns that fill up your song like sweeps and a crash, an upcoming snare etc. Give each pattern usefull names.
Now start with the beat + minimal percussion for 4 times 4 beats long. Then the beat + lots of percussion and the baseline for 4 times 4 beats or 8 times 4 beats. After that try strings and baseline, let the lead medody come up and work to a climax with beat + lots of percussion, baseline, lead and strings melody. Now finish your song :)

Or go with what feels right as long as your intro and outro is mixable you wont need to use a set pattern be creative.

Totally agree with that. I was just trying to give head start. I've listened to alot of newbie produced music, and a common mistake is to add or remove one instrument at the time (after every 4 times 4 beats), making the song really boring. It makes your patterns overly complexed too...
