Not my personal fav's admittedly, but it's a very good list. :) Ramsterdam was such a nice uplifter, certainly deserves its place... happy too to see Matt Darey's track with Kate Louise Smith higher on the list than in the ASOT top 20, that's one vocal track worth loving. :icon_thumright: Overall, glad to see more variety. :yes_new:

My congrats to Tomek, and nice artwork Sjagga, really like it. :D Can't wait to hear Luconia's mix! :bg:

And of course, thank you guys for all the work, and to the TF members who voted... this is one poll I look forward to. :)

Definitely the trance list of the year, (apart from Man On The Run, Waiting and Faces)
Aztec should have been in the top 5 IMO :icon_mrgreen: Nice artwork Sjagga, and congrats to my Hungarian friend Tomek!

Nice list. Certainly a lot of my favorites.

I really do think that while RAMsterdam was good, I don't know about #1 for me.

JvD's remix seemed dangerously similar to Lemon & Einar K's "Anticipation" :icon_eek:

Id say this list is pretty acurate
even it not thinking about ONLY the people on this website because

i do a weekly LIVE BROADCAST
one of my shows is a TRANCE show

and over the past 6 months
these were the top tracks voted for on my show

1,2,4,5,6,7

in that order
track 3 not as much :bg:

Good work everyone

I think Nothing At All is over rated. Sorry but its my humble opinion.

This top 25 is pretty much spot on in terms of pure uplifting trance. But for a tech trance fan like myself, I think alot of tracks are missing ofcourse.

I am very surprised to see that Bliksem never made it into this list no matter how much it got overplayed.

I also think NaA is overrated..

But isn't Bliksem more of a house track (sander van doorn right?)?

it's a funny list, i expected something like this, though.

seems like the majority of voters are just satisfied with copying someone else's opinion and even embracing it as their own... i can easily see 80%-90% of people having gaia - tuvan in their lists, though i find it average at best (though andy blueman makes it slightly better)

the list looks like something armin would put on a cd and sell for $$$ (and so he has with most of these tracks) , but has nobody really listened to anything else than this for the whole year? lol

or have you just been brainwashed and had forgotten about the real gems that were produced last year? :)

here's my list if anyone's interested, they might not make it into your top5, obviously they're my personal top 5 because they invoke some special feelings in me, but they're definitely worth a listen if u haven't already.. (and if u are wondering if i have an Observer & Heatcliff bias, the answer is NO)

01. Haylon - Starfighter (DJ Observer & Daniel Heatcliff mix)
02. DJ Observer & Daniel Heatcliff - Fake Call (3 PM Ocean Drive remix)
03. Airbase feat. Floria Ambra - Interfere (Dub mix)
04. Talla 2XLC vs. Robert Burian - Deja Vu (Giuseppe Ottaviani remix)
05. Ben Nicky - Special Moment (Steve Allen mix)

i had no doubts about the first 4, though i admit, no.5 clinched the spot due to my vonyc sessions bias...

interesting list, not what I was expecting but what is this world coming to.. lol nah it's a solid list!

great mixing job by Luconia, I'm going to have to just take it to my next gig and just play that...perfect way to sit back and eat a sandwhich to the beat....it's just that good! hahaha jks jks..about the eating a sandwhich part of course.

Any chance of a cue sheet?

Just looking at it... happier with it than the ASOT Top 20. Got some of the tracks in there I missed (woot, Aztec), and some of the ones I thought shouldn't have been so high did manage to get shuffled down a lot (or completely out - thank god, Broken Tonight is horrible).

Its overall top 25 in so many styles. The possibility to get a top 25 of own taste will be low.
I have organized a more specific TOP100-2009 to the Uplifting Trance, vote by the uplifting minded ppl and mixed by 10 uplifting DJ's.
But RAMsterdam was one of my personal favo's, so I'm happy he is on the top.
Thanks for the ppl who did this hugh work, to do this top 25, Iknow it from the top100 below (flyer).. hugh work to do it.

05. Ben Nicky - Special Moment (Steve Allen mix)

I really digged the original mix of Deja Vu (although maybe not what I'd call a phenomenal song), but I didn't like the Ottaviani remix... wrecked it a bit for me.

And yeah, probably most who vote for the well-known tracks do flock to the popular radio shows/Dj's (although time limitations can be a factor... I've been there, it takes some commitment to branch in other directions and listen through hours of music). But still, I wouldn't think they'd vote for a track that they didn't genuinely think was great/very good, and not necessarily because everyone else liked it. Two of my own top 5 got airtime on ASOT, I voted for them simply cause I thought they were amazing songs (granted, both of them ranked low or not at all in the ASOT top 250).

Anyway, just to say, many of the much more unknown releases are IMO some of the best there are... but I personally don't see a problem with loving something that happens to be quite popular, if one truly thinks it's good (and sometimes it really is). Unfortunately, even my own choices this year were limited, cause I haven't been able to invest much time into music... but I certainly didn't base it off popularity, just what I've been exposed to.

Finally the ordeal is over!

i'm pretty satisfied with 3-4 tracks in there, RAMsterdam was featured in my La Energia series (meaning to say it's good enough to be on my personal list) and at least Everlasting (my personal anthem) is there too.

If not for terrible tracks like Find Yourself (argh i hate this!) & some vocal tracks that is soo out of place in there, i believe the megamix could flow better.
well, it's your choice...presenting the chart toppers.

But it's great to see alternatives to the main top 2009 ones out there.

Most of my choices were in.

My bets for top3 was also correct but not in the order the tracks showed up. Nevermind next time.....

PS: Trancefixers voted the three most overplayed tracks of last year as the best for 2009. Don't want to be offensive but as we see brainwash finally has results. LOL..... (I voted Nothing At All at my TOP5)

Hey All,

What shall I say... :)
First of all thanks to all of you who voted and picked the same tracks as his own favourites which I'd made my bet on also. hehe :)
Let me thank to Trancefix as well to make this voting possible and if you ask me the result is fine (maybe better than ASOT Top20)
Also thanks to all for the pleasant words as being a winner of this competition, I really can't believe this! :)

In my opinion 2009 was an excellent year for trance, I really enjoyed every moment of it. Without this kind of music I would be lost in this muddled world... but I think, I'm not the only one.
Hopefully we can enjoy this for ages, we can share our memories when big names drop choons at huge gigs and people go crazy, and so on...

So thanks again, 2010 is at hand, let's see what it holds to us...

Regards,
Tomek Berd-R

Heaven.

Unfortunately, even my own choices this year were limited, cause I haven't been able to invest much time into music... but I certainly didn't base it off popularity, just what I've been exposed to.

thx for the reply to my rant, i realize i'm somewhat hitting a dead end here.

Yeah you're right, it comes down to personal taste and everyone is influenced by something. To me, asot is like a fast food restaurant chain these days, while it may still be the holy grail of trance to some. Not saying the tracks that get played there are bad per se, just that the wrong tracks get overplayed for the wrong reasons (my opinion)

As always, some of us will complain because there are some missing tunes and so but to fit everyone tastes is so hard to reach. This top is much better than ASOT and actually I like it. RAMsterdam was a great uplifter and Andy's Tuvan is a lot better than the original but I'm pleased to see many of my favourites.

Thanks to all people involved to make this TF Top 25 (you know who you are) and congrats to Tomek.

it's a funny list, i expected something like this, though.

seems like the majority of voters are just satisfied with copying someone else's opinion and even embracing it as their own... i can easily see 80%-90% of people having gaia - tuvan in their lists, though i find it average at best (though andy blueman makes it slightly better)

the list looks like something armin would put on a cd and sell for $$$ (and so he has with most of these tracks) , but has nobody really listened to anything else than this for the whole year? lol

or have you just been brainwashed and had forgotten about the real gems that were produced last year? :)

here's my list if anyone's interested, they might not make it into your top5, obviously they're my personal top 5 because they invoke some special feelings in me, but they're definitely worth a listen if u haven't already..

I voted for that track but not GO mix, I was for Club Mix and I pretty disappointed not to see it into the Top.

That last point is exactly what's wrong, I agree... we see the same Armada label names over and over. It's straight out pimping. They're heaped with praise even when they produce lack-luster work. And all this promotion of vocal pop "trance", they know it'll hook in a bigger crowd... personally, I believe that being able to use sounds to draw the listener in, rather than vocals that beg for the listener's attention, is a mark of true artistry. But this is thrown out the window for the easy and sell-out route, by creating a track with pop appeal (that's the one real criticism I have concerning that).

Who's fault is all this though? Well I do understand that DJ's play what the fans want to hear, but at the same time they have a choice to take risks on some unknown names, whose work has a lot of merit but possibly not what the mainstream will appreciate (and this is more than just giving the track airtime once or twice, it has to be actual effort to promote this unknown artist). If someone like Armin did an overhaul to the content of his show, he probably would lose a lot of listeners... although I bet he'll gain many more back of a different kind, at least over time.

But I doubt people like Armin are willing to risk that, and listeners may not be open yet to other artists whose names haven't been hammered into their heads (or perhaps they are, and are waiting to be wowed--but are looking in the wrong place). Trance needs a revolution of sorts, but it seems no one's ready yet. :nooo:

i have been preaching this for a long time now (with http://www.petitiononline.com/nonvox/petition.html and http://dfx.at/savetrance/ being results of certain bored/pissed nights), but with armada, armin and asot being the leaders of the "trance" scene, i don't see a change happening any time soon.

there's still lots of good trance (both DJs and producers) out there, but they will never get the recognition they deserve, so it's up to the amount of digging you do to find them. additionally this means that the result of any public voting will be the already overrated and overplayed tracks, quite logically.

Quality vocals will offer uniqueness and emotion to any song that a synthesizer can only dream of. The amount of real originality in synth these days is appalling.

Quality vocals will offer uniqueness and emotion to any song that a synthesizer can only dream of. The amount of real originality in synth these days is appalling.

It's not about individual parts but collective elements and intricately woven sequences.

One part on it's own will never make a song, unless you're easily influenced.

As for vocals I wish there were some better writers out there doing them. Sometimes you can't fault the singer, just the direction they've been given.

I think a lot of vocalists, especially for Trance, are usually also writing their own lyrics - unless it's a true "pop" release. For example, I know Jaren writes her own lyrics, and has written lyrics for her sister Josie. Josie has also done her own.

The problem with the collective elements is that there is still no real originality these days - the way they come together is part of that lacking. Vocals just make it easier to make a tune stand out.

Quality vocals will offer uniqueness and emotion to any song that a synthesizer can only dream of.

I certainly don't undermine the beauty of the human voice, but some instrumental songs for me are just "wordless"... no words or inflection of the voice can convey the emotion that such a song evokes. I won't debate which is better--instrumental or vocal--cause both forms can be astoundingly beautiful when done right (really it's just a matter of what speaks to the listener). But to say only vocals can truly convey real emotion (individual tastes regardless)... I'm sorry, but that's just completely wrong. And that's for any genre, not just trance.

The problem with the collective elements is that there is still no real originality these days - the way they come together is part of that lacking.

Maybe you're just listening to the wrong stuff. ;) Cause there are plenty--including myself--that feel completely the opposite.

Vocals just make it easier to make a tune stand out.

Well that's part of the problem... they're selling out to be popular like everyone else by putting a vocalist in every major release. And (IMO) it's not even good vocal trance... the singing is over-the-top, the emotion is put on or not even there, the lyrics are boring/recycled, and there's no real energy cause the music is drowned out from it's prominent vocals (where's the beauty of subtlety these days???)... it's anything but beautiful and emotional, it's just pop-standard material: uninspired, generic, and lacking any real depth or substance. And the scene is flooded with this stuff by artists trying to cash in... it's really diluting trance these days, watering down the quality to where it's hard to find more unique work.

Quality vocals will offer uniqueness and emotion to any song that a synthesizer can only dream of. The amount of real originality in synth these days is appalling.

the problem is in the past 5 years i can count on the fingers of one hand the tracks with quality vocals

also, i wouldn't be bothered by a couple of vocal tracks here and there in a set, the fact that the market is saturated with commercial, low quality vocal tracks is bothering me

Forgot to reply to this... as it's been stated, uploading these tracks as proper singles or "unmixed" would be illegal (as the only way you should obtain these songs unaltered and in full, is by purchasing them). Mixed sets are generally considered legal though, that's why they're allowed.

Your selection is good at some points (really glad to see Alex M.O.R.P.H. in there) but has me wondering at others.

I am rather disappointed at the fact that there is no Tydi in there. Particularly "You walk Away" should have been in the top 5. Also, I know that John O'Callaghan 's "Find Yourself" has been promoted a lot due to the Cosmic Gate remix but that track is definitely not one of John's best. The track that should have been in there is "Big Sky" (either the original or the Agneli and Nelson mix). Also, there is no Lange in there (did people get to listen to "Wanderlust") and no Dennis Shepperd (Black Sun, original mix is a gem, same goes for Freefalling). Come to think of it, shouldn't Claudia Cazacu be somewhere in there with her own "Freefalling"? I know that this is the people's voting, but people should start getting off the cliches and the stereotypically promoted tracks (see, "Man on the Run").

I guess popular radio broadcasting is what is killing our music. I wish people like Beat Service will be given their chance someday and we will get to hear more of tracks like "Feel our Heaven" or "Riddles in the Sand" (that's Ron Hagen and Pascal M for the record and in my humble opinion, is a top 5 for sure).

Anyhow, keep up the good work.

Broaden your horizons all ...

Just a comment; Big Sky was released in 2007 and voted #1 in the ASOT top 20 that year. People here mostly hated it. I find it funny that you comment about overplayed popular things and you mention that Big Sky is missing.

Anyway of course i agree that some tracks get too much attention and thus more votes, but in some cases don't you think a track gets so much attention (and signed to a big label) because people love it - and not the other way around *all the time* ?

In the end this is what people vote for. You can disagree call the average Trancefixer mainstream and brainless, or you can accept that your taste does not match with the majority ;)

I guess this is one of the cases where, staring the tree makes you miss the entire forest. My bad for having Big Sky in there, I sincerely thought it was a 2009 release. FYI I do not follow ASOT's nor ASOT's votings.

And FYI I did not call anyone brainless, nor do I intend to do that. Music tastes have nothing to do with intelligence and I believe I would be stupid if I ever believed that.

Glad to see some of you agreed on my point on the over promotion of certain tracks.

As for the rest, I take it we can agree on disagreeing. And you do make a point by stating that music tastes vary.

On another note, Tydi broke the top 100 DJ list. How do you dig that? Seems people appreciate his djing more than his producing?

that's exactly my problem with today's "vocal trance": you got the vocalist singing along and telling (it's usually a female) her sad sad story, and besides that you got the beat, some percussions, maybe some bass and that's it. and then you got the break of course, where you have some strings and pads instead of the beat (but still with the vocalist going).

take away the vocals and all you got is 6 minutes of beat, plus 2 minutes of instrumental break and nothing else. what the hell is trancy about that?

You do realize that "You Walk Away," Claudia's "Freefalling", and "Riddles In The Sand" were all on the last ASOT compilation, right? :p And according to you, THREE tracks featuring Audrey Gallagher should have been in the top 25... isn't that a little, well--much??? :smile1: I've got to admit, I think that'd be horrendous... she's an awful singer IMO, especially for trance. And having the same vocalist (or even artist) 3 or more times in the top 25 is kinda ridiculous anyway, regardless who it is... it's anything BUT "broadening horizons". More like bias really.

trance4ever i bet u voted in ASOT for broken tonight or waiting for tune of the year....i listen only to real trance.....Uplifting and i listen only GDJB!And if this was a rip of some old track it was not gonna be in the top 20 and at the 1st place here !RAMsterdam is a part of every trance DJ radio show or live set!!

don't bet, you will loose...

me ASOT? hell no...please don't insult my intelligence, the only reason i listen to ASOT nowadays is to know what tracks NEVER to play, my vote on the show has been " pretty bad" for the past few years, maybe a "decent" here and there...ASOT is nothing but a hype

what's the real trance you listen to, the one that Armin tells you that is trance? lol

of course is NO1 if people like you, that don't recognize that is a rip off, voted for it :flower:

are you kidding me? i hope you're not implying that GDJB is "real trance - uplifting" :tuktuk:

and have you even listened to anticipation? it's not "an old synth" that's being reused in ramsterdam, it's a ripoff! anticipation isn't that old that it qualifies as a classic that can be sampled. and those top20 are total BS, that's exactly why borken tonight and all the cheese is in there, for the same reason is ramsterdam in there - cause people are stupid! it's a nice track, but it's still a ripoff. :icon_mad:

Yet still you had to be a Trancefix member to vote, so apparantly this is what most Trancefixers think ;)

And if you take a good look there are just as much positive replies :)

I need the cue file, because the tracklist doesnt match with this mix. Yes all the tracks are in, I know. But if someone can send me the tracklist with timestamps I can create it by my one.

I guess he's referring to the ASOT top 20 as not being good, otherwise I'm very confused lol. :p

@Sirius2500bc: if I'm correct in assuming what you meant, you've got to take the numbers into account... less than 200 voted in the TranceFix poll, while thousands voted in the ASOT poll (and to garner numbers like that usually means mainstream appeal).

My opinion Tuvan is the best this year
2-Bobina - Invisible Touch (Ferry Corsten's Touch)
3- existone-obscure rays (original mix) i think a lot of people dont know this track , but its one of the best this year
4-ram - ramsterdam (jvd)
5-Dakota-Johnny The Fox (Barnes & Heatcliff Remix)

you know it amazes me that gaia-tuvan is so high on this list, the reason it amazes me is everywhere i've read people cant understand how this tune makes it into the top tracks of 2009 but funny enough people have to vote for these results, so unless this track has someway of voting for itself my conclusion is that there is a shitload of people that is crazy bout tuvan, its not my favourite track and i definately didnt vote for it but theres many that did. BTW ramsterdam was my no 1 too whoopie!!
