Amsterdam based producer Ram Boon has been on the watch list by the big jocks for some time now. With releases under his RAM alias on Armada , Fraction and Enhanced Recordings it's no wonder this guy's latest effort has been picked up by no one less than Mr. Simon Patterson for a release on his Night Vision label under Spinnin' Records. Following his well known sequence in track titles this one is 'surprisingly' called "RAMbition".
While I'm still thinking of Night Vision as a label focusing on releasing 140 BPM trancers, their latest releases have been quite diverse and some even far away from tech trance. This one is not the typical tech trancer as well, and could very well be labeled as 'standard' uplifting trance. With a hard kick and pounding bassline you will get passed through a very fine build up and get straight to a nice break down. I have to be honest and say I did not quite expect to hear something simple as the main riff Ram has chosen, but in combination with the whole package of bass lines, kick, pads, etc., it does leave you with a pretty strong 'uplifting' climax. Melodic wise definitely not as epic as his previous productions like "RAMazing" or "RAMsterdam", but in the end still quite catchy and definitely above average.
RAMbition does not stand out for me unfortunately, although that does not mean I did not like this. On the contrary! It's a pretty decent and solid uplifter which I'm pretty sure will be liked by many fans of this sub genre. With the huge amount of quality releases nowadays it's just pretty difficult to shine and come up with an unique piece of trance. I'm really curious what this fellow Dutch guy comes up with next time!
