Hi. Im Fermin from Argentina and Ive seen many threads asking 4 vdj guides or tips.
So, I decided to make complete guides of this program to use at home for pc djing.
Check the other guides with different features or possibilites of the software.
GUIDE nš 1:
How to CUE our mix and/or use an external mixer instead of the keyboard.
First Step: Go to VDJ, then config, then sound setup. (older version doesnt have this appearance - try to understand yours)
We are going to select the "External Mixer Output".
Then in Soundcard select "4.1 Card".
note: you just need 1 (ONE) soundcard w/ 3 normal in/outs (normally 1 out and 2 ins).
Step two: select this config in the "output channels" section.
this means: left deck (nš 1) goes out by the front out (normal out of the soundcard), and right deck (nš 2) goes out by the rear out (then ill show wich is this output).
Step 3: config our NORMAL & INTEGRATED soundcard.
note that im from argentina so the menus are in spanish. gonna translate it:
1st step: go to the sound volume config.
2nd step: go to advanced
3rd step: make sure that this box is marked. if not, mark it. (dunno if "mark" is the proper word for this action, sry for my english).
after this the "rear out" that i mentioned in the second step is going to be the line in. this means that you are changin a line IN to a second line OUT.
note: some OLD soundcards doesnt have this option, coz they re old. try downloading some drivers, if it still doesnt work, buy another cheap (i mean very cheap) soundcard and select "Two Cards" instead of "4.1 Card".
4th step: check your set up.
after doing the rest of the steps, our soundcard should be connected in this way:
1: Mic IN
2: Line Out (normally is not in the middle, is at the top, but the color is the same - green-)
3: originally, Line IN, but now is "Second" Line Out
So #2 goes to your ch 1 (in the mixer), so left side.
#3 goes to your ch 2 (also in the mixer), so right side (both in vdj and in the real mixer).
Then i recomend to send the master out of the mixer to the amps. if you dont have them, well connect the mixer again to the PC w/ the mic in (should be free to plug something), but i dont recommend this.
For Cueing you must connect your headphons to the mixer and keep the volumes of VDJ at the max (for both channels). then youll control each channel with your REAL faders and you will cue easily w/ the mixer's cue functions.
you can apply fx from VDJ and also your mixer.
You wont leave your mouse, i mean, you have to still use it to control the mp3 functions (play, cue, pitch, etc), but not for EQ and Fading (that really helps).
Well and thats all, gonna make more useful guides for you, homeDJ!!
Hope it helps.

Hey.
This is very helpful for me. I have had trouble trying to use 2 sound cards and have worked out the usb soundcard i bought is poor quality.
But how do i configure my laptop to do this on vista?
it goes to volume mixer and there is no advanced to change the settings?
thanks!!

Exactly what Mitchi said...anyone with any tips?Originally Posted by mitchi

what i have done is i purchased a second sound card and hooked it up to the mixer.
problem is, the sound is way too loud and i cant turn it down from the usb sound card. it was only a cheap one and had no driver. it used a windows driver.
with the sound 0 is silent and 1 - 100 is blasting loud, so when it hits the mixer its really fuzzy and something shorts out because it is too lound. any tips?

I had the same problem except the volume was too low and couldnt turn it up enough
