Hey everyone!
I would like to become a part of bedroom DJ army and to have it as my full time hobby. So I would like to aquire some equipment for it. Question is - what do I need? (please dont just say u need thing 1, 2 and 3. I dont know a thing about all that DJ equipment extravaganza) If you have time suggest some particular models and brands. (but please be reasonable - i know all about how good Pioneer cdj-2000 is, but lets face it - it cost a bit too much
) Would also really apreciate if you could suggest some good books on DJ'ing for begginer like "for Dummies" series. Anyway tell me anything you think is worth knowing. Trust me any comment will be like a shiny gold nugget for me and many other like me

Well, first you have to think are you goin' to play vinyl, CD or MP3's? If you play vinyl I don't have much to say cause I don't have experience from that at all. If you decide to play CD's my opinion is Pioneer is the best, but you don't have to buy those 2000's and other expensive equipment. I started with 2 x CDJ-400 & CDM-400 mixer and those have been fine for me. When you play MP3's you don't need so much equipment (just one controller for computer) and a software. But I think playin' MP3's is quite impractical and not suitable for me.

depends on how much money you are ready to spend on the equipment. If you're going to play CDs, pioneer is really the best, but which model you buy depends on what you can afford. But since you are totally new to DJ-ing, i'd recommend you to get some usb midi-controller, like Vestax VCI-100 (or VCI-300), and some software like Traktor or Virtual DJ. It must be enough for you to learn and practice some theoretical basics, gain some fundamental skills and then proceed to more advanced techniques of mixing, which may require more advanced equipment. I know many people who learned that way, and now they work in the night clubs. There are lots of manuals and instructions in internet about how to use Virtual DJ, Traktor, how to set up stuff. Personally i recommend to get to know the Virtual DJ first. There u can install many different skins, so it'll look and function pretty much like real equipment, plus VDJ's interface and setup is quite easy. Plus you don't need advanced sound card to use it (you need it for traktor)

denon gives quite some bang for your buck, look at the S1200 or s3700(if you want to pay 900 € per player the last one)

Many thanks for those answers - it seems im gonna go for that Vestax first after allDont think it would be wise to kick off with extra pro equipment which also costs bit too much if you buy it all together xD Also what is diffirence between Virtual DJ and Tractor - i've seen them both but they look so different for me

I would recommend Pioneer as well. They have some very decent CDJs for a good price. I have some old CDJ100s here with a DJM300 panel. Works fine and it is a real turntable set. I do think you will learn a lot more by using real TTs instead of a software based mixer. Beatmixing works a lot different.

Good luck with that Vestax! Traktor or Virtual DJ? I prefer Virtual DJ.

Oh - I see your point and it actually makes a lot of sence - maybe should go after 3 equipment set after all.
Another question - i heard about sound cards that you plug in all your equipment into. I have no idea what those things are. So the question is whether i need to bother to get one? Or is it all nice USB to my PC with pioneer gear? Also - is there anything else (beside cables) that i might need to consider?
Cheers guys![]()

why RCA cables? digital coax is better.. (actually also RCA officially but with better cable allowing for better bandwith, only one needed for stereo, 2 DA/AD conversions less in your signal flow)
