Hello all!
Just thought I'd share something me and my friend found out today that literally made my blood boil.
Shane Halcon just released an EP with two tracks, one of them called 'Solid Ground'. Shane is First State's manager and a good friend (I presume), but the thing they've done here is a disgrace to all the hard working producers out there. The track 'Solid Ground' is actually produced by First State, originally released as a free track to the fans by First State himself on his myspace page with the title 'First State pres One World - Seoul'.
Now I dont really mind getting help from other producers and friends for your own makings, loads of people are doing it and its great! But releasing a track that was freebie, re-naming it and claiming you produced it yourself is something else.
Heres the myspace page by First State (download link doesn't work anymore):

Producing these days...

It was released under his name but im not sure where he claimed that he produced it? Those are two very different things
Since they work together I don't find this very shocking. If it's a nice track then good it's still released. Reasons to rename it I don't understand much either but it doesnt bother me too much tbh.
Success is just like being pregnant.
Everybody congratulates you but nobody knows how many times you were fucked.

Its a great tune, and yeah I should probably edit the claimed part. But still posting "Thanks to Armin van Buuren for playing my track 'Solid Ground' on ASOT tonight =)" on facebook and then deleting all the comments I made regarding the fact that its not his tune is a bit.... fishy?

They say Britney Spears does not sing her own songs at all!
It's all about "selling ammounts = money"
I think we had a topic like this a month or so ago aswell which makes me pretty bored sometimes.
If ppl say that it's about the music then better enjoy it instead of being confused![]()

Maybe it's a label issue? Maybe First State couldn't release it under his own alias and so they fixed it like this?
Tbh it's nothing new or of these days as Astesti is writing. Common Tiesto is doing this since day 1? And the same goes for many many more.
Dash Berlin, Johan Gielen, Jochen Miller, and even the older dance classics aliasses were mostly co-produced.
It's "cool" to post so called "shocking" news like this but common it's nothing new and it happends all the time, so not shocking either.

Thank you for completely missing the point. Really shows the problems the scene has these days. No one cares about anything anymore. I see constant whine of everyone going mainstream and lacking originality, but when something like this comes up people just shrug it off.
Anyways I didn't come here to make a cool post (like you as a moderator seem to keep doing), but rather put this guy on the spot for doing something like this. And to show that this guy is a total zero.
But hey, it's your scene you want to be part of, lets fuck it up even more shall we?

I mainly care about good tracks being released, who releases them under which name is not something I care about a lot indeed.
That doesnt means that nobody cares about anything anymore like you posted.

if I may re-open this topic, I made a few videos...
Thiz place iz rockin'!
We hate similar and generic plucked melodies in trance music (Facebook page)
Similarity of plucked melodies in trance music (Youtube)
Trance ripoffs (Youtube)

Oh my god the Gareth Emery one... In fact, all of them.

The first one was pretty hilarious, good find.

The cloned track from video #1 exists in Ueberschall Trance ID construction kit, this is a common mixup, artists remake the track using the same exact samples and release it under different names.

yeah, I usualy hate such debates, since many don't really understand how it works, but anyway
"ripoffs" are abundant really, the mastery is to camouflage them not to be recognized
My favorite "ripoff" artist has to be Radion 6. Everything this guy does is "heavily inspired".

Soundalikes!

well...
I don't really see where the problem is. As said, ghost writting has been an integral part of music for, like, ever. You really don't know what those two had in private, some kind of arrangement, favour, debt, who knows, but i'm pretty sure it was consetional.
If he rereleased a free tune of his friend, it's mostly his loss, since YOU already got the tune for free before. Considering that, he must know what he is doing. Maybe he just need a release to write "producer" on his CV, so he can get booked more often for more money (to many people doing this lately tho). That's called a publicity stunt and can
work vonders. The track, income and audience are meaningless here, there is just need for "release to happen", so there is something to write about. It's also most likely explanation really...
