What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Hi guys! First of all, thank you for asking me to do this interview! This year it will be the third consecutive time I’m a part of the Luminosity line up. In my opinion it’s one of the best and nicest beach festivals in The Netherlands. Luminosity always has an amazing atmosphere and all attending clubbers clearly have an undeniable passion for music. It’s wicked to see people from all over Europe coming to The Netherlands for two days of Luminosity. For me as a performing DJ it’s fantastic to be able to rock one of the stages.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

Definitely the language , LOL! It’s far better than my English.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

It really depends on what I’m going to play the Friday before on June 22, when I have my own F.O.M.B. Night in the Escape Studio in Amsterdam – which I consider to be a sort of Luminosity pre-party for – with Raneem and Richard Sebastian. The F.O.M.B. Night is an excellent opportunity to give my new productions a test-run and when they pass the test, they’ll surely be dropped the day after during Luminosity. But rest assured I’ll keep some exclusive, never heard before productions to debut on Luminosity.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

That I don’t know yet, as the line-up contains so many good DJs making it hard to see them all perform. I guess I will just go with the flow on the festival and do some spontaneous area hopping.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Nothing special in particular, I’m always up for taking crazy pictures with fans as I’m sure most people will know!
Any other special news we should know about?

My F.O.M.B. radio show recently got added to the international and influential Radio FG which is a huge honor. Every first and third Thursday of the month, F.O.M.B. gets aired on Radio FG between 9 to 10 PM CET. As of May, they will air the show every week. Besides Radio FG, I will do a F.O.M.B. show on Dutch nationwide broadcaster Fresh FM every week starting in May. And if you’re in The Netherlands on the June 22, you can visit my F.O.M.B. What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Luminosity Beach Festival has always been a big and growing festival, where I always wanted to play. So, it’s nice to finally be a part of it.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

Besides Amsterdam being one of my favourite cities in the world, I love the way the people in The Netherlands are, very nice and relaxed.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

A lot of different things, I’ve taken the time to overlook my sets over the years, and I’m ready to try a few new things. Depending on the progress in the studio, there will probably be some brand new "Bjorn Akesson" tracks in the set. Not really sure what the set will be like, I guess we will have to find out.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

I’m really curious on what Johan Gielen’s set will be like. I’m also loving the new expansion of Sean Tyas, so I’m planning to see him play as well.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Depends what they are willing to do! No, but seriously, I always takes pictures with anyone who wants to, it’s always nice to chat with fans and audience.
Any other special news we should know about?

I’m doing my Ibiza debut this Summer at Privilege on the A State Of Trance nights.

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Besides the fact that the Beach Festival is one of the best trance orientated summer festivals worldwide it’s very special in a different way to me as well. The sun really changes my mood in a positive way and I can get incredibly inspired during summer time. Also, the ‘In Search Of Sunrise’ series, well known for the sunny musical atmosphere, have been one of the reasons I started creating music myself. So I guess I could say I’m feeling very comfortable with playing at this festival for the first time! It totally suits my style!
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

I like the internationally focused and open minded people. Holland is a very small country which means we have the urge to travel the world to meet different people and to see and experience different things and cultures.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Summer anthems, unexpected mashups and exclusive stuff!
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

Leon Bolier, Juventa, Kyau & Albert to name just a few. Those guys’ producing skills are incredible and I know they will rock the beach!
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Calm down and just kindly ask for a picture! But I love elephants and baby hippo’s so if a fan brings one of those I definitely won’t say no!
Any other special news we should know about?

My new track with the super talented Tania Zygar is out! It’s called "Death Of Me" and it’s already made its way into the Beatport top 10!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

I’m delighted to be playing! Luminosity has been one of the biggest festivals in Holland, so I’ve been looking forward to playing this gig for a while. This will also be my first time playing in Holland, which makes it even more special to me.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

I love the people and Amsterdam is a great city. I’ve been there many times and loved the laid back attitude, anything goes in Amsterdam!
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Lots of new tunes, plenty of driving music, trance and tech trance!
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

Really looking forward to seeing John 00 Fleming, great artist and great DJ and want to check out some underground stuff. Also, can’t wait to see my mates Patterson, Tyas, JOC and Kearney. Will be a funny day I’m sure!
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Err just ask! I never say no!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Ralph Kyau: We’re happy to spin there for the 3rd time. Luminosity Beach is a very special event with a great atmosphere.
Steven Albert: Yeah, it’s directly on the beach of the North Sea and you always meet so many fans and friends from all over Europe there.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

Ralph Kyau: Their language. Dutch sounds for me a bit like ‘fairytale German’. I really like to listen to it!
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Steven Albert: Playing a summer set, if you know what I mean…
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

Ralph Kyau: We already saw most of this year’s artists playing somewhere. It’s always nice to listen to, meet and talk to other musicians. Last time at Luminosity we got a bit drunken with Super8 & Tab and ended in the hotel bar after the event… Had a terrible hangover, but always great to see them.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Steven Albert: We always try to take time for pictures with fans, but please not while we play!!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Luminosity Beach Festival is one of my favourite more intimate parties during the summer in The Netherlands, I am always looking forward to play there!
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

I have been born and raised here, but I love the total madness the country is in during World and European Championship Football.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Banging, floor destroying stuff.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

I will check out as many as I can during the festival, because Luminosity always is kind of a gathering of DJs too – most DJs that are able to, will stay around to just enjoy the atmosphere and vibe.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Just ask – I will be around.

I just finished mixing a new edition of the Technoclub seties which will be out early June, besides my new track "Me" just got released on Beatport so go grab it and drop it like it’s hot!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

It’s nice to be involved in such a big event with so many other great DJs and I’m looking forward to playing outside on the beach. I’m also looking forward to visiting the Netherlands again. Lets just hope the weather is good!
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

Poffertjes – those little pancakes served with powdered sugar and butter. Lekker! And bicycles.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Since I’m on early in the day I’ll be playing a relatively chilled deep house/progressive set. There will be plenty of Anjunadeep tracks plus some of my own music of course! As a music lover I really enjoy playing a range of different tracks so this will be a nice change from the sort of stuff I play in peak time club sets.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

There are so many great DJs on the line-up. Hopefully I’ll be able to see some old favourites like Bart Claessen, Super8 & Tab, The Thrillseekers and many more!
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

Just ask nicely.
Any other special news we should know about?

I’ve got plenty of new music on the way. My next single is "Progress", which includes a remix from Nitrous Oxide. It’s also featured on the forthcoming ‘Anjunabeats Worldwide 04′ compilation. After that is my next release on Anjunadeep, which is called "Under The Wire". That’s got a remix from another Anjunabeats legend but I can’t announce who it is yet!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

It’s now become a staple of my yearly schedule, been there I think for the last 3, so this will be my 4th, and I love it. It’s among the MOST personal events that take place year-round, anywhere.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

My close friendships I have developed over there since the very first visit. The people I have had the fortune of meeting over the years are genuine and amazing, and it’s just terrific to see them each visit over to The Netherlands.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Lots of new material to test out, as the studio workload has been teetering on "psychotic" lately. So, listen for tunes you haven’t heard!
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

All of them, I play and party with most of them quite often so we all have such a good time when THIS MANY of us get together in one place. Great people.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

If you stand on one foot, put your right index finger in your nose, your left thumb in your ear, and quack like a duck, I am yours for the taking.
Any other special news we should know about?

Just keep watching for new tracks because the avalanche of new material has started its release phase. I’m covering a lot of new ground, and also integrating my traditional melodic sound into it all, so it’s a fun hybrid for me right now. Actually, "fun" isn’t the right word: In the studio lately, I’m having the time of my life.

It means summer is well and truly here! You can’t beat playing in the sun to a beach full of people. Love it. Loved it last year and will love it every year!
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

The red light district.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

The usual psy edged trance with a load of oomph! Let’s go!
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

I don’t get a chance to hear many people these days, so I guess I am more looking forward to catching up with a few friends that I seldom get to see.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

I’ll leave that to the fan.

Loads of new tracks on the go. Changed my sound quite a bit. Got a new vibe for vocal stuff and new hard edged vibe for psy and trance stuff. Taken me a while to hone in on what I want, but now I’ve got those two strings tightened. I am ready to release lots again. Ready to rock!

What does playing at the 5th edition of Luminosity Beach Festival mean to you?

Well, my last beach party with Luminosity in 2007 was amazing, one of my favourite ever – the Dutch beach parties always seem to go off with a huge bang! Can’t wait. I have a lot of Dutch fans who are extremely passionate about the music I produce and play, I’ve actually always said that The Netherlands is one place I would be happy to live if I were to leave the UK.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

The tolerance and geniality of the Dutch is reknowned, you guys know how to live and let live. Of course there is the rise of the far right parties over there, but when you have such a generally positive population there is bound to be an equally passionate opposite view – that’s why we have democracy. We may not agree with those people’s views, but freedom of speech is more important. Better to let an ignorant person speak then defeat their argument with words than attempt to silence them.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

I’m pushing the sound of ‘Pure’ trance, anyone who follows what I do wil; know all about my passion for the true spirit of what makes trance what it is. No dubstep or electro stunts or gimmicks, just 100% undiluted emotion and driving trance music.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

Orkidea is the one for me! He is a legend, one of the world’s best DJs in every sense of the word. He doesn’t leap about or throw cakes into the crowd or similar bullshit, he understands the crowd and knows how to make them move. Some DJs are clowns, but Orkidea is a ringmaster.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

They only need to ask at the end of my set.

This festival is one of our favourites because of its authentic and has a relaxing vibe. We are happy to be back and really looking forward to it.
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

It has to be the crowd. We haven’t played any bad parties there. People know their music and they love it.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

There’s original vibe in this festival so we try to build our set to fit to it. We have also been busy in the studio so expect to hear lots of new Super8 & Tab tracks too.
Which fellow DJs you are keen to hear at the festival?

We are playing Saturday so definitely want to hear Andy Moor and KvA. If we can catch Oliver Smith too that would excellent. It would have been nice to hear our fellow countryman Orkidea too, but unfortunately he’s up on Sunday.
What should a really excited fan do to get a picture with you?

I know you would like to hear something clever here, but actually we are so honoured if someone wants to take a picture with us. Just ask and if we are not in super hurry there’s no problem. If you have Super8 & Tab t-shirt, that’s always a bonus!
Any other special news we should know about?

Follow up to "Awakenings" is ready and release date is set for early May on Anjunabeats. We are really excited of this release! During the same time we see the Super8 & Tab Remix of Tritonal feat. Soto "Piercing Quiet" and ‘Anjunabeats present Super8 & Tab Vol. 1′ compilation.

Oh, I’ve heard so many great things about this party that I just had to get on the line-up. Super excited for it!
Tell us one thing about The Netherlands that you really love?

Just one? That it has a condom museum! Seriously, no other country I’ve ever been to has one of these. Not that I particularly like them, it’s just… well, they don’t take themselves too seriously. Love that.
What can we expect from your set at the Luminosity Beach Festival?

Expect to hear a few classics – I’m playing a classics set!

Assuming I don’t get kidnapped by an over excited fan, I’d love to see Basil O’Glue and Ummet Ozcan’s sets.

My big news right now is my upcoming album, ‘ESC’, which will be landing this summer. I’m wrapping up the last few tracks now.
