My Xone 42 is second hand but works like its just climbed out the box i think its 3-4 years old, the VCF filter sounds great, all the knobs and faders feel great, smooth and the EQ is tight. The sound is of the highest quality i have heard from a DJ mixer. I have used Behringer mixers which were sh**, pioneer DJM 6-800's which the only thing they had going for them over the Allan for me was the built in effects but its not that much of a downer because you can easily use an Pioneer EFX unit with this mixer and combine it with the VCF filter as well which is a neat feature.
For headphones i use Sony MDR-V500's which have a very good sound, they can take a fair amount of damage and still retain their sound quality, mine have had one of the ear cups selotaped to keep it together but they still dont need replaced. Cant really tell you much about headphones only really used the Sony's i am myself thinking about upgrading maybe's to a pair of those Technics ones that i see a lot of DJ's use.
For speakers i only have beginner Kam DJ Speaker's, need a pair of Mackies tho but there £800 each and i need pair of newer CDJ's first i think.
The CDJ 800's and anything onwards would be a great choice i'd say av used the 2000's and they just seem a bit fragile wouldn't say no to a pair tho there excellent lots of great features on them, but the 800's do the job like they always have, so do the 1000's av used them all quite extensively at college.
    i am looking at the A&H xone 42 mixer (4 channel) http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...ne42&SubCatId=
    and the pioneer 900nexus http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...s/DJM-900nexus
which one is better? i don't think i would like to shell out $2k for a mixer like that. why is this pioneer mixer so expensive

I'm not a "pioneer fanboy", I'm sure other products are great too, but you can't type all that just like that...

Saying certain players deliver better sound etc. is just irrelevant anyway. Even if it would be noticeable in a club which I doubt... its definitely not noticeable for this guy at home.

Preferring a product over another is fine, but calling it "shit" is just wrong
I'm neither, just made an educated decision on 2 expensive dj players, and it appeared the pioneer one lost because of lack of features (cdj1000), cheap feeling material and the price they ask for that If i'd drop myself to your level I'd say 'if you think cdj1000 feels like high quality something is wrong with your hands.' . But I'm not going to do that.. Instead I ask: have you ever felt a turntable or an s3700? or the soft plastic buttons? the latter is a matter of taste but I'm not sure whether you still stand behind your point if you feel an s3700.

I've been playing on big sound systems, put the ready set cdj1000 as spare and for fun played the same track as on my s3700. But fortunately you see them less and less and being replaced by cdj2000, which has a proper dac/adc+dsp . same goes for djm800>djm900 .

Your welcome. Im not sure whether that's a problem, as the cups can be set to anything between very small and very big heads. But they do press quite a bit and you may or may not like that. What did you choose in the end?

They are not the cheapest but you certainly get what you're paying for; sturdy, modular, quality sound and high isolating headphones.

Yep. of the 1600 you pay for a cdj2000, 1000 € is for the pioneer label. They make their stuff overly expensive for consumers to carry the costs of the marketing of big dj's (every winner of djm top 100 free hdj2000, free dj set for biggest clubs, promo tours etc.)

Like i said, I used to think like that, but then I started to think rationally and compare the products to other brands. Those big name dj's don't know what else to play with since pioneers marketing budget is way bigger than anyone elses, which allows them to give free stuff to the biggies. Also they paid dj's like AvB & laidback luke, roger sanchez at launch to speak good about cdj2000.

If they have common sense they act interested seeing something else than usual, if they're arrogant they feel offended that their gear is not good enough or on the other side of the medal think its rubbish. usually the first applies.

And actually the fun thing is: you don't have to bring your own equipment!

I've played quite a few times on cdj2k and its very easy if, even when you are used to s3700 and use harddisks like me. Another nice thing is they will work without messing with software like rekordbox.

I remember one time where they said that they had cdj1000+djm500 .. so I brought my flightcase with s3700+x1700.. but it appeared there was 2 cdj2000 (they just bought them new in the box ) and I spared myself the effort to install +deinstall my s3700, and just put my x1700 in between, connected cdj2000 via digital in. works like a charm
