I would like this to be discussed here in the open.
I personally feel like we are here because we want to discuss music and related stuff.
What happens now in the Upcoming Releases section is that some users are only here to create threads (as soon as possible) with only a Youtube video in that thread, without any motivation or information.
Basically 95% of all threads in the Upcoming Releases section are like this, and there are dozens of new topics created every day. Specially after ASOT when pretty much every new track gets its own topic with a rip from the show.
Typically, those people who do this, are not users who contribute (much) besides creating those topics. It seems like they are only here to make threads about all releases and then move on to the next site.
For me those topics, specially the ones about unknown artists, are there without any purpose. We are not (this is my personal vision) a listing-company where all releases need to be posted.
We are a community-website where we want to discuss certain tracks.
It seems it would be more pleasant if people only would create a topic, when there is something on their mind. When they like something, find it interesting, find it shocking, and want to share it.
Some people have been complaining about the UR section being 'overwhelming', and this is the result of some users having the desire to simply 'be the one who posts'. Perhaps this attitude is not beneficial for a community website. Does it really matter who is the one who created a topic? Do we really need all releases out there, to have a topic on the forum?
So the main question is, and I've added a poll too:
Does the Upcoming Releases section work nicely, or should there be some sort of change?
When answering, keep topics like these in mind, this is what I meant:

Why is this posted? That's what I wonder. If you wonder too, vote accordingly. If you want to keep these sort of threads, and are not annoyed, then vote option 3.
Possible changes could be:
- Not allowing threads without any motivation (so not youtube video only)
- A limit of amount of threads per user per week (so they have to choose)
- Make your own suggestions in this thread.

I can't see the poll. I do agree something needs to chage though. There are some of us who only post upcoming releases we like or are excited about, but yes, there are too many people who seem to post new 'releases' for the sake of it. And as you say, the instant new posts with a rip from ASOT or the likes are annoying.

I agree with B_D. Right now it is quantity above quality. It's almost like a contest where people just start posting like crazy after ASOT, GDJB and so on. It's very annoying to "enter" a thread where only a video is posted without any sort of information just because it got played by Armin.

I think the voting options are some what aiming me to some kind of direction Voci :P
I think it's wrong to limit and mod that section more then happends already. With the discussions about (sub)genre(s). You can't limit people to post a x nr of threads and you can't require a certain quality either as everyone his/her taste are different.
What I would like though is some kind of TF favorites/recommendations. Many people posted that before as well. This as many don't have the time to listen to all out there so it's better if releases would be pre selected a little bit.

Anyway, I still believe you should edit your poll options. The only "no" option forces you in a direction which doesnt has the be THE option when voting yes.
Yes/No/maybe would do the job.

Yes, you better clear up this mess and you might get me back in this forum again. No offence but at the moment UR is SHITE.

We just need to get rid of the spammers, as the most such threads are made by couple of users here.

Funny how every time someone says "no offence" before a statement that it's followed by usually very offensive and non-constructive feedback. Maybe elaborate what you want to see different instead. Just a thought.
As for the topic here, I agree with a lot of what Voci (and others say). I would love to see more discussion for one from the posters of the thread. It does seem the UR has turned into a marketing tool opposed to a forum for creative thought. As for how to solve the problem, well limiting thread creation would just slow it down. Having the mods clear up posts where no discussion is presented would work. It just requires more time from moderators.
I do like Puppetmaster's idea of having a TF favourites or maybe an up/down voting system to filter the "gem" songs.

Well what about a subforum or section called "Trancefix Favorites" or whatever (Puppet's proposal)
Perhaps below the Trancefix TOP 25 forum.,
and inside,
each week we will create a topic and a team of mods (to be decided who is going to be on this)
post their favorite track of the week. The mods then can also give a little reason/to why they like it.

Instead of "favourites", could we not have a sub-forum which has the top 10 voted-up tracks each month? Or something like that.
And I'm guilty of this, as a lot of us are, but could we really inforce the rule where we have to have more than just a release date or just a sample on its own? When I, or any of us look at a new release, we want to know what it sounds like and when we can get it, not one or other.

Another idea is:
To change the forum into "Hot Or Not", where people can discuss music they want to discuss.
Perhaps there could be another forum (or subforum) called "Previews of new singles", where people who desire to, can still do their quick slamming-of-empty-video-topics.
Hot Or Not then functions as a discussion board, where topics MUST contain "discussion" (so not just an empty topic with a video) the other one as a promo/preview board. Perhaps we should have both. For each their own, or something.
@BD: That requires a voting system. Besides, I'm affraid the known tracks will come up anyway. So you might as well look at the topics with most replies, they are either very good or bad too, so it's not like those are hard to find.
