Hi everyone,
here is a vocal track demo I have recently written and produced. I think it will probably be too pop-ish for many on this forum, but since the purpose of this part of the forum is to get feedback, I hope to use what I learn from you to apply to my next track (especially those of you who like or produce vocal tracks yourselves).
I would also be interested to hear any vocal tracks you have recorded.
I recorded the vocals on an Akai DPS24 digital recorder with an SE 220 (I think) mic. and acoustic guitar backing, then moved the vocals to Logic 9 and used Logic synths, Omnisphere and Stylus RMX.
I am pleased with the song itself and the singing, but think my production/mixing has a long way to go.
Any advice/comments/criticism greatly appreciated.
Best Regards
Chris

It's really commercial, indeed. Reminds me of Inna-stuff.
It sounds a bit to thin, but I really like the harmonies and vocal in the chorus. Though, vocal needs some work (EQ, reverb) among other things![]()

I'm currently studying for a Bachelor's degree in musical production / engineering. Recording vocals and real instruments weekly by using softwares such as Logic 9 and Pro Tools.
Got an A on my last exam, and the track was sent as a demo to some Eurovision-team in Norway (!)
In other words, yes - I both produce and write music![]()

That's great news about your track. It sound like you have the technical skills as well as the songwriting skills you need-most are lucky to have one of those!
Do you put your tracks up on Soundcloud or something, or do you prefer not to do that in order to protect them?
Something I am tring to understand and learn about more is making space in the frequency spectrum for sounds when mixing, and also to spend more time making each sound actually sound better in the beginning. I know that I tend to think any electronic sound should already be fine, so I just click through a few kick drums/snares/basses etc and pick one that sounds about right. I think it's finally dawning on me that that isn't good enough!
Best regards

Well, I'm not really fond of uploading every track I make on my soundcloud profile, as they're all in between alternative rock and cheesy dance music.
My soundcloud mostly consists of remixes and mashups. Most of my originals are kept private till signed and released. Though, there's some exceptions. This one, in example - http://bit.ly/LrcOGd
And the whole art of eq and frequencies is something you'll learn as you progress. I've been producing for 6 years or so, and I still learn new techniques occasionally.
If you'd like the project file for the track I posted, feel free to give me a shout! You might learn something by just having a look (note: you need synths like sylenth1, nexus and omnisphere) I was tutoring my class in how to basic dance music some weeks back, and at least they learned a lot. Give me a PM if you're interested, and I'll give you the project file![]()

Daniel, if it's not too much work: please buy Cubase, rebuild the track in there and give me thát project file.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks Daniel,
I 'm using Logic at the moment, and I don't have those synths except Omnisphere which is great but I find it takes ages to find sounds because there are so many!
Actually, on another point, I'm trying to teach myself to program my own sounds on the Novation supernova. They go quite cheaply nowadays but are great for the number of controller knobs they have. I'm finding it helps me understand how sounds are created.
However, the synth and Nexus seem to be getting good reviews at the moment. Do you recommend them?
Your track sounded great, any news on the Eurovision one?
Best regards
Chris

The idea behind the track is good!
Only the mix of the track is not sounding very good here.
The vocals are nice, only i had the idea that some things she sings are a bit false.(0.47-0.51)
And if you ask me is your track sounding very dry, maybe use some more fx in your track.
Ps.a good vst that you should have fore sure is Sylenth1![]()

Hi Nico,
Thanks for the comments, and you are correct there is a mistake in the words at that point. It should say "you can ask her but she'll look you in the eye, and YOU won't ever ask again" :-)
Best regards
