Ok I started a bit of a feud on another site cause i wrote that beatmatching using software to sync the music is cheating.
I dont know but isnt that one of the main skills for dj's? At least thats what ive always believed. I can understand if you wanna add samples and buy time with syncing the songs but i guess it all depends on what your doing?
y go see armin or tiesto if they arent mixing on there own? they can just play a pre mixed cd and join the crowd on the dance floor.
I need your opinion.

definately by ear
but beatmatching and smooth mixing aren't the same thing at all

I trust my ears the most. Relying to heavly on a beatmatching program is like Luke trusting the X-Wing's targeting computer instead of his own "Force."![]()

never ever trust your eyes, always trust your ears. Computers can be tricked by percussion skips and vocal stabs that may be in triplets or switch to compound time.
Besides if you are using a computer to do the job for you it is drawing away from the skill of dj'ing.

Ears ears ears!! Autosync IS cheating and also is really obvious to the ear, so is just letting ableton do everything while you add fx. lol.
It was hard enough for me to ditch vinyl , now I use my pc I still use my ears, If i see or hear anyone using autosync (Which does not always work anyway) I really have no respect for them as DJs, I know theres the whole set to plan and key but still mixing gives you the rush, you may as well be an eq technician if not mixing by ear!!

I agree on that...your ear is the most powerful when mixing....and it does take away from the "skill" DJ's have to mix...Originally Posted by Dunky-007

always prefered the good old manual way of using your ears to do the mixing - plus i believe it looks a whole lot better cueing tracks up etc rather than staring at the screen of a laptop

thx guys for a minute there i thought i was the crazy one!!!!LOL!! i use a computer (traktor 2.6) cause every year i was buying the latest denon dual cd player!!! ive gone through 3 and i cant afford to do that anymore!!! ive never used decks cause i dont got much on records mostly cd's and mp3's, but id lov to some day.
with traktor 2.6 u can set it up just like a dual cd player, with no auto sync and can turn off the bpm counter. with traktor 3 there are sync bars that cannot b removed so u can always see if your a bit off which i hate cause to me the whole point of dj'ing is mixing by ear!!!![]()

ears simple as that, totally against pc/laptop djing etc.

Well actually, since ableton is far from flawless at beatmatching, you have to beatmatch by ear in my opinion, if you want to do it right.

Hello darkness my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again
Don't use an electronic-calculator when you have an abacus!
Stop Re-encoding!!!

I beatmatch by ear when I was a dj

i dont have any syncs or anyhting..but as a dj, i believe ur supposed to use ur ears... i mean....cmon, i saw a dj called new brand now too long ago... no headphones at all just a laptop with 4 mk3's sitting in front of him, whata waste
