TranceFix Review: Jam & Spoon-Odyssey To Anyoona [The Remixes] [Coldharbour Recordings]

There are specific tracks within the dance music scene that have achieved legendary status and have become “go to” tracks amongst producers and DJ’s alike. One of those tracks is the well known “Odyssey To Anyoona” by 90’s icon dance music producer duo “Jam & Spoon“. These guys were artists in the full sense of the word, way ahead of their time idea-wise and thus shaping the way of things to come for modern day dance music. Their originality and straight forward ideas as well as thinking outside the box can easily be viewed in their body of work. Tracks like “Right In The Night“, “Follow Me“, “Stella” and of course their innovative remix of “Age Of Love-Age Of Love” are all examples of this. Their success was evident and they continued to churn out tracks with ease. Unfortunately due to the passing of Markus Loffel (“Mark Spoon“) in 2006 the duo was torn apart. Rolf Elmer (“Jam El Mar“) continued to create music he loved under his own brand and has continued to do so to this day, always passionate about bringing pure quality music to the scene he loves. The time had come to pay tribute to “Odyssey To Anyoona” and who better to do that then some of today’s straight forward thinking artists.

A: Markus Schulz has always had the utmost respect for the duo and so it was only natural that he would wish to create his rendition of the classic in his own unique way and approach. The “Markus Schulz vs. Jam El Mar Remix” is a fusion of two worlds. The trained listener can easily pick out the dark, mystifying and anthemic nature he brings to the track alongside the epic, mysterious and mystical sound of “Jam El Mar“. The end result is a win-win situation for us as our ears and soul are equally blessed with harmonic, dark and mesmerizing vibes that bring a feeling of inner peace deep inside us all.

B: Artists “Jamie Stevens” and “Uone” assume remix duties themselves, incorporating their own sound into the beloved track. Paying homage to the original while laying out laid back vibes of progressive bliss which grab hold of the listener, warming the body much like the rays of sun on a day of Spring. A clever direction that one may not have expected, bringing a different twist to the track easily making the duo stand out with the creativity that defines them.

Two different sides that shall satisfy all musical tastes, as they all have payed their fair amount of tribute to the track thus gaining a special place in our hearts.
