I just want to say, what you have done with your YT page is pretty remarkable. 14 million views on a video is something that more or less just Armin and Above&Beyond have accomplished in this scene. And even the 28k subscribers is more than what someone like Solarstone has. For reference I have less than 200 subscribers on my YT channel. So you're basically more popular than 99% of trance producers. I think your promotional skills are excellent, remixing the right tracks and even just a thread like this that you can bump and keep yourself relevant here. I also think your sound is something that a lot of people want to hear, but isn't really available much elsewhere. Dynamic and less processed that sounds like something done 15-20 years ago. Plus that ambient / chill out trance is something that producers used to do a lot back in the day, but nobody else really has been doing it in the past 15 years or so.

The smart 'spamming' only helps that much. I mean, the forum isn't that big an audience. I can't imagine that giving millions of plays. Sure, a few.

I think it's mainly Magdalayna's ambient/chill style which simply isn't seen much in the trance scene. Combined with a quite good production quality!

@Magdalayna, you wrote somewhere you have Yamaha monitors. Which ones do you have? I purchased the HS8's not too long ago.

Theyre HS07's mate - really decent. You can hear more details in your productions and make everything tighter. i laughed at 'smart spamming' haha - i genuinely think someone might find a thread like this very interesting - i dont really see many other producers talk about what theyve done, its just promote the next track, talk about some DJ support - and then onto the next promotion, and on and on. Im really not that serious about it..i just make the music i love - in fact most of the music & DJ mixes i listen to are my own.

Really kind words mate - yes the Chilled Trance thing is a very niche sound, and im really surprised more producers havnt done chilled remixes of classics like i have done. But it does still appeal to millions as it still has the emotion & uplifting qualities of normal Uplifting Trance. If you speeded my chilled stuff up and put a kick and percs on,it would be pretty much uplifting Trance - so i wouldnt call it true ambient music.

And i dont know what happened to my 'Now We Are Free' remix - i uploaded in Summer 2018 and it didnt pick up many views - then in November that year something happened to make it explode - maybe it got onto Youtube main page. But since then its took a like of its own - i dont think its ever had less than 10K plays a DAY - which is just crazy.

Another crazy stat is that only 5% of my listeners are subscribers....so really i should have a lot more subs hehe!

Do you have subwoofer with them?

I sometimes doubt about getting one. On soft volume its hard to work the subbass area. With a quite loud volume there definitely is a lot of bass in them. So then the subs do come through.

I usually check with headphones and compare with ‘real’ tracks. But its still difficult. Sometimes I wonder if a sub would help me.

What do you think about that?

No i ve never thought of a subwoofer with them - i can normally tell the bass levels from monitor and headphones, but im no hardcore Trance producer obviously,so maybe they might need one more. I do the 'car' test aswell haha.

Rumor has it that Youtube occasionally supports tracks on its own. At least once per month a previously-unknown track goes viral and amasses millions of views. It has happened to trip hop tracks like this one. Most people get there purely by the Youtube algorithm.
I imagine that is what happened with your Now We Are Free remix.
On Magdelayna vs. other trance producers: I think that just goes to show how universal "chilled" really is. Remove the 4x4 kick and high hats, slow down, and you can reach way more people.

I think another factor is thats its Hans Zimmer - some of his music on YT has hundreds of millions of views - so if you do a decent remake of one of his pieces,i think youll do well! But still,i think on that November day it get onto the front page of YT or something. Its nearly caught up with 'Bicep - Glue' in terms of plays, which was uploaded the year before - which is incredible,as that was a really popular song..being on the BMW advert aswell.

Yeah, if it suddenly appeared in the recommended list of people who listen to the Hans Zimmer originals... that would boost the number of views, as well.

Congrats on all of your success! I think it stems from being really consistent and loving what you do. It's been really interesting reading this thread, as I'm just planning to start out releasing my music.

I was thinking about this the other day. Where did all the chill and ambient Trance go? I have so many playlists with excellent chill trance tracks, but it seems like the genre just disappeared. Magdalayna are you aware of other chill producers doing Trance?

Im not sure it was ever that popular anyway? You had the early 2000's stuff that Micheal Woods produced and also the Chilled Euphoria CDs...but since then its been a very niche genre...there is still quite a few people making it but its very lowkey, mainly on indie labels. Ive always been surprised that not many other producers make chilled versions of Trance classics like i do...

I think Ralphie B with his Icarus and other tracks of that time was really one of the rare ones who made chill mixes of their tracks. Armin does one like every 5 years or more, and I don't really know about the rest. Slam Duck is the other one I know who does this from time to time.

When was the last time Sunlounger/Roger Shah made a good one? He was a master of that.

And everything is going towards the synthwave-trance fusion anyways so the popularity of chillout trance is declining. I mean, even Roger Shah is releasing a synthwave-trance album now.

Yeah good point with Shah...the two Sunlounger albums were great, captured a true Balearic feel.

Well a bit of a negative blog here, but some of you may find it interesting..

'The Harsh Truth Of A Producer'

So i have two tracks that have been released for nearly 10 years on quite a well known label (who i wont name)...i just received an annual royalty statement saying id made 18 euros in that time, but their 'threshold' is 100 euros,so i will probably never see a penny.

The two tracks are also on my Youtube channel, and collected probably around quarter of a million plays between them - but the label has chosen to monetize the ad revenue themselves and take all the proceeds. Now,you can opt to 'share revenue' with an artist, but they hve chosen not to do this. And i know on Youtube these tracks will have them a few hundred pounds.

So for two productions i have created,in the space of 10 years released on a label,i have not received a penny...whereas themselves will have made quite a bit from the releases - just one example of the struggles and unfairness artists and producers face!
