Legend! That 98-02 era mustve been a magical time.

Although at the same time it kind of despairs me that Laurent should have a lot more followers and plays of his music in this day & age. His channel has been there since 2007 but only got 2K subs so not sure what has happened to this side. Espeically when you compare to what has happened to the likes of Armin & Ferry, who were on an even keel back in the late 90's. I do speak to him occasionally and give him tips on how to grow his YT audience hehe, because it should be in the millions imo. Hes made some real bonafide classics of the Trance genre.

Greatest ever producer in trance along with Oliver Lieb? I would say Lieb just edges it.

I'd say Airwave does. I think he was more successful, more diverse and had a larger body of work. Plus, his tracks are a lot more memorable as well.

In my opinion, Oliver Lieb's best tracks are better than Airwave's best tracks, but Airwave has more consistent work and remained a "true" trance producer for far longer.

I'd like to see the comparison of what you think their best are.

I'd disagree on all of those points. Oliver Lieb has been producing trance since the early 90s and has released a larger body of work on more labels, especially some legendary ones from early to late 90s.
I'd say his productions are more diverse too because he is superb at producing straight up techno as well as tech trance, euphoric trance, progressive trance, prog house, chilled trance, pretty much anything. I know Airwave is diverse too and there's not much between them but I think Lieb's technically better. Compare most of their stuff from the 90s and I'd say his work was definitely more spacious, crisp and clear sounding compared to Airwave.
And finally I'd say Lieb's most memorable productions and remixes like Hearts and Netherworld are generally regarded in the trance world as bigger classics. In the last 10 years though Airwave has produced more and better work.

I can't believe you'd argue my point about diversity. What hasn't Airwave done? Probably psy or goa but that's it.

Anyways, as they say, agree to disagree. It's great to have two giants of the genre.

He hasn't done many techno, tribal, techy type tracks. That's what sways it for me. But, yeah, love em both.

Love both of them, but seriously their styles differ so much, that I can't even compare.
Then we also have Mike Push, who has a huge discography under countless aliases.
I don't think anyone of them is better than another, they are the Trinity.
Each one special in their own way.

I'd like to see the comparison of what you think their best are.
So for Lieb I had in mind Netherworld, Hearts, Amorph, Subraumstimulation, and the Utah Saints Lost Vagueness remix, and for Airwave something like Industry, Souvenir de Chine, When Things Go Wrong (Airwave remix), and Another Dimension.
I've been listening to Lieb's 1995 album Rendezvous in Outer Space, and I think his sound design is mind-blowing. The tracks are relatively simple compared to something like Another Dimension, but they're more spontaneous, creative, and less structured. Lieb's productions also have a certain drive, a "punch" that is absent from many of Airwave's works (which lean more toward emotional soundscapes). I think that's where Oliver Lieb has the upper hand against Airwave.
These producers never really made similar styles of trance, though, so comparing them is almost like comparing apples to oranges.

Airwave has released so much work over the last 10 years, most of which I hadn't heard. The last couple of days though I've been going through it steadily and.... wow I'm mega impressed with his modern sound.
He's really matured as a producer and makes highly complex and intelligent music that still retains its emotional impact.
Examples - Laia's Daydream, Chiricauha, the most awesome remix of Audio Noir - One More Night, Today is Made Of Yesterdays, Tigris and Euphrates.... I could go on and on.

Big props to the man, I wish him every success and he deserves it. A lot of producers lose their way or sell out but he's stuck to his sound, developed it and really grown into the best there is in the trance scene. 🙌

I agree. He really has hustled during the past decade and made some of the best trance productions in that whole time. Parallel Lines is still unmatched imo.

Lieb's sound was more raw, and it was better than, say, Lauren't Industry - because they do have something in common. But comparing Lieb's Subraumstimulation to Airwave's Venus Of My Dreams is really impossible.

So maybe then it comes to pure preference. I respect both of them, but I've been discovering mostly Airwave's stuff during these past few years, and I fell in love with his work, so I choose him.

I still haven't heard Parallel Lines, and his newer stuff is still good, but I'm just a sucker for his older stuff. Still, he made some belters in the last decade that I still love to listen to. Stuff like Reus Calling and Laia's Daydream are some of the best from his recent stuff.

You've probably heard some of the trance tracks from Parallel Lines, but if you've never checked it out you're missing out on Airwave's non-trance work:

Slipping (ft. Tiff Lacey) - like a combination of trance and breaks, very Hybrd-like

Goodevil

The Long Road to Freedom - amazing breaks track with a unusual time signature (3/4? 7/8? I just know it's not 4/4, haha)

Heck, even Chase Childhood Monsters was his attempt at dubstep!

What I like most about them is that you can hear Airwave experimenting with different sounds and styles.

Thanks! I've only just found Parallel (and Dark/Bright) Lines on Deezer - it was under Various Artists, for some stupid reason, so it was a bit tricky to find. I'll definitely listen to the album - don't want to spoil it by listening to other tracks first. :D

Nice to see this Vlog from Laurent, he's got a lot of wisdom and a humble attitude to match. Will be watching more of these. GOAT for me.
