Since a lot of folks here are dj's and producers, I figure it'd be cool to showcase your setup and see others' as well! Here's my humble setup:

Setup.jpg

Gearlist:

Asus Vivomini VC66 (Intel i7, 16gb of ram)
FL Studio 12
PreSonus Eris 4.5 Monitors
Sony MDR-7506 Headphones
Nektar Impact GX49 Midi Keyboard

Really nothing to drool over, but it gets the job done!

Curious, why haven't you switched to 20 (I believe 20.8 is out now)? I remember 20 was great when it came out, lots of new features, as well as in newer releases. I've lost track since because I lost interest, but still, you'd surely benefit from a better work flow.

Nice keyboard as well, how's it serving you? Wanted to get it at some point as well, I think that exact model but I'm not sure.

Plus, a good configuration on there as well, as well as the PS4 on the side and the overall look of the setup. Everything you need, basically, the rest is just a bonus.

I kept it since I wanted to make music immediately and didn't want to bother with learning the new features. Kind of silly of me, really, lol, I got too excited to get back into the swing of things. But I'll definitely check it out, I'm sure it's worth learning.

The keyboard works well for me, even thought it's super basic. I just use it to play the VST's...it'd be nicer to be able to automate more with it, but there's only one knob.

I set up the PS4 so I just switch inputs on the monitor while I can still use the computer, haha. Pretty convenient. This entire setup is pretty much my man-cave consolidated to a small section of our apartment

There's nothing to learn, really. It wasn't a complete overhaul, just some nice additions that improve your workflow but wouldn't bother you if you didn't like them. Small things that you can "learn" just by watching "What's New" videos from the FL team once every 2 months. Your choice anyways, I just know I couldn't wait for 12.5, and later for 20, and so on... What a great team they have!

Anyways, I'm not sure if you knew, but there's software which you can use on your (old) tablets and such, which you can program yourself for various things. Like, having controls for a synth or seeing and adjusting the mixer volumes, drum pads, custom controls for keyboard shortcuts etc. It's fully customizable, great stuff.

I didn't, and that's awesome!

iMac running Logic Pro 8,with Yamaha HS7 monitors,Sennheiser headphones and a Presonus audio interface...and thats it!

Nice and minimalistic. I imagine that you're dj'ing when you're using the HS7's since they're roughly at head level when you're standing up?

I'm still amazed that you don't need much technology these days to be able to create awesome music!

Your set-up is sweet @SecondNature, only thing missing is a nice little plant somewhere. Trying to build my set-up like this too at the moment, with the double monitors and large desk + some room for gaming.

Ive never really DJed live in the 'studio' hehe.
Ah ok. How come the monitors are above your head? I figure they should be pointed at you when you're sitting...unless you're standing up when you're producing?

I wish I had a plant...but even more...I wish I had windows! Lol. We're living in a apartment building where this part of the apt is in the middle...actually more of a den than a bedroom. The room has no natural light, which sucks, so I figure few plants would stay alive here, unless I constantly move it back and forth to where it can catch some sunlight.

Once you go double monitors, it's really tough to go back! I love the amount of workspace you get and I think it's a better option versus getting one of those ultra widescreen monitors. But it'll also depend on what you're doing, of course. The ultra widescreen would be sick if you're gaming. The PS4 can't do that resolution so I didn't really feel the need to get one, even though they look amazing.

Looking forward to seeing your setup when you get it finished!

My setup has been in place for a while now... but I haven't had time to acquaint myself with Ableton. The main desk was also too high until recently and that put me off from using the studio. Lowered the desk now to as low as it would go and it's still a bit too high and I'll need a foot stool, but better than before. I did a lot of research before buying stuff and multiple screens were praised by pretty much everyone, so I've got three screens now.

Ableton Live 10
Presonus Eris E5 monitors
Audient ID-4 Audio interface
Kitsound DJ headphones - fairly cheap and probably don't need to invest in anything high end because the studio monitors are really good quality

So, it's about getting grips with Ableton now. There are tons of YT tutorials out there but I figure it's best to read the manual first, 700+ pages long it is though

Nice. I like the L setup of the tables. And I am amazed by the quality of the PreSonus monitors for the price.

Thanks, your desk is ideal for production. Is that a lava lamp?
There is a YT channel which compares the sound of different monitors whilst the same song is playing, that's how I picked those. And they said those were the best for the price range.

It's actually a Himalayan salt lamp. I bought it a while back for some mood lighting and I thought it looked cool. I also geeked out and grabbed some cable management accessories so it looks as neat as it can be, haha. My previous setup was way messier and I'm a sucker for clean cables.

Figure I'd also share my younger brother's studio picture, which I helped set up for him.

M's Setup.jpg

We got super lucky and found a used desk and computer chair for 50 bucks, along with a free orange couch all on craigslist. Only thing really new was the tv mount, string LED lights behind the tv, cable management accessories, and the monitors. His gearlist is:

Macbook Pro w/ Ableton
Akai MPK49 (with one crappy key lifted up, lol)
Akai MPC Live
Focusrite Scarlett Audio Interface
PreSonus Eris 3.5 Monitors
Microphone w/ stand (not sure what brand)

Love all the gear! I owned a DDJ SB2, really nice machine when I got back into dj'ing a few years ago. Though I'll always remember my first dj setup:

2 Technics SL1200 M3D's
Rane MP44 Mixer
2 Ortofon Niteclub cartridges

I also like the idea of having a touchscreen monitor to make things more productive and efficient.

You are definitely old school, I started djing recently and producing even more recently, if i can call it producing - maybe in an year or two. Technics and Rane sounds super cool must of cost a pretty penny back in the days :)

My older brother went to parties in his later teens and took me along, so I just got lucky! And that dj setup was the club standard back in the early 2000's so we wanted to follow suit. It cost a pretty penny now but I'm sure it costs even more now, as vinyl is making a comeback and it's vintage gear.

What Korg synths do you have that wasn't pictured? I used to have a Microkorg and Kaossilator, but sold those off when I took a break from producing music.
