I mentioned this already in another thread, but can we please get the ‘Classic Trance Discussion’ section back so we have somewhere to chat about the older sounds, classics events and all sorts rather than just being able to post up releases?

I know it wasn’t that active on the old boards but would like to see it return and maybe things will be different this time round 😊

The 'classics discussion' part on the old forum was hardly used, and people would just jump to the 'classic releases' part. So that's why we didn't do that again.

I'd propose to first post whatever you want in the Music Discussion section. There are already some threads about 'older trance', like this one:
Why you should listen to pre-1995 trance (+ some pointers)

If that Main section really would be flooded with all sorts of threads, then we can always see what's needed to add. Just my 2 cents though. Other's are welcome to share their opinion too of course ;)

I know it was hardly used before, but as someone that’s interested almost purely in older/retro Trance, I’d rather not have to scroll through random threads of non related music in other styles.

If it’s implemented here from the start it may well be used more this time round.

Many of the people I’ve invited already are interested in the older sounds and may possibly feel after signing up that they’ve no home to talk about what they’d like to.

Would it not be a better idea to have it to begin with and then consider removing it later if you feel it’s pointless?

Hard to know if it warrants its own section. The last one had some good discussion but was essentially abandoned over time and not very active at all, but I think this may have been partly due to the fact it was buried in a subsection, rather than having designated space on the homepage. I agree that it may see more use this time around

Like Magnevi I would like to see if more people create classic related posts in the music discussion to gauge appetite. I know it will potentially require more searching to find relevant threads on classic only content but right now we only have 3 pages in this section so dont think stuff is getting too buried.

I am not convinced either way right now. I think I was the one who got the classic section built in the first place on the old forum many years ago and its something I would love to see work, for sure. We will get some more thoughts and also when we hit more pages in the music discussion section we will have a little review also.

I'm 50-50 as well; your points are all valid to me. Doesn't take much work to make a new section (and move the threads there), so on that front we're straight - if we find the need, we'll do it straight away.

Yeah I understand you guys too.

I guess part of the issue (at least for myself here) is that I feel kinda put off from posting in the music discussion area in the first place with it being open to music of all sorts and I'd much prefer to see a dedicated home for classics discussion as it was previously (even if it isn't the most active).

It's you guys call at the end of the day of course, just giving my two cents and honest thoughts :)

Id probably agree with the others that theres not much scope for it - i think the classic track section more than makes up for it as you can talk about individual tracks. I personally would like to see the productions & DJ mix forum seperated but dont think that will happen.

This actually makes more sense to me. Will discuss with others.

The 'User-sets' section was pretty much dead, so that's why the 2 creative sections were merged.

There are like 5 or 6 dj-sets posted now. Which is quite a lot already I'd say. Some are a bit spammy, only looking for plays, and not much like "look i made something what do you think". Those spammy topics are not ideal when you're looking for actual feedback and reactions. So yeah, those are annoying when you just posted your own production, I know.

So, we'll keep an eye on it. If it's less dead than it appeared to be, maybe a split is justified.

I understand, but i dont think its about something being 'dead' - its more that productions & DJ mixes are two very different things - the producer forum on the old TF was quite popular and one of the best sections imo - but yeah i'd be biased anyway about that hehe. I agree theres too much spam regarding DJ mixes - id want to just see personal mixes DONE by members there.

Well if you make an account, then you are a "member". The difference of course is, I might check out a mix by Magdelayna, or Thijs, or Gijs. Contributing members. A topic with a nice story, what and why is mixed.

I'm not interested in sets by RandomDJ2819 with only 1 post (being the thread with his set, no story, just the set,.....which is what I called "spammy").

On the old forum though, there was no spamfest at all in the mixes-section. So I'd say, let's keep an eye on it for the coming weeks/months. If it's flooded by mixes, giving no space for productions, then a split can always be done.

As fellow bedroom-producer I'm totally onboard with your perspective Magdalayna, so don't worry.

i agree - but what i would say for any members with a monthly show or whatever - create ONE thread for that series - and add episodes to it,instead of flooding the forum.

Yeah, after discussion, I'd say I agree with @Magnevi on this one. Let's just wait and see if the split is justified after some time.

That rule is already in place for the Radio Shows section.

I really don't see what harm its doing to have this section to begin with and then simply remove if it's not working. It was on the old boards and makes more sense to see how it goes here rather than to make the place feel more limiting.

I'm here for Trance music and of course want Trance only forums, not Classic Trance topics thrown in amongst other stuff I have no interest in.

I've created a single thread in the music discussion so far about posting your latest Trance vinyl and CD purchases and one single post in, Trancefix crew are asking if other genre's can feature 😩

Well we could create classictrancefix.nl ? :p:LOL:

Yeah, or we could just have the same options as before rather than what's on offer and see how things go rather than assume it'll just be the same as before. "Oh theres only 2 threads in this section after a month".....click delete. Makes far more sense to me than having a lot of new like minded members who maybe weren't here before signing up and feeling there's not a specific Trance area on a Trance forum for them to post in.
