what can I say about this record.... loved by everybody in the underground scene and somehow fits nicely into trance, house, prog and techno sets.
named after the Hale Bopp comet which was seen from Earth in 1997, the melody and the whole vibe of this track is somehow unique. the main melody is complex but feels simple at the same time. it feels serious and cold, whilst the other sounds around it feel warm, happy and summery. a unique record, one of all time greats!

first released version was in 1998

a more tranced up remix from 1999

loads of remixes have followed since, most recently a bunch was released two months ago, including this

and among the recent remixes the very first version from 1997, previously unreleased, was also released. it sounds more pumped up than the raumgleiter version.

The original Hale Bopp always felt like an oddity. It doesn't really fit with the trance scene of its time, which was already trending toward super dramatic trance anthems in 1998. It would have been a better fit for the early-90s Eye Q, Platipus Records era.
To be honest, I'm a bigger fan of the Orkidea remix, which modernized it while also retaining the qualities that made Hale Bopp fantastic.

Of course it would not fit with the trance sound of the late 90's, 'Out of the Blue' sounds pretty outdated after 22 years, but 'Hale Bob' is like wine and it will have new fans in every decade, the djs still play it heavily.

I always prefer 'Brenner' as my favourite DDR track:

Yeah, it's one of those tracks that's universally loved and always draws new fans. It will never die! The other ones like this that I can think of are Jam & Spoon - Stella, Jam & Spoon - Odyssey to Anyoona, Age of Love - Age of Love, FSOL - Papua new guinea

A style completely unique, yet unquestionably German. I remember its initial release and not getting it, but over the years it continued to develop a strong place in my collection and if experienced live you feel an almost psychedelic nature to it.
