Hey, I'm taking a business class and one our assignment is to ask my friends a question, so I'm reaching out to you guys. If you had to point 3 things you think I'm good at what would you say? Thanks!

I always come on here to see the latest trance being posted even tracks/classics I have never even heard of before. What are some things you'd go to me for? I know most of the people here don't know me personally but judging by my posts and what I have posted in the past and talking to some people on facebook as well.

Cheers

tough one, we've never met in person, only on this forum,

based on that though, I would say you

1: have very keen eye (ear) for detail
2: are good at critizizing (thats a positive)
3: are very meticulous when a task is set on you. So for instance if you come across a sound or artist that you like, you're capable of digging up/analysing every single instant of creation by said artists or carriying that soun

Thanks for that I didn't know that to be honest. Tell that to Jono Grant and Arksun who banned me from their forum a number of years ago.

Cheers - I want to create a blog to post tracks I find and use the money generated from traffic to kickstart a label that is very niche in trance the 90s and 2000's Trance from various spectrum. Hard part is finding the producers who make this.

you can start by a radio show/dj show, in where you also expressly ask for demo's of the type you're playing. This, if semi-succesfull, can function as a magnet for like/style minded musicians.

a good example of this is Suicide Sheep, who now owns his own very succesfull label

I am somewhat afraid what will happen if I do start it. What would people think. Success is a very tough road and it does not teach you as much as failure does. Success just boosts your ego.

Oh yeah thats perfectly understandable.. basically you're exposing yourself to the whole bloody world and you and you alone will be responsible for how that looks/sounds and consequentely its success and/or backlash..

But every choice including not doing it, (or at least trying it) has consequences m8. i mean, one consequence of not attempting it is that it might become a "what could have been" dream and you will never know what might have turned out had you attempted it. Thats something that could end up possibly haunting a person for the rest of his life, its like a hatched baby turtle who's stuck at the beach, scared of the water, watching all his siblings go on this adventure whilst staying behind, eventually perishing (Now that might be a bit of a harsch analogy but you get my drift a bit I hope)

An attempt and in the worse case scenario failure or impasse at the very least gives you something to reflect on. (and if you're a bit resilient, you can try again, this time armed with that knowledge)

What I usually do when endevouring something scary in my life, whether it be getting a morgage, changing job/own company, starting a family or even something as mundaine as attempting a looping on my surfkit, Is a stoic approach of imaging the worse things that could happen should I fail. So in case of that looping, I could injure myself falling on top of my gear/breaking everything and drown. I then 1, try to live with that, as in, learn to accept that horrible reality and "be ok with it". think about it, meditate on it. accept it. then 2, minimize that risk. so wear a helmet, life jacket. and practice somewhere where there's people/help around and on waste high flat water/lake.

and then just go for it.

In your specific case I would say the endeavour is relativly safe though. You won't die or injure yourself if you try this for instance, Its not going to cost you massive amounts of money, you can start small and take your sweet time perfecting it, (especially if its a side project).

What about facing against the largest Department where I was belittled and mocked and bullied too.

I have pissed off a lot of rich people too in my life and got nowhere in the end and I ended up making things worse or more complicated just because when I try to stand out for things I believe me I get given the silence treatment or I fail miserably and people end up saying that my ideas are too idealistic and I hurt myself in the process because I don't love myself enough. I think JOOF is a hypocrite, all that talk about back in 2010 in his essential mix "Bringing back trance back to it's roots" was a load of crap and I spit at him at the fact that I helped him but he has turned his back on the genre by getting rid of the word "Trance" from his radioshow that has brought him lot of good fortune and many others as well. I did pass my frustration towards his dumb management team like Glenn JOOF but they closed that forum down too. They closed down Trance.nu, Anjuna, ASOT and JOOF too. He didn't help Airwave much he is still struggling and I know for a fact that he doesn't like doing gigs because travelling can be so tiring both mentally and physically and he would rather spend time with his family and making music and even though djing can be a lot of fun like meeting people.

I am happy to give it a go but I might use bandcamp as a means of distributing music

Sure, and just to be clear. I am not in anyway trying to belittle or tone-down your (terrible) lived experiences when I make suggestions by the way..i'm just trying to (clumsily) help because I genuinly think your...how to put this.... true-to-form sense of artistic integrity aswell as your capacity to really delve deep/sink your teeth into (x) project it is something that has the potential to bring forth some great (in his case) music. Whether that be Dj sets or individual tracks what have you...

Also note...None of those earlier things you mentioned where ever your own project. Those scenario's have (again, afiak and imvho) always been about you ( basically) standing up/trying to chance to someone else's project. Whether that be standing up to the boss about the way things where going in the company you worked, or trying to influence an artist/ Dj you (used to) admire for what you thought was better for the scene and/or product. In any case you where always fighting an uphill battle against someone or something else. Which, especially when it comes down to artists and rich bosses, is a pretty futile fight. Since they're the ones in power and can simply fire you or ban you if they find you (too) annoying/inconvinient.

however.

this would by definition be different. This time you're already in full control from the get-go. It'll be you on the hill, you get to make the (artistic) rules, you get to decide how much time you're going to invest, you get to pick the direction etc.. and if say in case of a blog or internal forum or facebook page orso related to your project..you get ASOT fans complaining on where the fartbasses are, you get to ban/fire them.

now again, its impossible to say if you'll be succesfull with this, I unfortunatly<pun don't own a glass orb...maybe it'll just be you and yours, maybe you'll conquor the world with it. maybe you'll abandon the project out of boredom later on... dunno. but it'll in any case be different. And (imvho again) well worth at least the try :)

i mean what do you genuinly have to lose from where you're stitting now? whats the worst that could happen?

Bandcamp = big recommend from my part. I love Bandcamp. @Magdelayna I suspect will confirm this.. It gives you total financial and artistic control, direct revenue etc. A pre setup professional platform, proper interface, customer support its free.

genuine recommend especially for starters.

Exactly. At the end of the day, you're not relying on promoters to get you booked at gigs. You're not going to ask for support from JOOF, Airwave, Armin, and so on. You're going to be on your own, which means you're free from everyone else's influence.
This isn't like when Airwave had his career threatened because he pissed off some rich people. Honestly, with this kind of project I doubt you will ever run into anyone who could harm you at all.

You are going to piss people off but I the mindset I truly I want is how can I positively impact the scene rather than focusing on the negatives. Don't get me wrong criticism is good but when it becomes toxic that's when you have to take a step back.

I have been taking a marketing course with the ultimate aim of establishing my own marketing agency in the near future. Currently, I am exploring various tools, such as verification codes, to understand how they can contribute to my career development. This hands-on approach allows me to gain practical insights into different instruments and assess their potential impact on my future endeavors.
