Jerry Maguire (1996)

Was good, enjoyed the football story but it turned into a romantic movie too quickly. Did not expect, or want, that. But by god, old Tommy is charismatic as fuck.

Local Hero (1983)

Loved how almost offbeat it is all the while following a simple storyline. Kinda perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon under the blankets movie session. Totally relaxing, it almost doesn't feel like a movie (structurally, at least). The humour is also great, not overdone and sort of organic. It just flows so beautifully.

Speaking of butchered sci-fi's, looks like Ridley Scott will get his final instalment of his modern Alien trilogy. Surprised he was allowed to after what he did to Covenant? Third time lucky?

But.... why explain every single fucking thing!? Where's the concept of "leaving stuff for the imagination"? I honestly don't get why directors have the urge to explain every single concept/character/background/lore for everything in their universe. The best storytelling part of the original Alien was exactly THAT; We didn't know where it came from, if it was created, did it evolve naturally, did it have a goal or was it just a mindless killing machine; Not knowing any of that made it much more exciting and mysterious.

I didn't even watch Alien but I'm 100% sure you're absolutely right.

The Green Knight - 2021

Strange fantasy film based on a poem, apparently falls under the King Arthur universe. There's actually not a lot that happens but i think the manged to create a nice darker atmosphere. There a no great CGI fight scene's or thins like that in it and tbh i didn't miss theme

Ford vs Ferrari (alt. title: Le Mans '66) - 2019

waited forever to watch it but i really liked it. I liked the story and the acting was really good. No idea why i waited so long, i think it was the runtime and the synopses didn't really draw me in.
The runtime was no problem though, the pacing was well done. Glad i have watched it .

Body Brokers - 2021

Started watching, the broke it off and started a week later again but still haven't finished it. I think that says enough.

Boss Level - 2021

Action flick with timetravel / Groundhog day element. We've seen it before but it was ok.

Nope. Not even the movies!
Same here. I can't get into science fiction with horror undertones. I just find them to be off putting and downright silly. The only one I've enjoyed is Independence day and even that it was silly too.

Are you honestly comparing a Roland Emmerich movie with Alien/Aliens?

Dune [2021 - Denis Villeneuve]

What can I say? Watched it last night with some friends. Absolutely loved it. Yes it's quite slow at some points, but it keeps your attention to the big screen. Visually it's mindblowing, and really impressed with the immense size of buildings and ships.
Story wise it's true to the book I've been told? @Katadunkass

Another masterpiece by Denis, which you SHOULD see in the cinema. Don't make the mistake like I did by watching it in 3D. That doesn't add anything at all.

Positive things:

Visuals
Atmosphere
Acting
Sound FX
Story

Negative things:

Last part of the movie is quite slow towards the open ending.
Zimmers soundtrack is bombastic, but very forgettable [as usual..sigh]

Yup  -I like good cheese nothing too serious. Alien seems like a very serious movie like a psychological thriller/horror/sci-fi.

What is it about the Zimmer soundtrack that you didn't like. That loud sound with using those loud drums sound is so over used they are like in your face. There is nothing iconic or unique about them anymore it's like he is just recycling old stuff.

"Let's fight like demons" man, these are horrible dialogues.

Haha pretty spot on yes. Those loud drums are part of the problem I'm having with the soundtrack indeed. I won't say it's terrible, but hoped for more.

There are good drummers out there but it's hard and the dialogue why do they sound so strange and the execution is so poor and the overused loud trombone, french horn and tuba too. I miss this hans zimmer. Rather than focusing more on tension and emotions they seem to be focusing more on putting random noises in certain sequences in Dune.

Personally, I am not a big fan of the recent blockbuster soundtracks being released. I personally find them to be too loud, nothing memorable, they are just a bunch of random of noises of drums and horns being composed from real instruments too but there is something missing. A human soul element is missing in all of them. After hearing so many of the recent soundtracks of Star Wars, Dune, Iron Man, Marvil and etc etc.

The last one I truly enjoyed of a soundtrack was back in Merlin Tv series back in 2008 and Bleach and Death Note as well. Those were recent ones that I liked. I also like Jeremy Soule's album too

RANT over.

Ha, fair enough; If you don't like psychological horror/thriller sci-fi movies, you shouldn't watch Alien(s) - and when saying that, I actually lying, everyone on the planet should watch Alien(s)!

Release date here is 22 October... I'm not particularly super hyped and my expectations are toned down but I'll back to the cinema for this movie after 2 year hiatus.

I think I'll go watch No Time To Die once it's out on 7th. My expectations are really low, but hey, it's made for the big screen and I'll just try and sit through it at once.
