Sure, I'm interested in learning more about those cases where the opposite happened.

I would argue that more equality is more wealth and opportunity, at least for marginalized/low-income communities. But I can see how crime would shoot up if you forcefully take from the "haves" (wealthy White suburbanites in the US, for example).
White people are not the only wealthy. What is it with taking from people who earned and giving to people who didn't? I don't like this idea. I worked very hard for what I have.

I want to be very clear, the idea of white privilege is pure trash. Wealth privilege is real.

equality is equality. if you turn it into something else by pinning "positive things you like" to it you're muddying the definition of what we're talking about.

i wasn't even refering to that scenario. what makes you think the huaites will stick around once you've passed the bill? (which is one of the examples, venezuela, that i was going to bring up) now you have even less wealth to distribute then you would have from the taxes they're already paying. Basically your shooting yourself in the foot if your goal is better conditions/more wealth.

also: the concept is going to have has a limited scope. The sphere of application of (formal) equality of opportunity is only in public life, not private life. Which is where the majority of development takes place.

I think you'd (demonstrably) be a lot better of with freedom and fairness, who're both diametricall opposites of equality as a concept, if you intend to improve (those) people's lives.

I think, knowing dmgtz96, that that was just an off the cuff example.

Possibly, but its always a white person being used as an example of having more. I am white, grew up poor as shit, worked 68 hours a week for 10 years, sold my business and now I live comfortable. Anyone can do what I did. I didn't blame anyone. I didn't steal.

Yes, the "wealthy white suburbanite" is one of the more common examples of wealth in the US. I've worked with white people who grew up in poor, rural areas. I've also studied and worked along minorities who grew up in the 'burbs of major cities.

race will never end because everything is black and white.

a little off topic, but I found this funny. During obama race was mentioned very little, but when trump took office that is all we heard. How come we never heard trump was a racist before office? That is when I remember race being blown way out of porportion.

yep, such is life

With respect to Trump. Before he ran for office, he was celebrity-like, but the average person didn't think much about him.
Trump has a record of questioning Obama's birth certificate, i.e. he's a birther. Not sure if that makes Trump a racist, but those comments are out there.

To be president you: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident ...

IMO only, I think thats why he did it. TBF, once he was president (trump that is) had done more for the black community in 4 years than obama in 8.

But it's worth saying that with trump it went as low as 5.5% in September last year - the lowest figure recorded since the US Department of Labor started collecting these statistics in the 1970s.

Correct. That doesn't mean you should latch onto that conspiracy for years. Did the same "birther" conspiracy occur with previous presidents?

Latch to a conspiracy, I agree. Remember the russian nonsense for 4 years! How about joe having 10% stock in china? That should be a huge conflict, but no one is reporting on it.

I almost think we should have private convos about this. :) Just to not flood the chat.

Bush? Born and raised in Texas.
I couldn't find any claims that Bush was not born in the US, but if there were any, that's so dumb. He's an All-American dude.

regardless of whether they're true or not, I agree. So much wasted energy when they should have been working on policy or other things that benefit the people.

@Gagi have you (or any other history lovers here) ever listened to Dan Carlin, with the podcast Hardcore History? His podcasts are absolutely incredible, might be the best Ive ever heard, not just on history but podcasts in general. Strong focus on the historical rulers and their authoritarian and/or global conquests.

Have one on now and recon you would like it. Beyond fascinating and so in depth.

wtf happened to Br8k L3gnd?
His account appears as "Guest." Just noticed it right now

to keep the thread on-topic, I'm still procrastinating my reading of 12 Rules...

I still have the man on Soundcloud, he told me he enjoyed his time here but seen as the entire forum (at least that was his impression) hated the music he loved (so basically the newer Orjan stuff) he decided to move on to a more producer-based forum as opposed to a trance music one.

ps:

In case you're scared of being turned to "the dark right wing side" :devilish: 😝

his follow up 12 more rules for life actually got quite a glowing review from one of Breadtube's main figureheads Philosophy Tube. Though you'll have to take his/her word for it as I also haven't been able to pick that up due to various life issues.
