In general, there should be an upper limit on salary in professional sports. it cannot and must not be the case that players have provided for generations and a nurse does not know how to eat and pay the rent for the apartment.

Well, the player makes money, which, in tax, allows the state to pay more nurses (or pay nurses more), whereas the nurses are just a cost - they don't produce anything profitable, they provide a service (usually free of charge - if healthcare is available to anyone) which also costs in equipment as well. Players pay taxes on their salaries, transfers, the whole industry exists around them.

It's surreal, I agree, but economically it works out, and it works out quite well.

What I like about the NFL is the charities and everything. It's annoying being reminded of cancer and so on when you're trying to relax on a Sunday, but that's what us Europeans should take from the NFL first. We have to have a culture of donating to people/research in need of money - and big-time players are in a perfect position to do that.

And because the state doesn't want to pay nurses, hospitals are privatized and all the money of the sports millionaires can be used for tanks and machine guns. The nurse thinks about what she has to sacrifice to buy her son an FC Bayer/Borussia Dortmund jersey.
The system works wonderfully, for the rich ones.

I agree with you, what the NFL is doing is exemplary. But i could live without this salute to service stuff. Of course that's only available in the states :)

^ When he retires I will most likely stop following any sports to be honest. It's a lot more fun to play the sport for me.

I have stopped following sports like Cricket because the golden era for that has ended for me. Shane warne retired from cricket ,and the great commentators passed away now they are getting women cricket which is not as appealing for me at all and T20 is boring it's nothing more than alternative version of baseball it's nothing more than a slogathon

To most it will mean absolutely nothing, but Zach Ertz is leaving Philly. So sad for him, he wanted (and deserved!) to retire in Philly, but the way modern NFL is (and professional sports in general are) it was just a fairytale fans kept telling themselves.

Such a shame one-team players are a rare breed nowadays, but it's just proof that professional sports are a business, and even if you're one of the best and most experienced on the roster doesn't mean the organisation won't move on from you.

He was also 11 or so catches shy of the all-time record in Eagles' history. That could've been one game, or two. He deserved that, at least.

Should he take it: sure. But why does the world care so much? There are sooooooooo many soccer players non vaccinated.

Why make Djokovic a badguy when nobody cares about that. We call it selectieve verontwaardiging in Dutch.

Also: I have a new stance on covid: We focus on the complete society while our IC-beds are filled with mostly: white, male, 50+ of age, 25+ BMI, not vaccinated.

(yeah yeah also vacinated get on IC but way less…

So can we please finally get a legal obligation to make that group take the vaccin.

But noooo, lets focus on one single man who is young and fit and very body-conscious…

Wrong priority to argue over Djokovic. Let the guy play if he tests negative ffs…

Haha completely missed those memes. The 1st one is gold. Novax. 😂

Yeah heard it's possible that 3 tennis players got a visa the same way, but the Government chose to single him out. Anyways, we might not know every fact, but really, I think he shot himself in the foot with his past comments and ideals.

It's glorious seeing him get his arse handed to him. Let's not forget this is the guy who, at the start of the pandemic when major sports tournaments got cancelled, ignored all advice and guidance to organise his own tournament at which several players and their relatives then got infected.

100% deserved.

The tournament was held within the countries rules at that time…

Less nice was the party with Zverev and Thiem. And Djoko was there too I think.

But again, look at the whole world. Which youngster hasn’t partied for a bit the last two years? We should also be realistic.

punish by media for Djoko, fine. But please some equality then… who’s next!

Djokovic isn't entitled to enter a foreign country, regardless of his wealth or how good he is at his sport.

Yeah heard it's possible that 3 tennis players got a visa the same way, but the Government chose to single him out. Anyways, we might not know every fact, but really, I think he shot himself in the foot with his past comments and ideals.
Those players should be investigated if they did not meet the exemption, and deported if it turns out their reasons were false.

edit: for what it's worth, criticizing the media for zooming into this story is valid. That being said, a story about a prominent rich antivaxxer having his passport cancelled sells (and don't tell me he's not; I don't buy into the whole "I want to have an option to choose what's best for my body" that gives him plausible deniability, as pretty much everyone who has that perspective is antivaxx).
