Here's the press release from Koda Press release

For people who don't know who/what Koda is, here's a small explanation from Wiki:

KODA is the collecting society for songwriters, composers and music publishers of Denmark.
Its role is to act as an agent for its members in order to collect license fees whenever their musical works are performed in public, broadcast or transmitted, and to pay out performing royalties.
In 1935, an agreement reached with and a concession were given by the Danish Ministry of Culture in which the public performance rights were established.

Here's an excerpt from the press release:
The agreement will replace the local agreements of the Norwegian, Finnish and Danish composers and songwriters’ societies, combining them in a single, joint agreement with Google. In the case of Koda, the national agreement for Denmark expired in April, after which it was temporarily extended – as is standard practice in the industry while negotiating a new agreement.
Now, however, Google have issued a new demand: if the agreement is to be temporarily extended, Koda must agree to reduce the payment provided to composers and songwriters for YouTube’s use of music by almost 70% – despite the fact that YouTube’s use of music has increased significantly since Koda entered into its last agreement with Google.
Of course, Koda cannot accept these terms, and Google have now unilaterally decided that Koda’s members cannot have their content shown on YouTube and that their fans and users on YouTube will be unable to listen to Koda members’ music until a new agreement is in place.
Now of course this is only from Koda's point of view. From what I can tell, Dan Chalmers, director of Youtube Music in Europe, Koda is simply asking for more money than what's fair in comparison to other countries.

I don't listen to a lot of danish music, and definitely not on Youtube, but the worst part is Youtube apparently blocked a lot of other international songs from artists like Eminem, Linkin Park, a whole-lot of Hip Hop, RnB and more. I have a VPN, so I can still listen/watch to it all, but it's weird times for a lot of Youtube viewers in Denmark right now.

Youtube is such a harsh platform. They just strip accounts of 1000's of followers or 100's videos without a care in the world. Even tracks that have been on the platform for 15 years with millions up millions of views and comments will just be eradicated over night. Now they are playing content police for a whole country?

Dan Chalmers may be right that about a there being disproportionate ask from Denmark, but its likely that everyones country is getting unfair payment from a company that takes in 15 billion a year. So many good things about YT, but deep down you know they don't care about the music side of things. Even YT music has been a failure, I think it shows how much love and expertise they choose to bring to the matter

I honestly don't care much about danish music on YT, but many people in Denmark do and to them this sucks ass. What I find infuriating is that Google/Youtube have decided to block a shit ton of electronic music as well. I can't even listen to Hoopoe - Hutan, Ferrys new Black Lion or even some older classics without a VPN. Total bullshit

I just noticed some of my tracks are now blocked in Denmark. So does that mean if youre in Denmark youve lost all the music from Youtube??
It means some tracks/songs are blocked. To me it seems completely random; Everything from italic disco to ambience, indie rock to soul and regular pop is blocked. We still have Nena - 99 Luftballons which I guess is better than nothing....

Time to do something about these BigTech companies. Google also killing of GPM in favor of Youtube Music only to boost subscriptions or shove more ads down your throats.

I know a couple who use / used GPM and they love(d) it. It's AI recommendations were typical spot on, much better than Spotify and YT Music. But yeah, GPM didn't get any love from Google itself and it was only a matter of time before they decided to axe it

Well i did'nt have a subscription. I just used it as a music player on and to buy music in the store. It was capable of merging streaming tracks and tracks on the sd card in the library and i could stream the music on multiple devices.
I'm not sure where to move to now. Maybe just go back to an 128gb sd card and buying music elsewhere.

I read that neither Apple Music nor Spotify could play music that's on an sd card. U have to upload al your music first and stream it back. Or maybe i just have to give up my resistance to paying to listen to music you already own and give in

I used Google Play Music a lot in the past. Mainly as an alternative to Spotify, for uploading the parts of my collection which weren't available on Spotify. I haven't really been using it lately though, as I've had my fair share of issues with it (especially the Android app).
However I'm not really a fan of YT Music though, so when GPM is closing down I guess that'll be it for me, as I can't think of any other alternatives where I can upload my own collection.

I can't say much about Apple Music, but I'm pretty sure it's not possible it's not possible to upload any music to Spotify. Instead you're "stuck" with whatever is in Spotify's own library.
That being said it's possible for Spotify to play local content. I just never used these functions, so I'm not quite sure how this works.
