Transitioning from one year to another has become rather uninteresting and banal

I don't think there's much to say about this other than when you reach a certain age certain things you thought they were such a big deal start to become rather pointless and banal, this is pretty much what transitioning from one year to another has become to me, and this isn't even new for me, I remember back in the transition from 2018 to 2019 I told a friend of mine that I considered it rather boring and banal and I think this has to do with the fact that it's pretty much always the same thing probably mixed with a lack of interest on what's to come, I don't know if any of you feel the same way I do about this specific event but for me transitioning from one year to another has really become rather trivial and without much to say about it.

Anyway, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy 2023 with all good things happening to all of us here.

Happy New Year fellow Trancers!

It is what you make I think. The actual moment of passing from year to the other I couldn't really care, but I do see a new year as a milestone to become and better person or live a better life. Having plans set for the year really makes me excited, and having goals keeps me motivated and excited too. I definitely look back at each year as a chapter worthy of review or reflection.

Got a really exciting trip planned in Canada, I will learn to snowboard properly, I will finally get my game I'm making on kickstarter, will give loads of effort to the Trancefix label, go 3+ months without drinking and try and get a promotion at work. It's nice to think that this time next year I will likely be healthier and with tons of fun experiences on my belt.

I find that placing proper efford in say: maintaining a tradition or yearly event (like New Year’s Eve) brings back feelings of special and worth, although they still somewhat pale with yesteryears memories.

(curse you, memory consolidation!)

Unity? Unreal?

My kickstarter will basically be for funding development and some artwork creation. It's a mobile game (maybe I will do desktop too) and I have the front end and assets designed + many of the mechanics figured out. Just need to write the story. It's a space exploration game, primarily text based, but with combat, career, loot and other RPG like mechanics. If I pull it off it will be amazing!

Hit me up if you need Dev help and/or a soundtrack. I’ve got some experience in that field writing tracks for SFIA among which.

I dunno. With the way the past few years have been, I actually enjoy any excuse to get together with family & friends and just enjoy their company. It tends to just be a few people, a small group these days that I’m close to rather than some big event though.

Back to the grind tomorrow though, never liked that bit! :p

For me the NYE is just a chance to go out to a bigger event/party/whatever than I've been to the entire year. An evening like most, but somehow that day makes it more special for everyone else. Could also stay home, although FOMO could kick in. It's natural to feel like the best NYEs were the past ones.

New year though, for me is just a chance to sum the year up, compare yourself to the year before, and figure out the goals and plans for the next year. Sure, you can do that on any day, but this is just a bit neater.

Sometimes it's too easy to give in to your inner cynicism, but lately I've been discovering how much better it is to live by just being excited about things, rather than cynical. As Hens said, it's what you make of it.

Imo the whole thing is overrated and nothing special. I don't care for it one bit.
Off course because of the transition into a new year makes it a bit different from other nights and it's an easy point to start from with new plans and goals but in the end its just a date. You can start realising those new plans and reaching desired goals anytime of the year.

I did a dry July that turned into a dry August, September, October, November and up to mid December. I only had a beer at the winterfestival and one glass of prosecco on NYE. I don't miss drinking at all and don't see myself going back to before. I thought it would be harder actually.

My Christmas / New Year tradition has always been the same since I was teenager and I rather enjoy it. Spend the holidays alone and reflect on some things.
My family in not bad, but I do not enjoy spending holidays with them with the when you gonna get better job, girlfriend, wife, children and et cetera
