From trancehistory.com:

“Twilo Thunder” is one of the many tracks from the legendary year of trance, 1999 of course: Rowan Blades and Simon Noble, from UK, gave birth to the Breeder project the previous year: “Twilo Thunder” is their most famous track, which appeared also in known compilations of trance and progressive music, characterized by an engaging and hypnotic trance rhythm !

A blogger from Twilio (American cloud communications company) wrote a short piece about Twilo Thunder back in '09, where he mentioned how he noticed "Twilo" was a common misspelling for his company's name. He eventually checked out "Twilo Thunder" and liked it! haha

Look at me bumping an old thread lol.

Video in the first post seems to be borked. Here's another sample:

@dmgtz96 The name of the track, much like other Breeder tracks, is related to a place where Sasha & Digweed used to play.

Specifically, 530 W27th Street in NY, between 1995 and 2001 the location of the Twilo 'superclub'. Twilo Thunder refers to the thunderous bass of the club's Phazon sound system, which both Sasha & Digweed praised as one of the best at the time.

Killahurtz's West on 27th released under Hooj is also a direct reference to Twilo's address.

Twilo Thunder is credited as the Stoked Up Mix on the release due to the place it was engineered at, The Midi Rooms, which to the best of my knowledge, was located in Stoke-on-Trent at the time of this release.

If you take a look at Breeder's other tracks, the pattern becomes apparent:

RHYSYN001 (A) - The Chain (Babealicious Mix) - takes its name from the event at The Old Barn where Sasha & Digweed played in 1994
RHYSYN002 (A) - Twilo Thunder (Stoked Up Mix) - as mentioned above
RHYSYN006 (A) - Tyrantanic - pretty sure this is a reference to the Tyrant nights at fabric in London, where Sasha also played. Further supported by the center label text on The Chain:

A big thank you to Nigel Dawson, John Digweed, Sash,
Mick & Mick, Lee Burridge, Jerry, Whoop and all at Tyrant,
Chief, Gringo and special thanks to Tomos for running things

Not too sure about the Club Caribou Mix of Clayface and the others, but these ones seemed obvious.

History lesson appreciated. Gives me a feeling these tracks, The Chain, Twilo and Tyrantantic were part of a series, and to be honest no one else really sounded like Breeder at the time and since then anyway. All 3 are prog weapons of highest order

The names taking inspiration from the places where Sasha & Digweed had gigs is definitely not a coincidence. From what I remember, Rowan Blades even said at one point that their goal was to create music that Sasha & John would play.

As for Tyrantanic specifically, once it was included as the opening track for Northern Exposure Expeditions, and then basically melted into Stage One, there was no going back. One of my favorite mix transitions of all time. Glad to own RHYSYN006 + 6R (Tyrantanic) and Stage One on vinyl.

Funny coincidence. I was having a (long) run yesterday and at the latter stages, I ran out of my preselected tracks. So Spotify just randomly played whatever was on the playlist. Twilo Thunder was one of those tracks which was played.

To be honest, nowadays I like The Chain more. Actually I like pretty much all the elements in Twilo Thunder. That melody and that bassline and it takes me back to Global Underground 009. However, I feel bit like heretic to say this as I usually couldn't care less about the track lengths but... it could be shorter and tighter.

The Chain is definitely great, and one hell of a way to start off Rhythm Syndicate.

There's actually a remix of it, Breeder - If 6 was 9 (Chain Remix), cut at Tape to Tape in April of '99 (so after the 'original' of The Chain). Don't know if this was an actual remix or an earlier version of the track that was cut at a later time. As far as I know, it never made it past the acetate stage.

I do agree Twilo Thunder is a tad on the long side, but I don't really mind it. If however you didn't like how long it was, you definitely won't like this reconstruction of Sasha's Chain x Twilo mashup :p. Has an earlier version of Twilo Thunder methinks, but again, was never released and...I think only played at its namesake club?
