OK so the rules are about to be updated in all release sections, capping the posts at 3 per day. We will delete threads that breach the limit. If it still seems too much we can drop the limit again. Posters who share content with a very high 0 reply rate will have the limit lowered to 1.

Good suggestion overal

The other questions is this; Shall we turn the section into 'Upcoming Trance & Progressive Releases'. Some progressive gets shared here anyway, and a lot of it is good music. Maybe a simple name change for this section will encourage more. Open question.

All sounds good, thanks 👍The name change is a particularly good idea. You could even add melodic techno to progressive, a lot of that is just trance.😉

How about we discard the genre names completely? It is TRANCEfix after all, but "Upcoming Releases" would kinda mean you can share some other stuff in there, but being this is a trance forum, due to our userbase trance might still be the dominant genre, which works well for all.

Here's why: If we add "progressive", should we also add "melodic techno" and "ambient" and whatever else?

The past has show us that EDM and stuff will get posted too. I'd say the Trance thing should stay.

Progressive isn't a genre anyway. It's short for Progressive Trance. So. Thats trance.

I think we shouldnt mix trance with other stuff but im definetly for having a place to post upcoming release of other genres.

We had this other section in the old trancefix that was for other music by former trance music producers, it wasnt used much because it was limited to former trance producers.

If we had a similar section for all other electronic genres i think it would be used more. Let the user himself tag the genre and keep it open for whatever genre they feel like posting.

Artist - Songname [Progressive]
Artist - Songname [Deep House]
Artist - Songname [Breaks]

Additional fields (or hashtags or whatever) for thread titles are really probably not going to happen here, sorry. Titles can be very long already, and introducing color or icons or whatever would make it an UI mess.

I'm willing to turn a blind eye for electronic genres, but I think that the best solution is a thread per genre (such as best of techno, house, ambient, psybient etc). The few non-trance tracks people were gonna share don't really 'deserve' their own section, and at the same time they would kinda clutter the UR section anyways.

Willing to hear out arguments though, it's not a final decision.

I didnt mean that you implement chooseable hashtags i mean the user they simply write it themselves.

Same as you do in the classic section when people write [YEAR] behind the topic.

I dont think a new section would clutter anything at all, it didnt in the old forum. But i also agree maybe its not needed.

All i know is that personally i wouldnt like to see anything mixed together with trance in the upcoming section.

Yeah I know what you meant. I just wrote a couple of variations on that.

New section wouldn't clutter the forum, but it would be rarely used. I meant that posting in the existing one might clutter it, but on second thought I don't think it would clutter it that much. As said, I'm willing to turn a blind eye.

We already discussed this, between us admins, and I think the conclusion was what I just outlined in the post above. Let's just see how it goes and if there's any need for a section, we'll add it.

Buhuu, let me cry the biggest river in existence, but never contribute with anything myself.
I was so confused because his post just said "lots of bleeps." I thought he was talking about how the tracks literally sounded like lots of bleeps, lmao.
Honestly, what he said doesn't sound to different from what a classic trance purist would have said 20 years ago.

Also, RiP to the Trance All Stars posts. I remember seeing those everywhere but now they're just... gone. Had to scroll 5 pages back to find his last post.

All other forums Ive been on has had separate sections for other genres (atleast one, several or many). Thats just makes the forum more alive in my opinion.

Yeah its a worthy idea. Do you not think though that the genre specific threads in the Music Discussion area can handle these types of posts already?

Probably, yes. I just thought about something like having a section for House classics for example and in my mind that felt appealing. Posting a youtube vid in the music disscussion and in some cases a little text for just one track feel kinda cheap. Maybe it isnt, I dont know.

Looking at the first page in UR and 25 out of the 40 threads have 0 or 1 reply. The Tranceallstars guy and Sashamlenik keep posting about 3 per day. Neither of them actually participates in any discussion about the releases. It seems that they literally use that forum as a dumping ground for advertisements.

Yeah, plus the TAR stuff is mainly terrible, generic sledge hammer Trance - theyre basically just releasing anything to make a bit of money. I agree theres too many threads by the same people - although im always interested in what the 'big' producers are releasing - most of the smaller indie label stuff is terrible though, and clogs up the forum.

Yeah, I agree with both of you here but don't know what can we do about that. Do you have any suggestions?

Yeah, well maybe limit it to even 1 per day.

I mean, if Esturea comes with something new, that topic should be hot and near the top, right? And not with 20 topics above it, loads with 1 reply saying "added releasedate". Usually a post from the original thread creator himself. But this isn't a database-site, but a discussion-board.

Also, maybe as rule, when you post a topic, you must include a story about the track, why you post it, why others should check it out. Something. If somebody just posts a thread with a video, we delete the topic.... Harsh... but it works?

I think it's important. If the forum bores people, it will die out. I think the thread-spam is one the things that demotivates.

Good points, but...

Don't think you can force that (although encouragement might work) - anybody can write anything, it's easy to get around and the major contributors will still be there. Their job is to promote their label's works. You only discourage the rest of the userbase to share something.

1/day limit is a bit harsh, but looking at the section it does need something. It's been around 6 months, and in that period we've had close to 700 threads in the UR section alone! I bet there's at least 200 with either no reply or just another posts from the OP.

We can't forbid artists and labels promoting their work (because we also have people like Enlusion, who share better stuff and engage in discussion). If we forbid only a couple of members and labels, it's too selective and discriminatory (even though we'd all like to). Forcing a discussion seems like a bad idea to me - it should be

Yeah I agree, too much clutter. A lot of it we could just delete when we decide to have the cleanup. But there needs to be a certain system in place, where we don't have to clean it up so often and we don't have to have the same discussion because the forum is clogged up with spam.

That Trance Allstars account has posted 55 releases on here since july - go figure. Talk about quantity over quality.
There's no shortage of amateur producers wanting their work to be released somewhere.
Looking at their Facebook profile, Trance All-Stars caters exactly to this demographic. Not only that, but the label experienced minor success with Simon O'shine's track Your Distant World, its most viewed video on Youtube. I imagine this and other Simon O'Shine tracks are what received support from the major DJs, not generic degga uplifter by a random producer (though, to be fair those productions also sound like degga uplifters).

Trance All-Stars Records, founded in 2009, is a leading electronic dance music label. We are representing some of the scenes key artists and rising stars alike, with its unique and hugely successful blend of the finest uplifting, progressive and tech trance from around the globe.
Trance All-Stars Records digital label combines quality sound tunes with massive ideas of talented producers worldwide. In some unique exemptions we also have a possibility to produce and distribute a physical audio CDs or classic vinyl, too. With this label artists have a great chance to make themselves visible, to get in touch with our future releases, latest work and to hear the best and freshest tunes from the world of trance & progressive. Whether you create music in your bedroom or spend most of your life in a studio we offer a fair and open way into the music industry.
We continue to expand and develop, always seeking to find fresh and talented artists that think outside the box, as we feel this is the future of electronic music, if you want to stand out from the crowd!

I wonder if they're making any money at all. Their tracks get very little views on Youtube, so how much realistically are they making on other platforms?
IMO if it's for the money they are just spinning their wheels. They'd have better chance supporting hip hop/trap artists.
