Hey guys, very happy to announce TF recordings first album, Paracosm, by Avalon 62.

Many of you know Aerium/Avalon 62 (@jetflag) from the forum here and when he first shared early samples with me earlier this year I was instantly loving it and immediately asking if he would sign it with us. It's one of my favorite Trance albums from the last 5 years, and maybe even further back than that, so I was extremely happy that the answer was a yes. So many great tracks!

Freakin' awesome previews!! Just what I expected from the master of atmospheric tracks @jetflag , brought back the old Avalon 62 sounds , amazing work @jetflag 👍👏,love your each and every track you make, your style is different from others. Loved Alphanumeric album but this is even better. Just listening to this small previews , it's already album of the year for me ! !

These short previews hardly do any justice to the tracks. Cool little video though.

I see a spotify icon in the end btw. This will actually go on there? What about the earlier releases? Asking for a friend?

It's so difficult waiting for November 1st when I can listen to it straight away. 😶 But I want to experience it and give feedback when everyone else does.

The previews sound absolutely stunning.

Putting this album on Spotify is a very smart move. I'll probably listen to it during my commute to work

I don't know if it's considered smart. Whats to gain for me from having it on spotify? That $10 you spend every month goes almost entirely into Beiber, Minaj, or similar. It gives us a false sense of contribution to the scene, who get nothing back, but the normality is solidified in the act of spending $10 every month in the users mind.

Alternatively if I get lets say 5 payments for the album on Bandcamp then thats 100x more than what I would see on Spotify. I think if streaming wasn't considered an OK norm then that number would be higher than 5, and then put simply, the chances of me and others doing this for a longer period of time would be increased, which means more opportunity and output for Trance scene in general.

I guess the "gain" is more from the listener's point of view instead of the artist's point of view

In the long-run no, because listener has less quality music to listen to as time goes on. Both loose imo.

well, the only semi-permanent way is to buy a physical CD/vinyl ;) for the short-term Spotify works just fine. I've found it easier to use than Youtube, especially now that Youtube is riddled with ads (which you have to deal with if you're listening on your phone, unless you also have Youtube Premium)

What's your solution then? Higher monthly fee? Or you want to get rid of Spotify and other streaming services altogether? People will just use YouTube instead, don't you think ? If you are smart as you said though, you should be selective what you (as an artist/producer) put up there. That's the only temporary solution i see , because it's not gonna disappear any time soon.

Theres never been easy or a lucrative market for "smaller" artists , even back in the CD/vinyl/cassette days, but sure, one CD sale is better than one stream, if that's the argument.

Would love if Spotify re-thought their distribution model, so that part of the 10 you pay is dedicated in part to the musicians you actually listen to. I think they easily have enough capital and monopoly to consider things like this, or other solutions. Bandcamp waive the rights on a Friday sometimes, which is a nice small example. In fact they have been completely successful with their growth as a business so far.

But as I said I think the solution lies with the user, who should not turn to Spotify by default, and probably should consider switching from primarily Spotify as form of consumption to purchasing music as the primary. I do think there is a psychological component in which paying for a service like spotify makes you feel like you a contributing in a legitimate fashion to music. It's illusory to me, it displaces the act of giving in a damaging way.

There really is no loss of convenience by switching to pay what you listen either, and the scene and listener benefits massively. I don't agree that there's never been lucrative markets for unknown, underground scenes or smaller artists. Entire niche underground scenes thrived as little as 20 years ago i.e UK prog house and because people paid for what they listened to those scenes then grew semi internationally because of it. You could also make one succesful track and be paid 100's/1000's.

We can always leave post hoc. Till then it’s worth a try at least me reckons.

advantage is also that we can kick up a big trance hipster fuss when/if that time comes for “stickin it too the streamin man” and going full vinyl :p
