    Old VSTs

@Progrez Less is more. Budget, deadlines, or even laziness meant we didn’t tend to stack endless layers like people do now. We were careful with compression and effects because we didn't have lots of gear. That’s why older tracks often feel a little raw, but they have depth. There wasn’t a mess...

Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

Deconstruction is a great way to learn. It's better than just downloading a template, as happens a lot these days. You have to actually listen and understand.

Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

Just been going through some of my unreleased ideas and I might have 'accidentally' ripped off' BBE - 7 days and one week, Green Martian - Industry, LFO - LFO and about ~10 other famous tunes. I'm tempted to test this theory because these are ideas I didn't copy but I can tell they share some...

LOL you're all good mate! I can hear a hint of My Religion and a few other tunes but how is that a bad thing? I'm flattered if I influenced you in any way. I'm sure My Religion was probably influenced by something else at the time but I'm so bad at copying that I accidentally made that ;)

BUT, I'll add. Even if you don't get recognized for that tune you made that is just weird or different you should absolutely do it because someone will always find it and love it. Whole genres have been built on that. Better do that than download a template and kick a few notes around in Ableton.

Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

That's pretty much my point. If we start trying to claim copyright for a style or a vibe then it's over because the zeitgeist of music and most other creative arts is built on that. There is very little true originality and even if you do create something completely original it's more likely...

Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

Re: the Offshore debate. If this is copyright infringement or plagiarism then we're all screwed. Pretty much everything in music and especially electronic music is derivative. I'm in the curious position of having written a track nearly 25 years ago (Bass Tarts - Summer In Space) that some have...

Matt Darey - Feat - Marcella Woods - Beautiful (2000)

Did anyone spot the vocal isn't the same as the original? I had to pitch it in certain places and change it to fit the minor key of the remix ;)

Matt Darey - Feat - Marcella Woods - Beautiful (2000)

I tried. I lost an almost complete album and hundreds in the process but that's 20+ years ago. I religiously back-up these days.

Shocking stuff that destroys what was once our trance scene

Oh believe me we all tried. A bunch of us signed to Japan's biggest dance label AVEX and pushed to do more but we only ever had a couple of allies in the company. They were very much focused on Japanese pop music and either we went that way or nothing would happen. You can see what happened...

Matt Darey - Feat - Marcella Woods - Beautiful (2000)

@Progrez I probably did a dub mix with less vocal but doubt I made an instrumental. I lost a ton of work to hard disk failures around that time and learned the hard way about backups🤦‍♂️. I guess that is why I don't have any other mixes of this in my archives.

    Firewall - Reflections/Touched (2001)

It was. I started it but it was managed day-to-day by Tim Stark (ATCR). Lange became a partner but our (and everyone elses) distributor Amato, where Tim was the labels manager, ceased operations so we had to close the label.

Magnus - Lighthouse (Artist Album) [TBA]

So looking forward to this @Magnus. Just get it out and don't worry about all that AI nonsense. Incidentally, we just licensed 'Velvet' for a new vinyl compilation on Toneplay. It's one of my favorite tracks EVER!

    Hello

Hi everyone. I'm Andy aka Pulser. I made a few tunes as Pulser Olmec Heads, Insigma and other aliases in the 90s until the early 2010s. I had a few years away but I'm back making music. Blame Julian Julian Del Agranda for my being here. I've been here many times over the past few years as a...

Trance artists with their own unique sound and style

It's the price of getting older. We cling to what was ours but there will always be a new generation and they are also right. They will be where we are in 10-20 years so why not just let them be and enjoy what we had. It is still alive. It doesn't die until we do ;)
