The TranceFix Best of 2021 - RESULTS!

Yeah, it's incredible how far JOOF, both the label and the DJ, have fallen in the past few years. On the flipside, one of the JOOF regulars, Basil O'Glue, had a return to form this year in my opinion. When he's doing housier prog, I find his stuff pretty bland, but his prog trance is unique and...

Old School/Classic Trance Producers in 2020 (and beyond)?

Very nice ones! I like 10so especially. Looks like the EP is his debut, very impressive stuff. Digging the wide range in styles (even if most of em aren't trance). Wasn't sure whether to post this in this thread or the techno one, we'll put it here.

OUT Repulsive Force - TRANS006 [Translusid]

Seo John is one of the artists I'm really excited about for this year! Basically came out of nowhere last year and laid down some huge tunes. I'm excited to see how he progresses.

Rare tracks not found in download stores

This tune was originally on the remix EP package but seems to have vanished.

Old School/Classic Trance Producers in 2020 (and beyond)?

New Space Cadets (Lisene + Adam Pits) EP coming out with a remix from Rudolf C. Their last offering was vinyl only so I'm glad this one's getting a digital release. One of my favorite mixes from last year - Seo John is one of the artists I'm most excited to see evolve this year.

    The 'Currently Listening' Thread

CMV: Matt Lange's experimental/glitch/whateveryouwantocallit is better than anything dancey he's made (though In And Out of Phase is such a classic).

OUT Guy Contact - Ultraviolet Freqs EP [Craigie Knowes]

Usually, for me, the line is pretty blurred been early progressive trance and progressive house and so I kind of lump it all into the "trance" sphere. This one's maybe a bit further from trance than some other releases (the A-sides in particular IMO) but I could see it easily being dropped into...

    The 'Currently Listening' Thread

Super underrated (probably because it's a limited vinyl-only release) EP from Burial & Four Tet.

Dylan Forbes - Mind Expander (EP) [Haŵs]

Ironically that's my least favorite :P I'd say it's probably the one I find the most standard. My favorite's probably Take U Over, though it's probably the least "trancey" of them all. Ride Da Flange reminds me of old Sasha, like Magnetic North, so I've got a massive soft spot there. Adam Pits...

Dylan Forbes - Mind Expander (EP) [Haŵs]

One of my most anticipated EPs of 2021 and it turns out I misread the release date, so now it's my most anticipated release of 2022 until further notice!

DJ Life - Retina (EP) [Craigie Knowes]

    Releases April 10, 2022.

OUT Guy Contact - Ultraviolet Freqs EP [Craigie Knowes]

Not bad! Though it's pretty similar in mood to a lot of stuff that I already have in this vein. Not sure if that's a "me" problem though.

Funny mix, a progressive track with reverse bass.

    Analogue Relaxation

Love this wall-of-sound ambient! Rival Consoles always has such detailed cinematic and instantly recognizable synths. > The three artists, all pioneering their own versions of forward looking electronic music in their own works, mesh into a seamless, gauzy, and expressive trio here; a...

    The 'Currently Listening' Thread

Two albums I've been anticipating quite a bit released today: Earl Sweatshirt - SICK! Bonobo - Fragments e: Bonobo album really peters out for me after the 4th track. Earl album is great.

    Techno trancier than trance

The Voiski + Hadone EP was fantastic all around! Another Voiski gem that was an ID for forever and is finally out:

    Dub Techno / Atmospheric Techno

Lol fair point, Ness especially gets trancey. The ID at 1 hour in or I threw in my yearmix, heard it in an Adam Pits set first of all places. I'd say dub spans a wide range of styles, these are IMO a very abstract form of dub and minimal which can be a bit less noob-friendly. If you want...

    Dub Techno / Atmospheric Techno

Tozzi's IMO one of the kings of this style of atmospheric dub techno. He recently released his 3rd Deep Blue LP, and the mixed version is up for free! Really fits with how I picture "deep blue" in musical form. There are hardly any melodies in this mix and no breakdowns but I find this set...

Activa vs. Mac & Monday - A Light In The Dark [Borderline]

I made a comment saying how I was a bit underwhelmed but deleted it not wanting to sound like a negative arse. But after seeing a few other comments I'll pile on - it's got moments but the melody feels really lazy, and the breakdown basically follows the same formula of every modern uplifter...
