Always loved the Anjunadeep comps. Here's the latest one, mixed as usual by Wistenoff and James Grant, and this time 3 CD's. Is that a first? If so I think it's a good indicator how well that label is doing right now. Look at some of the YT hits on their tracks and you can see they are smashing it. Must be one of the most successful electronic labels on the planet, for sure the most successful Progressive label.

Gotta give them a lot of respect, they still kept a strong sound identity and fan base, but actually have diversified a lot over the 10 years they've been around. The early eras will still be my favourite with tracks, especially around 2011/12 with the Matt Lange tracks and early Bayer. The fun and bouncey vibes stuff like Professional Killers seems to have gone too, with them pushing more slow washy sentimental piano/vocal stuff...but still lot's of great stuff too so cant complain too much. Room 1.5 by Joesph Ray i'm still hammering from last year. Marsh tracks as well. Anyway so far Im through the first two CD's and many tracks I love.

CD1

CD2

CD3

This sucks, big time.

WHAT a snooze fest. Im soooo tired of this scandinavian nils framh/olafur arnalds hipster house. its not even house anymore! no groove, no rhythm changes, no fun, no life. just this slooow chugging and long orchestral intros and over-sentimal "dark" minor piano chords over boring slow montone beats.

I thought 4-5 of the tracks were OK , the rest is boooooooring.

Vol 3 and 4 are easily the best. It was only about the track selection, the groove and cool track transitions/mixing. exactly what mixes should be about.

So you are tired of Anjunadeep tracks like this beauty?

Anjunadeep rules big time

Cmon @Daysleeper, it's not that bad. That scandinavian washy hipster stuff makes up maybe 30% of the music, and if people are liking it then why not have some in there. For me theres already at least 10+ tracks I think are great on first listen, thats pretty good turnover. Why not share the good ones you like, rather than just 100% slay post.

Its not that great either.

Theres almost zero groove, boring transitions etc. Its not house anymore. Its this indie dance or whatever. And I promise you I listened to all of the discs, track for track, no skipping. Theres more of these "scandinavian" arctic slow-paced melancholic minor piano chords on more then 30% of the tracks. They all are so samey in pace, in mood, in everything. It just lacks in so many areas that I cant be positive.

One track had some african percs or chanting which was cool though. There you have it! ;)

This is an interesting take on an otherwise booming genre. I agree, though, it is becoming saturated. I think it's the Bicep/Lapalux/Bonobo effect. Some of the tracks in this housey, indie style became viral a couple of years ago, and now everyone is trying to copy them.
Hadn't noticed how European this whole sound is.

This is the scandinavian hipster house in a nutshell and of the albums that started all of this. This is bascially how all the modern house sounds like, especially the latest anjunadeep comps. Im hesitant to even call it house.

For me it's a label that surprises me for wrong and right reasons. There's alot of trash but some real hidden gems too.

I tend to have it on on the background when working then find myself turning the volume up when something good comes on.

CD 2 52.00mins in was my pic

Nowhere have I seen this being labeled as "house" - but then again, maybe I'm not looking hard enough for it

I've never met anyone IRL who listens to this type of music.
From a simple listen, it definitely sounds like house. Maybe it's at the intersection of deep/minimal techno and house, but it definitely is house.

@Daysleeper you would love this

Interesting, it's nothing I would over ever consider house. But then again, genres are all over the place today and I don't really care anymore

There is nothing wrong with Anjunadeep as a label because they release some nice tune every now and then. But I have to be honest, that this compilation is very dull. It just isn't for me.

I liked the sounds of the latest Anjunabeats compilation with the proggy approach of the first mix. It had more energy and groove in it.

Some nice tunes here, maybe 4-6 per CD for me. In terms of style, it is what it is. It's not going to tick the boxes for trance fans as it's chilled nu age melodic house. But good music to vibe to when you're in the right mood, have on in the background, at a BBQ etc.

Have to say were probably right actually, it was more than 30% and actually too much, too boring and lifeless. Too many great sounds missing. I was expecting CD3 to take it up a notch and be the heavy hitter or serious one of the volume but it was more of the same stuff you described and was pretty disappointed by it overall.

Yet another piece of music ruined by Daysleeper's constructive criticism.
