Wildly varying opinions here. I'd say he was tolerable until 2014 or so, trance-wise. But yeah, his best stuff came earlier in his career.

This was my tribute mix to him, nothing after 2005 i think - kind of makes my point. Cant really think many more artists where all their best stuff was so early - unless they retired haha! I suppose 'Stardust' with JMJ wasnt bad,but im really struggling to think of anything after 2005. Those artist albums people mentioned that came later, they went way too 'poppy' and steered away from proper Trance.

01 Aria - Dido (Armin van Buuren's Universal Religion Mix)
02 Armin van Buuren feat. Gabriel & Dresden - Zocalo
03 Ayumi Hamasaki - Appears (Armin van Buuren Sunset Dub)
04 Armin van Buuren pres. Darkstar - Feel Me
05 Vincent de Moor - Shamu (Armin van Buuren Remix)
06 Mark Otten vs Carrie Skipper - Time Is Serene (Armin Mashup)
07 Perpetuous Dreamer - Dust.Wav
08 Denzil & Dwayne - Force Of Habit (Armin van Buuren Remix)
09 Armin van Buuren - Communication
10 Solid Sessions - Janiero (Armin van Buuren Remix)
11 DJ Manta - Holdin' On (Armin van Buuren Remix)
12 Gouryella - Walhalla (Armin van Buuren Remix)
13 Riva - Time Is The Healer (Armin van Buuren Remix)
14 Shane - Too Late To Turn (Armin van Buuren Remix)
15 Armin van Buuren - Shivers
16 Oceanlab - Sky Falls Down (Armin van Buuren Remix)
17 Yahel - Devotion (Armin van Buuren Remix)
18 Perpetuous Dreamer - The Sound Of Goodbye (Armin's Tribal Feel)
19 Armin van Buuren - Blue Fear
20 Armin van Buuren pres. Rising Star - Clear Blue Moon

Nothing from 76 either (I don't count Communication), which I count as one of the best trance albums. As for post-2005 stuff, I can say Rush Hour if you want strictly trance. But ultimately, as the years go on the style gets more and more different from what you included in the mix. No more "classic" stuff, but good stuff regardless. He made a couple of great tracks pre-'00, and not just Communication and Blue Fear. Some proper 90s stuff.
Denzil & Dwayne - Force Of Habit (Armin van Buuren Remix)
This one reminds me of Gouryella too much to be honest.

I think i wouldve included a couple more '76' tracks if i did it again - but again thats tracks from way back then. But from 98 to the early 2000's Armin was creating some really great 'Trancy' tracks - that 'Appears' remix being a prime example...just pure entrancing stuff, quite simple productions - its just my taste i guess. I feel he lost than Trancy feel years later and went more into vocal stuff - but i guess his rise in fame and the ASOT shows had a lot to do with that. I preferred him just making tracks in his bedroom studio on Logic hehe.

Yeah not saying anything bad about the mix, but there's just so much stuff and even in somewhat different styles that you really have lots to choose from. My Armin tribute mix would be a day long haha. That's what happens when you discover a genre through an artist.

Did you check out his Misteri A stuff, as well as the B-sides to Blue Fear? Absolutely forgotten and overshadowed, but lovely. Some of his earliest trance productions, and they just feel analog, they have a certain soul and warmth to them, something we haven't heard lots of since.

His last original mixes i liked are tracks like Love Never Came and Virtual Friend. His last remix i liked was Spectrum (AVB Remix) so that's all from 2010-2013.

After that he went the pop route so tbh when i see Armins name i usually don't even bother to listen to it anymore. And somehow albums that consists of mostly collabs always look a bit cheap to me. As if no one bothered to actually make an effort.
