Future classic?! Pahahaha...the track is out of tune.
Hahahaha made me laugh out loud. So true.

And ASOT TOTY isn't the yardstick with which we measure the of quality or future classic status... Time is.

In any case, there are much better tracks in this exact style from this year, I'm sure.

What makes the track classic, globally speaking? Of course some tracks could be your personal classics, but speaking objectively??
I guess it could be a track which is massively known, has great reactions from the trance fans and got many repeats on the shows, people sings is it live on events (in case of vocal track) and finnaly, got playlisted a long time after the release (which only time well tell in this case). This track has most of it already! So you might hate it, but this could be a classic...
it could easily be a classic, even if this track doesnt get the love on this forum...cause we "trancefix guys" are like 0,1% of the trance scene afterall ;)

Happened a few time. Troy (Push Remix) has false note in bassline and vocals slightly off at some points. I still love it, but its off. Maybe I would find more examples

Well... let's compare with other recent Armin singles...

"Hold On" already has 2,5 million streams.
"Music means Love" with Steve Aoki has 2,7 million streams.
"Anita" with Timmy Trumpet 3,2 million streams.
"I should Be Loving You" 3,7 million streams.

So... for a new tune... that is just normal behavior. Those recent Armin singles all get these kind of figures. I hope those aren't all "classic" in your book.

Look, we really aren't "against" something becoming a (future) classic. Based on decades of experience it's just pretty safe to say. If you want a track that wasn't loved too much, that has a BIGGER chance of remaining a classic, it's Armin & Vini Vici - Great Spirit. That song is becoming a bit of 'cult', which not only Armin, but also other deejays might keep playing in the coming years. Same goes with "Blah Blah", which we all hate here I assume.

The tune of this thread can be compared with MaRLo - Lighter Than Air. That was tune of the year 2019. Second was "Save You" by Richard Durand. As for Armin, a good example on #7, the "Rising Star - Cosmos" track. We all have already forgotten about that right? Those won't be long-lasting classics at all.

I'm affraid Richard Durand's "The Air I Breathe" (liked on our forum) also won't last long. It's because people hunt for new stuff all the time. Tunes don't get the time to develop into a classic, even when they might have what it takes. Attention span is too small. It's way more difficult to have a track become a longterm classic now. Everything is forgotten quickly, new tracks are released one after another. Armin releases new tracks every week. Sometimes multiple. Just to stay relevant. Obviously, quality drops when releasing SO many music. So the music itself becomes less and less iconic too, making it even harder for something to last long.

Edit: As for the "hundreds of comments saying TOTY"... those people likely write "amazing remix" under "Lucas & Steve - Adagio For Strings" as well.

1 million streams right now doesn't imply 1 million streams over the next 20 years. Music nowadays has a very short shelf life. Doesn't mean it will still be loved as much in the years to come. Just you wait for the follow-up collab or the next ASOT TOTY. Some overlooked tracks are classics now, and some then-overplayed tracks are not.

For me, for a track to be a future classic (in this day and age), it has to be either unique, or one of the better/best tracks in a certain style. It also needs to be recognized as a great track, but not by overly biased people (I'm not saying you are, but lots of people who claim these things are clearly Armin/A&F fanboys). We've heard this style a million times before, what makes it stand out in any way (besides an unhealthy amount of hype)?

The word classic, in my opinion, is being used too liberally in any case, and it's not really clear to me what it actually stands for (but regardless of what it means, this track is not it). But that's for another discussion.

ASOT TOTY is virtually meaningless in the bigger picture. It's a contest based on popularity and hype - both of which are easily manipulated. Shall we look into the past winners and see what has stuck, especially compared to older tracks?

To end...

Will people say: "Ah, remember that 2021, when Armin released one of his best tracks ever with Aly & Fila and some other rando?"

Probably not.

Your "out of tune" "generic" and "nothing special" tune just won the Tune Of The Year voting just as I totally expected, because thsi track is actuatlly pure magic, absolutely deserved winner right there, Im so happy for it :)

I know your argument is that winning TOTY means nothing.....that actually aint true, it means there must be something about this track....you were wrong dear TF users....so wrong! Not the first time and not the last time...

ASOT over the years has grown into an Armin fanboys show more and more and more.

Recently we had that ASOT top 1000, and there were around a HUNDRED Armin tracks in it. So let's have a look then, at the worthy list of top 50 in 2021:

#42 Armin van Buuren ft. Sarah Reeves - Tell Me Why ARMIND (ARMADA)
#38 Armin van Buuren vs. Rank 1 - The Greater Light To Rule The Night ASOT (ARMADA)
#26 Armin van Buuren & Maor Levi - Divino ASOT (ARMADA)
#23 Armin van Buuren & Jorn van Deynhoven - Lost In Space ASOT (ARMADA)
#20 Alesso & Armin van Buuren ft. Max Wolfgang - Leave A Little Love (Armin van Buuren Club Mix)
#18 Armin van Buuren vs. Vini Vici ft. Tribal Dance & Natalie Wamba - Yama ARMIND (ARMADA)
#16 Armin van Buuren & Susana - Home With You (Rising Star Remix) ARMIND (ARMADA)
#15 Armin van Buuren & AVIRA - Sirius ASOT (ARMADA)
#12 Armin van Buuren & Giuseppe Ottaviani - Magico ASOT (ARMADA)
#8 Armin van Buuren & Davina Michelle - Hold On (Armin van Buuren Club Mix) ARMIND (ARMADA)
#3 Armin van Buuren - Turn The World Into A Dancefloor (ASOT 1000 Anthem) ASOT (ARMADA)
#1 Armin van Buuren & Aly & Fila ft. Kazi Jay - For All Time ARMIND (ARMADA)

Armin fans vote Armin. I don't think I need to say more.

@Freezer: If being number 1 prooves something is good, does that mean David Guetta really is an extremely good deejay?

I admit it, I was completely wrong. This is a future classic and the best track in ages. Thank God for ASOT and its TOTY voting. Really opened my eyes. Initially I thought this track was crap, but a lot of unbiased experts of the scene and patrons of the arts thought otherwise. 11/10

Yes, Armin has single-handedly ended the debate between the purists, the steroid junkies and the plinky plodders. I will be unmuting the terms "Armin", "twinkly fingers" and "soulless eyes" on my social accounts with immediate effect.

The only sensible answer is that all our youth in 15 years, when they have their first time with Armin, but in the style of POP, they can throw so many votes just for this S*** to win the vote. Mature fun wouldn't vote for a collab with Alesso or Davin Michelle or Sarah Reeves. Comparing to the TOP 1000, most of the notes were found as a result of overwhelming voices by young people than by mature funs.

Applause for quality of sarcasm.
