MOD: Headphones, monitors, regular speakers, amps...you name it. Discuss!

cheap headphones for listening, it's nice as if it is somewhat composed in KRK Rokit 8/8 monitors

I do not recommend hrm-6, they write about good parameters but your music will only sound good on commercial quality sound.

cool to listen to, but you will find something better cheaper

Ordered Samson SR850 open-ear headphones. Read the reviews, very excited about putting them on and listening to some quality music, seeing if they pick as many details as people say they do.

Finally arrived! First time putting them on, going straight to Junkie XL's Dark Blue Hours and The Shore to check the quality. A proper go-to tracks for the job.

Most certainly the best pair of headphones I ever put on my head. Great feel to them, sort of have a "3D" sound. They pick up details quite well, like for instance the small FX in the background I never noticed before, and the sounds are much clearer.

With trance though, the difference between well-mixed/mastered and badly mixed/mastered tracks is absolutely gargantuan, to the point of the latter being unlistenable. Very strange stuff.

For headphones I have the Audio-Technica M50x's, which are something of a meme these days as everyone seems to have them!
They work fine though, the quality is very good, though my only complaint is the bass response is a little lacking, I usually find when switching to my monitors that I have to seriously lower the gain on my sub tracks.

For monitors I use these absolute units:

These are M-Audio BX8 D3's.
No problem with the bass response on these as they have 8" subs. The subs also have a separate gain control on the rear to help remove any extra boominess that can occur when using them in smaller rooms. They do lack a bit of punch in the mid-range though as my only complaint.

The sound quality overall is superb though and they can be pushed absurdly loud if that's your thing, I'm too scared to push them any louder than about a 3rd of the way up as the walls in my room sounded like they were beginning to crack at that point 😄

my headphones break what can you advise? at a reasonable price, let's say 200E
it would be nice if it matched krk 8
for me this choice seems to be the best

After all the most important step is to know your stuff, no matter what you use. I produced most of my stuff on some crappy Hyper X gaming headset (which sounds great for listening but is shit when mixing on) but once you know your gear you know how to mix your stuff.

990s are a good choice. I can also recommend Sony MDR-7506. they last forever and sound great. Good for judging mixes. They are a bit heavy in the higher frequencys but shouldnt be a huge problem once you know them.

Christmas bonus is burning a hole in my pocket and I’m trying to talk myself out of spending £190 on an Arturia Keylab

I’ve already got a midi keyboard, but it’s just a basic 49 key M-Audio with the just the usual keys, pitchbend & mod wheel.
Would like to have some other midi control options like pads, knobs and sliders for better real time twiddling ( )

Anyone got one? Is the Analogue Lab plug-ins it comes with any good?

Got the 25 keys Minilab and it's built like a tank. I also hear good things about Arturia's keys, but can't validate it since I have no idea how good keys should feels like. Analog lab demo sounds good, but never installed since it's a preset player with limited tweakability.

Always wanted just a MIDI keyboard (M-Audio as well, one of the cheaper ones available in Serbia), but this does look very interesting. That and a Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3 are on my Santa list.
