After 2nd listen, this is incredible! Love how he works with the atmospheres, they carry the entire track. Definitely gonna listen to the entire album.

Boring!

Same mood in all his tracks. Lacking variety. Nothing sticks out.

No basslines.

Waaaay to much sub-bass rumbling all across the album. No room for individual sounds to make themselves heard.

No polyrhytms :(

Don't think it's the kind of trance (?) that warrants proper basslines, but listen to The Mercury Project anyways on good headphones or speakers and tell me it doesn't move you in any way. I really enjoyed the album, top-notch stuff. Sounded incredible in my standard-issue in-ear Xiaomi headphones.

If @Propeller doesn't object, I'd like to turn it into an album thread (since The Earthperiment wasn't released as a single).

All the tracks are available to buy individually but you could make the thread about the album if you want, even make it the album of the week. 🙂

Yes, the Mercury Project is amazing too. He produces with such high attention to detail and technical proficiency but also adds the all important emotional ingredients.

I listen to all quality trance music. And nothing wrong with cheese. This is boring prog trance.

Maybe people in this forum should stick to the subject instead of getting butthurt when their serious prog trance hero gets critique.

I'm not at all hurt, just don't think your points are valid. In another thread you were critical of Allende's new track and then gave two examples of what you considered to be better tracks. Both were generic euro trance.

It's fine to have a different taste but it seems you're just not able to appreciate "serious prog trance". Calling it boring is not valid critique.

Yeah, sure. Puma and Nu Nrg are generic! Tell me any producers that sound like them? There isnt any!

This isnt serious prog-trance dude! its not even that trancy to me tbh. im serious, not trying to downgrade it. its more of a deep "proggy" techno hybrid. with some trance elements. The only hting that makes people say basil is trance is that he lends elements of trance, but his tracks are so boring musically. Coredata is "serious" prog trance.

My points arent valid ? I had several points on what makes this boring. I just didnt say its boring. You can make serious prog trance without it being musicaly completely colorless, you know`?

Oliver prime -Radiance anyone?

I still think this doesn't at all apply to The Mercury Project and Veil, and there are far worse offenders anyways (TDB, for instance) in that regard.

This mercury project track sounds like a 2-3min build, the whole track!

Most listeners on this forum doesnt seem to care or notice anything anymore about dynamics .No one talks about it! Because it hasnt been done at all the last 15 years!!

Radiance takes you on a journey, it adds/removes elements with such precission and finesse. it istnt just the same static beat/bassline in the whole tracks with some random trancy synths being added on top of that.

There is no techno and there is no deep in that track, c'mon!.. But in some way i give you right, these kind of tracks are the reason that progressive is not an important music genre anymore, there is no serious media, magazine or anything that would cared about this kind of proggy music. Well, the future sounded better in the past..

I kinda agree with Daysleeper but disagree a bit also.

This kind of music for me is boring. Its like an intro that is made into a track with some added background sounds with only a sleight melody here and there. Nothing really stands out.

But when that is said, that was problably what Basil intended when he made this. Everyone have different taste and some people just like it more minimal and deep while others like it more melodic, some like it more dark etc.

Ive always been a fan of melodic music and i kinda find less and less music i like. I guess thats the thing nowadays, music is more industrial, deep, and minimalistic.

I can appreciate it, but must be in the mood. It does lack what is needed to grab you.

So, just out of curiosity: Do you like old prog-trance?
