Here is a Welsh song about a very big fish for you: There were two seamen and brothers, Hen King and Owen Griffiths, who were fond of beer. One summer's afternoon they returned with nets full of fish — and among them, a very big shark. They dragged the shark to Porthmadog, pitched a circus-style tent from old sails, and charged gawkers a penny a peek ... And oh, how the townsfolk flocked, for sheer terror!
Flush with fish fame and funds, our heroes hit the tafarn (the pub), swearing they'd be richer by morning ... Instead, they were quite hungover and scolded at dawn by a furious policeman who demanded the fish be buried due to its legendary stench, it stank up the whole town.
And so the shark was laid to rest — deep in the earth, dreams of fortune dashed — but their fishy tale lives on in the tavern ...

Just got back from an unforgettable night at the Music Arena of the Tollwood Festival in Munich. I saw Heilung live for the third time, this time on their Anda Fardha Tour - The End of a Journey. And this was easily the best one yet. The sound system was incredible, crystal clear and powerful. You could feel those deep drums vibrate through your bones. Even the bass was rocking the stage cameras, which made the live video on the big screens shake. 
Maria Franz is such an incredible singer. Her voice and performance is pure magic. Ethereal, commanding, otherworldly ... when she sings, it feels like the whole room holds its breath ...
The audience was a beautiful mix: Pagan folk, Metalheads, Tribal Fusion dancers, Wiccan witches ... and hardly any phones.

The support band was The Hu, a folk metal band from Mongolia. Their genre is called Hunnu Rock. And wow! They absolutely rocked. They’re headliner material for sure. So much energy and such brilliant musicianship. That throat singing and metal fusion just hits differently.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive Parysatis!
I think it does fit their art form to take long breaks, and I hope they come back even better. I would greatly prefer to catch them without metal backing (at least judging from the recordings), so I hope they will tour more by themselves. I'm not a big metal fan and the magic in Heilung for me is mainly formed by the complete lack of modern instruments, but with modern sampling and FX included in a live setting to create ethereal soundscapes.
That being said, throat singing just does something for me. Its sounds like a unique experience to hear Heilung and The Hu together for sure. Are you familiar with Batzorig Vaanchig?

Heilung is imo the best in the genre. Awesome that you managed to catch them a few times, I'm still jealous.

I do enjoy metal, depending on the band, the venue, and especially the sound system. I’ve been to quite a few metal shows, and often go to concerts without knowing the band beforehand. I love discovering new sounds live. 
If you’re not into metal, arriving 45 minutes later might be an option (depending on the venue). Support acts rarely play more than an hour. At my first Heilung concert, the support act was Lili Refrain. She left a strong impression, and I liked her performance. I’ve since seen her again together with Kalandra, who I would say are one of the best-sounding live bands I’ve heard. Since Heilung draws from the metal, Nordic, pagan, and alternative scenes, support acts from similar genres are to be expected, but that doesn’t mean they lack variety or depth. Heilung and the Hu was fantastic.
At the concert on August 17th in Dalhalla the support band will be Myrkur, which is a Danish musical project that blends black metal with Nordic folk music and other influences. It is primarily the work of musician Amalie Bruun, who will send her voice and echoes drifting through the forests of Dalarna, home of the Dalahäst ...

Yes, I know Batzorig Vaanchig ... such a powerful voice! I went through a phase where I listened to a lot of traditional music from Mongolia and Tuva. I still find it deeply impressive, though these days I gravitate more toward modern fusion styles, like what The Hu are doing. That blend of tradition and rock just hits the sweet spot for me. Isn't it fascinating how different artists interpret throat singing in such unique ways?
Thanks for the explanations! Good to know the metal bands play before Heilung and not together. I want to experience Heilung similarly to how they are in the two liveshows on YouTube, at least for the first time.
I like Nordlys a lot! Unique with the piano.
And yeah throat singing has huge potential. I'd love to hear it applied in Goa/ Psy-Trance, I think it'd work well. Someone probably already did this, but I just can't find it haha.

A Tergo Lupi recently released an album, and this tracks is one of the highlights for me:
It sits somewhere in between Heilung and Wardruna. Very atmospheric and vague, just how I like it.
I'll need to spend some more time on the album, but for now I can say it fills its niche quite well.

Pettersson & Fredriksson - Flow ...
I recently had the joy of seeing Pettersson & Fredriksson from Sweden live, and it was an absolutely wonderful concert. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and beautifully crafted ... the kind of evening that stays with you. Sharing the stage with the fantastic band Ye Banished Privateers from Sweden and Faun, the whole night became a magical blend of energy, storytelling, and Nordic folk spirit. A wonderful experience, I enjoyed this very much!

The violinist Ragnhild Hemsing plays both violin and the Hardanger fiddle. She creates a unique fusion between Italian Baroque and the folk sounds of Valdres in Norway, especially in her album Norwegian Seasons. I have just seen her and the ensemble Barokkanerne live on stage in a fantastic concert, Vivaldi meets the sounds from the North. It was the best of both worlds, really wonderful!
