Cover of Vancouver Sleep Clinic - Someone To Stay. He played it for the first time about eight years ago and I immediately fell in love with it. Since then I’ve been patiently waiting for an official release date. Then a few days ago Nick announced that it will probably never be released.
In short, he managed to track down the song's original creator, Tim Bettinson, and had him re-record the track for Chicane's upcoming album. Bettinson liked the track, but a co-writer (Al Shuckburgh aka Al Shux) not at all. This is despite the fact that it's a cover, meaning all the royalties would go to the original writers rather than Chicane.
This is just nonsense to me. Especially nowadays when people churn out AI covers left and right without even informing the original creators (or when they do ask, creators often end up greenlighting complete garbage). For once, someone tries to do everything by the book, AND the money would go entirely to the original creators, AND produces an incredible cover too (I know this is subjective and some of you here might find it cheesy as well, but to me, it's really good)... it gets rejected. It really saddens me. The exact same thing happened with GE & Ashley Wallbridge's remix of Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill.
Here is the final version of the song at 30:16 (two minutes earlier, at 28:16, Nick explains the background story I summarized above):
