The legendary Hard Trance duo will now be a solo act.

These guys are the pioneers of Hard Trance for me, never missed a single club or event in the early 2000's when they come down to Melbourne, Australia.
Our club scene was dominated by hard trance/early hardstyle and all there tunes were at the fore front helping pioneer that sound along with Scot Project, J K Walker, SHOKK and many more. Still my favourit genre to date.

Even though there sounds have evolved along the way, they always had that Cosmic gate energy (Not so much the past few years) and Bossi was the drive behind the more club driven tracks. I can see Nic Chagall going much more proggy as he was with his solo releases quite a few years ago.

Either way, they gave so many cherished memories and have done so much for the scene. All i can say is 'Thank You' and was a pleasure to meet in person.

Their old hard trance are truly good releases and exploration of space is cheesy but it's a guilty pleasure after earth mover that had a few good tracks but they started to watered down their sound during that album release. They should have called it quit after that because they ruined Carte Blanche.

I hope this doesn't turn out Dash Berlin or First State (Sander van Dien)

Could imagine playing at ASOT would be a nice farewell, but it seems like this is not the case.

Anyway, Cosmic Gate is a bit of hit and miss last 5 years. I liked their hardtrance, I liked their new style (Body of Conflict, Analog Feel. Not Enough Time etc). I even liked their bleepy big room style (Call To Arms rmx, Need To Feel LovedOnly Road rmx). And their Fly Away remix is gold.

I believe Nic Chagall was already the main producer. So would not expect a “first state scenario” for cosmic gate.

Anyhow, don’t think they visit this site, but I wish bossi a nice time whatever he’ll be up to.

Not a big fan of their duo work, but I like a few tracks. Mostly ‘Should Have Known,’ ‘Under Your Spell,’ ‘Analog Feel,’
’ ‘Body Of Conflict (Elevven Remix),’ ‘Not Enough Time,’ ‘Element Of Life,’ ‘A Day That Fades (Cosmic Gate’s AM 2 PM Mix),’ and a couple of other remixes.

As a younger guy, I was a big fan of 'E-Cutz' Cosmic Gate Style before they slowly changed their sound around 2005/2006. At first it was a fine move because after nearly six years of hardtrance god music, the project had to find a new direction naturally. But even before the 2000s ended, Cosmic Gate already faded into the generic EDM Pool and are incarnated there since then. So sorry to say but no loss.

'Their space is long explored'.

On Discogs it (for most tracks?) says Nic Chagall and Wippenberg as producers, with no mention of Bossi. So of the two Nic is the studio man.

Nic Chagall also co-produced a lot of DJ Shog material for example.
The reason is that Mr. Bossi was always the Hardtrance driver behind the project and mainly responsible for their old style. Check his solo release from the 90s.

the pairing of a DJ and a producer was a combination that guaranteed success. at the turn of the 80's and 90's, it was the producers who sought out DJs to guide them in the right directions. 'Bossi' could easily have contributed a wealth of knowledge, he was a DJ since the late 80's.

it was also natural that they moved away from 'Hard Trance' twenty years ago, by then it had become a dead genre in Germany. legendary and successful 'Hard Trance' labels ceased their operations around that time, think of 'Tracid Traxx', 'Overdose', 'Universal Prime Breaks', 'EDM', 'Fog Area'.

Honestly, this does not surprise me. I mean, he's very close to 60 years old right now, at that point you probably are thinking about maybe living a more peaceful life out of the touring and all that, so this does not come out as a big surprise to me.

About some of the stuff some people are saying here: Honestly, I don't understand the whole "Exploration of Space is cheesy" argument. I think it's a brilliant Hard Trance tune and definitely a timeless classic. As for their remix of Carte Blanche, I like it, it's not as spectacular as the original, but I like it. But I think their remix of Fly Away is much more iconic.

As for a potential change in music style, they kind of were already changing, I mean, the Hard Trance years ended more or less in 2005-2006, then we entered the Cosmic Gate 2.0. sound which lasted for the later years of the 2000's and 2019, more or less. Nowadays Cosmic Gate have adapted to a new generation of Electronic Music, and the sound they're producing nowadays is much more in line with the Melodic Techno sound and I think that's where they going to remain, I'm not seeing a significant shift in sound happening so soon.

As for Wippenberg being co-producer of the project since at least 2011, honestly, I had no idea about that, but that may explain why all of a sudden Wippenberg disappeared from the scene after 2013, but apparently he's coming back to his own projects since 2024 and he returned to his own main project already in 2025. And yes, I checked out and the last time Bossi produced something was in 2010-2011 according to Discogs.

And one thing has to be said about Cosmic Gate: They are incredibly successful case of re-invention. As @TRANCEBLASTER mentioned, Hard Trance was pretty much a dead genre in Germany by 2006, more or less. By 2006 its audience had moved on to either "regular" Trance, Hardstyle (which was becoming Nu-Style at that point) and to Hands Up to a degree, so Cosmic Gate did the right thing in changing gears and in that department they succeeded quite well because they managed to remain quite a relevant name in the Trance scene for as long as nowadays while other big Hard Trance names of their time struggled or vanished completely. Names like DJ Scot Project, Kai Tracid, Warmduscher, A*S*Y*S, Alphazone, DuMonde, S.H.O.K.K. and a few others pretty much disappeared from the scene or they became irrelevant, and nowadays, from what I've been seeing, only Kai Tracid and A*S*Y*S managed to more or less return to a certain level of prominence riding on this new Peak-Time Techno wave. But the others pretty much disappeared. I remember DJ Scot Project and DuMonde trying some sort of re-invention back in 2006-2007 and I remember De Leon from DuMonde being promoted once by Armin on ASOT back in 2011 to no success. Cosmic Gate were literally the only ones from the commercial peak of Hard Trance who actually managed to remain as relevant as ever, and in that regard you kind of have to respect them to a degree. Plus, their sound has managed to remain quite unique for the most part.

With all this said and done, I wish all the best for Bossi on his future endeavours. And I'm probably going to check out some of his solo productions from the 90's as I never really delved that much into them.

And their Fly Away remix is gold.
Body of conflict is such an incredible track though, that breakdown is a proper dancefloor breakdown just full of tension
Had to get these records out and play loud and WOW, so many memories. The fly away remix is perfection and Body of Conflict is pure tension.

Nic dropped this as ending track at ASOT - Cosmic Gate - Am2Pm - What a solid closing track, Cosmic Gate in a nutshell for there late modern style.
