Yeah it's a contradiction. I still don't trust veritasium though, atleast not compared to other scientists.
For surface level analysis/ the bigger picture in 15 mins he’s ok. For the full deal always read the articles/ papers yourself. Goes for any YouTuber really..

Fair enough.

Going back to the J Fraiman paper - looks like Florida is using it to justify the state's new stance on COVID vaccines along with their internal data. I'm wondering if they applied the same likely flawed methodology from J Fraiman and colleagues. Will be very interesting to see the outcome of Florida's public health one year from now

Is this the thread where we discuss the origins of COVID?

Looks like the US DoE also believes in the lab leak theory. This will be interesting to see play out.

I got vaccinated and I'm happy that I did - haven't had any symptoms or anything since
Thats great. I just see the biggest issue in goverments forcing people into it (as I said before). I didnt have any problems too. For me the topic is as simple as: Leave the freedom to decide to the people. Thats after all in the western world the most important factor.

What I find wierd about that statement is how the Department of Energy is somehow involved in viral research

I mean sure why not but you’d think they’d stick to things like oh I don’t know

energy 🤷‍♀️

Another wild 'conspiracy', seemingly moving closer and closer into fact @Hot Tuna

FBI chief Christopher Wray says China lab leak most likely

Astonishing that a laboratory which specializes in bat corona viruses, riddled with a history of leaks and mere miles from the origin of a bat corona virus out break, was an unthinkable idea, taboo for discussion, rubbished away by the self proclaimed 'critical thinkers' of society. How can that be explained?

100% agree - when I got vaccinated it was all my choice; I decided to do it, no one forced me to and that's what's important. People are free to get vaccinated or not and free to voice their opinions on the subject. It's up to the public to believe who they want to believe, research for themselves and draw conclusions based on that

Because people were using the lab leak theory as an excuse to be racist against Chinese people (and Asians in general, especially in the US). See: Trump's Chinese virus. The lab leak theory was also closely associated with the malicious "intentional" release of the virus instead of an accidental release.

Nonsense.. Trump said it came from china, which his numerous detractors then quickly spun into “trump is racist against Chinese people”. For simply stating facts in his usual, blunt, dumb manner 😄

which is also why they so quickly dismissed it as a valid option.

the “evul” right was simply first to coin it,

therefor it must be wrong and even if it’s not we can’t allow it to be.

Had it been the other way around the right would have called the left Taiwan-war mongering globalists. It’s simply, petty, screechy American (political) tribalism. And to me a form of beautiful self destruction in case of US’s msn

every lie is a debt to the truth, sooner or later that debt is collected, and higher the lie count, the higher the bill.

How can you be so sure of the lived Asian-American experiences after Trump tweeted about the "Chinese virus"?

How about the fact that Trump's tweets fueled Anti-Asian hate? Or do you just believe hate crimes are not real? That the study is coming from a university and the article is from ABC, therefore it must be liberally biased?

Because “lived experiences” are a non-metric. By that mode of thinking the kkk/ Spencer’s “white genocide” nonsense is also valid of their lives experiences.. you can justify anything with that.

As for the article: no link to the actual study, just some quotes from an epidemiologist (who’s qualified in hate crime stats how?) and yes. ABC news are definitely on the biased trump detractors camp.

Trump didn’t target Asians in any of his rethorik. He targeted China.

or as trump puts is: “TZaina”

I don't think you're remotely qualified to speak for Asian Americans. If ABC is too liberal for you, how about LA Times and Time?
Seriously, you're smarter than this. You should be capable of thinking that, yup, a leader like Trump calling Coronavirus the "Chinese virus" is going to embolden his supporters (which btw do overlap a lot with racists) to be xenophobic against Asians.

edit: doesn't matter if Trump is technically right or not, what matters is that his words led to others causing actual harm against Asian Americans (whether physical or financial), and (to tie back to this thread) made everyone dismiss the lab leak theory

Then you, or ABC. Or Times or whoever aren’t remotely qualified to speak for Trump or his supporters either and “what goes on in their minds or lived experiences”

you can’t have it both ways.

We can only go by the facts, and the facts are that trump didn’t target or mention the Asian community at all no matter how much they/ your team try and project that on him or his administration. Period.

you, and/or certain “liberal” media outlets want it to be true, because you simply hate the man. This to me is a schoolbook example of racebaiting “It came from China” -> therefor go harass United States Citizens with Asian origins.

gimme a break please, how far can you stretch something before it becomes absurd.

and no, it does matter if he was technically right or not. This isn’t the first time Chinese wetmarkets or (plausible) lableaks caused a world wide pandemic where millions died. The previous WHO administration tapped them on the fingers multiple times before Tedros took over and went soft on them. Words matter yes, so does the Truth.

how many pandemics would you like to have before you start placing facts over feelings/ petty political tribalism?

@Hensmon

not really ur thread, I know,

but what do you as a UK citizen make of the 100,000 leaked whatsapp messages obtained by the telegraph concerning the COVID policies over there on the other side of the pond?

I honestly haven't even checked what's going on @jetflag . I know it involves Matt Hancock. A lot easier to pass on UK news when you don't live there. All I know is that this government in the last 10+ years has been so morally abject and staggeringly incompetent that I don't even bother tuning in to the latest disgrace of the hour anymore. There's been simply too much for too long. It's really been quite depressing for me, watching your country be decayed from the inside, yet protected consistently by the news and papers we have. Whatever the story, I'm sure its more of the same criminal and incompetent behavior that is now second nature for the modern Tory party.
