I like it but first impressions not as much as IMF/Enigmatic. I'm sorry to be that guy but the mixdown sounds more modern and not as good as your first EP. Percussion is what i'm getting at, and maybe the synth too. It sounds like a Borderline release in that way, bit robot like or thin. I didn't get that feel from IMF. It's subtle but it makes a big difference for me.

Are the highs a bit too harsh for the rest of you guys? Once all the elements come together, seems like it's just a bit too much. Not sure if it's mixing or mastering, or my headphones + the fact that I haven't listened to uplifting in a while.

Anyhow, before this was even out, IMO it would be hard to follow the footsteps of Enigmatic and In My Fantasy, which were truly magnificent. They used the old sounds, replicated the vibe completely, all while being stunning music pieces overall.

The latter is exactly what I'm not feeling here. The ideas, for me, are just not there; I like everything except for the main melodies. And I admit I might be asking too much, and people do seem to enjoy it, and it's still definitely a very good track.

its straight-forward and you just dont like the mainlead melody probably. Its a little "cleaner" than imf/enigmatic maybe. Just compare it with imf again. the bass/kick in imf sounds incredibly muted. Not sure whats really that different in structture or musical ideas to that one btw. They are quite similar structurally, imf is just a litte longer and has some more fills. I dont feel that anything is really that harsh either, heard much worse. The hats sound a bit sssss and a little clinical maybe. But it sounds pretty balanced to me.

I completely agree on what you're saying mate. I can honestly say it's not easy at all to come up with another track that tops a track that has become popular.
In My Fantasy for me is probably the track I'll never top, but I'm ok with that.

Usually when someone creates a track that caused a little bit of a storm/become popular, what the artist then does the next time is create another track using all the same sounds but with a different progression and melody and 99% of the time, its crap lol.
So for me what I'm doing is trying to not go off my past tracks and take each track I do with a completely blank canvas and new sounds, that way I'm not just churning out crap based off a previous track, if that makes sense.

I will be honest, creating a track is hard at the best of times,...creating a track that's trying to authentically create old skool nostalgia is even harder and I'll be the first to admit I may not get it right everytime.

The mastering is also done by me majority of the time. (IMF/Enigmatic too).
The reason for this is in the past I've used other engineers to master and it's been treated as a modern track on the basis of louder = better.

Your mastering and end product for your first EP sounded nicer than what PURE has done here. PURE may not be the main culprit for plastic sounds but its been creeping in more and more. I could be told IMF is from 2002 and believe it. In comparison I think I can easily tell this is from 2020's if tested. Some will say its no big deal, but I like what I like. Still rate your track though, for what it's worth.

Another great track from Nathan,def better that 99% of the stuff released today. Love all the little old skool nods - some real Thrillseekers/Transa vibes here....anyone who is moaning about the mastering really is pathetically nitpicking. Lets just concentrate on what great throwback productions hes making here. This wouldnt have sounded out of place on something like Gatecrasher Wet.

I would agree this one has a more modern sound but I am just happy with have tracks like this being produced in 2023.
