I'll fire the first shot myself: Its too chaotic/ needs cleaning up of all the elements in the mix/ sequence

I've only heard this on phone speakers, so I'm not getting the full spectrum of sounds yet.

I think the section starting at 3:28ish with the high pitched bell? sound is a bit chaotic, so yes that would benefit greatly from cleanup.
The little breaks at around 3:58 and 4:36 are very nice.

Good use of percs. Definitely gives the track a "tribal" feel.

In terms of originality/creativity, I think it legit sounds like something that could have been released by Istmo Music circa 2005-2006. Very impressive that you could pull it off today, as if it were made by a South American electronic music producer. I'm excited to hear the completed work/final master of this track!

Theres a nice amount I am liking about this already, even in this rough state. Percs are way to chaotic and not used carefully though (kick is good). The tribal elements should be introduced in, taken out, be vaired, be spacious. Even within the first 15 seconds I feel the rhythm is off, with too many rapid drums competing (although I like the pace). It happens again after the break, its not right. Baseline fucking good. Rapid drum rolls before a build are sweet.

The glitchy/scratchy detail noise is also not the right sound for me either in its current state. Acid noise instead? Maybe used a little less. Love the other bubbly light synth in the background through, its so nice.

Chant works well but wouldnt say its that pronounced or has much identity in the track for me to consider it a unique idea of Trance.

Agreed, next step aside from cleaning up the percs and deleting a couple of elements is to get my hands on a longer shaman vox that is a contiuous and more intricate part of the mix. maybe starting off and ending with it

problem is its hard to get your hands on something decent and still royalty free. Might have to end up asking the local Peruvian buskers to lend me a hand

thanks, yeah I agree its distracting, that one's going out.

As you mentioned, there's that chaotic factor about it, especially the percussion.
I feel like you've been drawn into the same cycle that I do sometimes of trying to create a percussive groove that somehow descends into trying to fill every 16th note with something for a reason you cant quite explain 😄
Definitely editing that down to give the groove some breathing space and allowing some syncopation/call and response to occur could be the way forward here.

I actually think cutting the track speed down by 5 BPM or so could help here. You're either going for pumping and frenetic or that 'head nod' groovy and sometimes slowing the track a bit can aid heading towards the latter and the superfluous elements stand out more (for me anyway)

The core idea sounds great though, lovely deep breakdown to give variation to the groovy drop!

Interested to hear where this is headed to!

Listen to this track @jetflag, from 1:08 onwards, check the use of tribal elements. I love it. They really help move the track a long, but used very spaciously and lots of sexy reverb/repeating. Some smaller details too if you pay attention. I think the ethnic feeling nature or percs can be achieved with very little.

Even the 'regular' percs have a groove that kind of feels rhythmically tribal, without using organic drums and what not. Its not really tech-trance but its kind of close.

Fucking hell...I could give you feedback but I feel like I would be nitpicking. Absolutely love the ideas. Fuck the chaos, it doesn't even matter. A perfect ~2001 ASOT track. Armin would've played this back then for sure.

Heard this again with proper headphones.

I think the idea behind the high-pitched sound at 3:28 is good. Maybe you can find an alternate sound, or just lower the volume slightly (5-10%?). But honestly I wouldn't change a thing.
I wouldn't slow down the track or get rid of any of the percs. I like how it immediately jumps into quick tempo + interesting percs. If you want to add a longer melodic intro, that's fine, but I think the percs and tempo are fine as they are. There's nothing wrong or off about the rhythm.

The ambiance is good. It's proper "trance to chill out to"

Things I noticed this time around:
Abrupt transition at 3:54

More acid could help. You can honestly binge the "trance to chill out to" thread for ideas - many of those haven't been explored since 2005 or so.

Why is this "tribal organic ethnic bingo bango" samples such a thing among trance "veteran" trance listeners? :p I feel like this has been something many would go to and feel lke they created something totally original, when in reality its not. Its almost has the opposite effects for me now.

It has almost become a bit cliché the last 10-15 years. Sure if you can make somethingn interesting with it. I´d prefer just creating a track that is more musically interesting overall.

This SOUND pretty good, I dont mind it starting busy right away. You have a good ear for when to change gears so to speak and i notice the effects. Although i do find the induvidual rhythms and how they all feel together a bit too copy paste/template/generic tbh. It feel like you just throwed in samples you are familar with without a deeper thought about it all. Like you have the quite banging samba techno smashing stuff, a bit of jonas steur and is that the trommelmachine sample in background also?

because its sexy ;)

nah honestly this track was an experiment for me in reference to making more "local" ethnic trance. and seen as Peru is quite rainforesty etc tribal organic ethnic bingo bango felt like a good place to start.

I´d prefer just creating a track that is more musically interesting overall.
sure, but what do you mean precisely by "musically interesting"?

Don't get me wrong by the way, Love/Appreciate the feedback but I sometimes feel a bit like a cook getting to hear "i would like it if the food taste differently" yeah, ok.. but what is that in your mind/ taste buds precisely.. More flavor? more texture? different savory levels? etc.

Structure wise ..I've actually been thinking of ditching the entire formualic sequencing for this one. Every single trance track and their mom is somewhere between 6 or 10 minutes to fit the DJ- set structure why is it that we never hear a trance track that is 30 minutes long? Is it possible to create a single piece that'll put you through a trance journey from start to finish? So thats defo one thing i'm going to try next. if you or anyone else has a (specific) addition on top of that, would love to hear (y)

it feel like you just throwed in samples you are familar with without a deeper thought about it all.
hahaha spot on. 😁 yup pretty much, thats how it starts.. I don't know how about the rest of the producers reading this but I can't work a tabula rasa and make a "masterpiece" chat that. Goes for most creative things really whether is architecture, music or cooking or what have you.

If you want to try and create something new it usually works well to just throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks

cheers!

things to recycle in the next ittiration so far:

- ambient stuff
- kick/bass combo
- (cleaned up and more clever) percs

things to remove/change

- chaotic whitenoise percs
- overall structure/sequence of things
- current nonsensical counterpoints (like 3:54)
- ringmodulated sound after the break

Things to add:
- acid
- longer, more fitting peruvian indian esq chants

Things to experiment with:
- peruvian flutes/instruments
- original trancy melody element things that i have no idea about what they're going to be yet

For this kind of tribal Trance,il always think of one producer - Praha. This has a slight feeling of that style,i like the ideads you have in it,my personal opinion would be to lower the BPM and maybe just have that tribal loop a bit less 'chaotic' hehe,it almost sound out of time in places. But as i said some good ideas here as a building block for a fresher style than all the generic stuff out there.

Slightly off-topic, but if you ever make a Mexican-themed trance song you should look into the acid cabaret sound of the late 1990s/early 2000s. This was Mexican electronic music at its inception, fully home-grown. Heck, you could incorporate some of their ideas in your song now (but then you'd get a weird mix of Peruvian and Mexican)
I guess it's still a good reference point for what truly sounds authentic, and how you can blend Latin rhythms with electronic music (without resorting to just reggaeton hahaha)
