It sounds cool to have a track with 24 producers. But does it make sense? I mean... did Sin Sonic select a percussion loop or something? Did Peter Santos select the snare? It's hard to imagine how it actually worked...
As being 1 of the participants, thought to open up, how the project actually worked..
So initially Ferry posted 2 raw melody ideas, the riff and the lead. From those, all who took part to the competition, made their own full track or just a single part / some parts of the track, like bassline, pad, beats, etc.
From all participants, Ferry chose parts from 22 of them, that would be included in the final track, sent in as audio stems.
So basically we provided the parts, that Ferry put together as a whole track.
So each element you hear in the track was done by 1 person, not all of us together. Well except of the 2 melodies basically, that Ferry composed at first and the persons who provided the stem for those, could have done some changes to them, so those would have been worked by 2 persons.
I actually was able to meet Ferry after I was informed about my selection to be in the final version of the track. And I did joke to him about the number of people involved, with the old saying "too many chefs in the kitchen", that hopefully it won't be the case. Heard the track later and it was clear, that there was only 1 chef in the kitchen, with 22 ingredients in the project.
Personally, it was a huge honor to work with Ferry (and the others), who has been most likely the biggest influence in my own music. And as a project, this was something that has never been done before, as far as I know. And that makes the project really cool.
Here's a breakdown of the track by Ferry;
