Fred Again Feat Romy - Strong [Young]

Ive been kinda bored with music the last few years hence why i dont post much anymore. Everything and anything sounds the same. I do browse a bit on soundcloud though, and almost 3 years ago now someone shared a song by Fred Again. It was the first song he posted online.

It was something special about it. He was sampling the voice of his female friend talking about a trip they had together to Tokyo and made it into a song. After that ive been following this guy and pretty much checking out whatever he makes.

There is a lot of stuff i dont like that has to be said, but what i do like is that he is original, especially the way he is using samples. Also hes super talented. He plays piano, he can sing, he can mix the beats live. He use that pad thing that i dont know the name of a lot lol.

Anyhow this song is taken from a set he did for Boiler Room in London a couple of weeks ago. A set that has basically exploded and might sooner or later be the most viewed boiler room set of all time if it doesnt slow down soon. 3,5 million views in just 3 weeks.

I feel kinda hipsterhappy that this guy made it and ive been following him since the very start hehe.

It's a fantastic set and a great tune. I posted it myself in the Modern Oldskool Trance thread as I think it has a lot of elements of an old skool progressive trance tune. Definitely a bit of Oceanlab in there for me.

Dont like it that much sorry haha. i dont fint i particulary original either. The drums are very sparse and stock-sounding, repetitiv even. The vocals are quite nice, but the music around is just basic to my ears...one-note melody with not much else to offer...

Maybe i didnt write the first post so good. But yeah the song with Romy is not something i would call original as well. I like it but its not groundbreaking or anything. Its the closest thing he made to ''trance'' and thats why i posted it.

But as an artist Fred Again is very original, atleast to me, ^^

I would consider him a modern day up and coming Daft Punk kind of guy, because of the sampling etc.

Wanted to check if anyone is discussing Fred Again on the forum and found this. Same as Bluemoon, I think his music is a breath of fresh air and I like listening to it while I work.

I would rather listen to his mixes at festivals than all those boomtsy-boomtsy generic songs.

been listening to Fred Again..'s boilerroom sets and must say i'm both impressed and entertained.

As for the track, yup. Like it.

I mean really.. just compare this song to the average "vocal trance" song of established trance producers of these days. It's just on another level. And it comes from a house producer.

And that Boileroom set is nuts (it's not really my style too, but I recognize the talent). I agree about the breath of fresh air that he's bringing with him

I recently read his Wikipedia information. I think it has recently been updated with lots of information because of his album release.

It appears hes not just some simple bedroom producer who just made it out of nowhere.

Early life and education[edit]​

Fred John Philip Gibson was born in Balham, South London on 19 July 1993.[6] He attended the independent boarding school Marlborough College in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England between 2006 and 2011.[7][8]

Gibson is known for the range of artists he has worked with including Skrillex, FKA Twigs, Swedish House Mafia, BTS, Baxter Dury, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Burna Boy, Headie One, Halsey, Eminem, Octavian, The xx, Underworld, Perrie Edwards, Brian Eno and Stefflon Don.[9][10]

Aged 16, Gibson joined an acappella group at Brian Eno's studio in London, who was his family's neighbour at the time. [11][12][13] In 2014, he collaborated as co-producer and songwriter with Eno and Karl Hyde on their two project albums Someday World and High Life (songwriter only).

In 2018, George Ezra's song "Shotgun", co-written by Fred, reached Number 1 in the charts, remaining in the top 3 for 12 consecutive weeks. Later, in the same year, Gibson was also credited with co-writing "Solo" by Clean Bandit, featuring Demi Lovato, and gained further success with Rita Ora's song "Let You Love Me".[14]

Gibson is credited with writing and/or producing 12 of 15 of Ed Sheeran's 2019 No.6 Collaborations Project, with credited songs featuring for a total of 14 weeks at Number 1 in the charts.[14] Fred has continued to write and produce songs for Ed Sheeran, along with the likes of Stormzy, Swedish House Mafia, and more.[15][16]

Gibson won Producer of the Year at the Brit Awards 2020.[17] He is the youngest producer to ever win the title. The win was voted for by a group of industry-wide A&R executives and was then selected by the Music Producers' Guild.[18][19]

Somehow I haven't checked this guy out yet, although I've seen this post a few months back.
Well now I'm listening to that Boiler Room set and it's very impressive so far! Loads of talent on display.

He takes some elements that I normally did not enjoy in music and manages to create something meaningful and deep out of them.
Strong is a really touching song.

This set is something special for sure, vibes wise it's somewhere in the direction of Bicep, Burial and a lil Mat Zo.
Strong is indeed reminiscent of the old Above & Beyond.

This guy is going places, no doubt about that.
