Genix is an interesting producer for me, with some cool ideas and synths, and the style you could say its the best manifestation of the Trouse/2.0 Trance sounds into something more respectable. Some of his tracks not for me but a bunch are very good. For these reasons I am excited about hearing his album.

The first single is nice but not really my flavour really. Will update this thread when the album lands.

Some more tracks from the album. So far it seems like it could be a more house driven record than Trance.

'Numb' partners Genix with BBC Radio 1 supported singer-songwriter Natalie McCool, also known as LYCA. The Liverpool based multi-instrumentalist received acclaim for her 2016 album 'The Great Unknown', championed by the likes of Q, The Sunday Times, Huw Stephens and Alice Levine.

The first single taken from '199X', 'Numb' with LYCA is out now. '199X' will be released on the 10th of September and is available for both vinyl and digital pre-order now on the Anjuna Music Store.

A love letter to rave culture, '199X' is the debut artist album from Anjunabeats stalwart Damion 'Damo' Houchen, also known as Genix.

The LP is a departure from the sound Genix is best known for. Through the late 2000's and 2010's, Genix was well known for his textured, melodic take on trance. He caught the ear of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, securing releases on both Armada and Vandit. Genix arrived on Anjunabeats in 2010 and immediately became a mainstay in Above & Beyond's sets with tracks like 'Aura', 'Destinations' and 'Black Water' (the latter written with regular touring partner Sunny Lax).

From those origins, Genix has blossomed into a mainstay in the trance scene. As his stature grew, so did his approach to his music:

"There have been so many influences [on my sound]; DJs, producers, events and the thousands of records I've bought over the years. I don't try to be any one genre, some people think I produce less trance sometimes, but if you have followed my career from the start it's always had tech influences. I think any producer should stick to the sounds they love, if it makes me jump out of my seat when I'm making it, then that's all that really matters.

My music is a representation of my personal taste, it's my expression and my passion being put into sound. It really is an art and I just try to be myself, not a genre, not a certain BPM, just Genix." - Genix

His Anjunabeats Worldwide 09 mix championed these ideas. It was an iTunes #1 dance album that took us from slow burning progressive to fiery techno, landing somewhere between a Global Underground mix and a classic Gatecrasher compilation.

2020's 'The Light' was a bullish electro-edged anthem alongside label mate Grum and hit number one on Beatport's Melodic Techno chart. DJ support from Etienne De Crecy and Hi-Lo (Oliver Heldens) followed.

A polished DJ, Genix has performed around the world; festival stages at Creamfields (UK), Tomorrowland, EDC, ABGT250 and 350, to more intimate club affairs; Ministry Of Sound, The Hollywood Palladium, Warehouse Project.

These shows don't live up to the heights of playing 5,597 metres above sea level though, where in April 2019 Genix set the Guinness world record for the highest land DJ set, hosting a party at Everest Base Camp.

Will be out 10th September. There were previews for the album tracks on Beatport but it's since been taken down. It is indeed more focused on House and Techno but there are some Trance tracks in there too :)

Not sold on these just yet. Not terrible by any means but not really close to my favorite tracks by him. Produced nicely I will say. Higher and Higher is a good friday night Radio 1 kind of track you can put on before heading out. Probably fun to dance to, bit repetitive tho. Hoping for bit more creativity in the other tracks.

Libre synth is really reminding me of some older track, cant put my finger on it though.

That synth I can't put to a track, but the baseline is like a slow version of dance valley theme by system f.... that's all I hear.

I gave it a couple of listens. Not bad but not that great in my opinion. Found his Trance/Techno style much more interesting than a lot of the House driven tracks found on most of the album. This style might be the true definiton of Trouse. Not the farty stuff we had around 2014-2018 (Trance 2.0), that never felt like house at all really. This can be very housey in structure and feel, but it still has big synth moments, mini breakdowns/drops and vocals most similar to Trance. Yes, this is Trouse but I don't use the terms in a derogatory way. There are couple of Trance tracks which i'll put below.

Pro's about this album is that its got some good variation, the production is that Anjuna type of polished and there are lots of oldschool kick backs, like stabby piano riffs and simple diva vocals. Some chunky drops and head nodding vibes too. You can imagine him playing 6/7 of these tracks in his set at a club and it working very nicely. Unfortunately a lot more cons for me; all tracks about 4 mins (or less) which means no real tension or interesting musical journeys can be found. Having 4 mins for a Trance track does it no favors. It's BBC Radio 1 Fight night 8pm ready stuff. Even with the short length everything still feels a bit repetitive. Once you hear the first bunch of bars and main riff thats gonna be it for most of the track. Lots of big synth work but can come across generic to me. I cant really pick any track as a favourite. 6/10.

These are the most Trance orientated track
