Wanted to see if people think having a way to filter the upcoming releases section is a good idea. The filters would sit at the top of the section and when pressing one, you would see results only from that genre. I.e select uplifting, its only those types of releases. I see two ways of doing it...
1. Like flairs on reddit, a mandatory field is added to the thread creation where you must select a genre. GIven that tracks and releases can be genre ambigous or mixed genre, the thread creator could select 2 or maybe more. They would choose from a preselected set of genres. Those might be; trance, progressive house, uplifting, breakbeat, ambient, classic, house/techno, psy, tech.
2. To keep things more broader and more simple, with less filters, the filtering could be based on scene. Mainstream, Midstream and Underground. That way If I only want to see underground stuff, regardless of genre, I can do that. I never loved the word Midstream, so maybe 'conventional'... or something else?? Activa for example fits in here, as would Thrillseekers, Enigma State etc
Of course there would have to be some definition of what artists/tracks fit in those scenes. It's not always obvious or agreed upon. Same for genres. Therefore the tagging would not be policed, analyzed or taken too seriously. It's just a good but imperfect way of providing better organizing in that section.
The third option is to keep things the way it is.
