He is not a troll for sure, I must admit that he has some good points, but well, he is stuck somewhere in the past and he just cannot live with the fact that trance has changed. And instead of accepting it he just cry and bully around how most of the releases are bad, steroid etc....

Sound advice. Maybe it really is time to hang up the headphones and give up on modern trance for a couple of us overly critical users.

But then again, if that makes me miss something akin to Laia's Daydream, or Elements of Nature, M(You)Sic in its entirety... I would hate myself for it. Trance has much more to offer than mediocrity these days, but it's unfortunately very rare.

Will hopefully give the tracks a listen one of these days, just so I'm not completely off-topic though. Don't take any part of my post as criticism of your body of work, just some general statements regarding the discussion. Would love to hear what you think of that, as a producer, in the appropriate threads.

A well articulated response and one I have not taken personally. :)

Music is subjective and we cannot expect everyone to like the same thing. I am very open to criticism and pointers. However, I like the choice in language to be of a constructive nature. Some of the comments I see are a dig at artists from some people.

Also, just on this release - it is one from March last year and is not up and coming. ;)

in further defense of @Daysleeper et co.

I find that the what I'll dub the "Connaisseur" crowd here does 2 things for me as a musician. 1 they subject me to a huge pool of to me unknown classics, some of which I find genuinly inspiring when sitting down behind my DAW, 2 their critique is often sharp, merciless and helps to improve.

Now you're right in that music is ultimatly subjective, so when it comes to criticism (some of which I even directly invite by sending over a WIP) I wield a dual approach. if its technical, I usually try to follow it to the letter (to much treble, lacking midrange, over compression etc.) when its artistic and things like "it doesn't have a soul or feels to me" I balance it with what I "feel" when i'm listening to it and then make a descision to alter something or not.

my 2 cents.

I get that - makes sense, but often, a comment such as "too many steroids" and a signature with "no steroids" would imply that a particular style is not favoured.

@Daysleeper has made some very valid points on some tracks, I've noticed. Other times, the points have been down to taste, not feedback. He's well within his right to as well, but the issue I had was the "why release - just because", when I had explained the track was done at a time I did not have a studio built and produced it on headphones in memory of my friend who had recently passed away (this release was from last year, BTW).

The OP stated too much treble and I agreed with that too. Now the studio is built, it's a bit easier. ;)

This is not a witch-hunt in any way, shape or form. Myself and Daysleeper have spoken via PM and he has every right to voice an opinion. I just felt that on this post and others unrelated to me, there is/was an element of decorum lacking. It could be that English is a second language though. I don't know.

Wishing you all the best. :) (y)

Glynn Alan you are a gentleman. I like your music even more now. I'd read that this track was dedicated to a friend who'd passed away and had helped you out a lot in your career. A touching story indeed.

This track and your other tracks are full of nice ideas. It doesn't matter to me too much that the treble is too high when you've told a nice story with your music. And this track does tell a story. Limitless is superb, Bermuda Triangle pretty good too and the other side of the line another good one. Keep up the good work and look forward to your future releases. 👍

Just going to say that I felt totally identified with this comment. @GlynnAlan keep up the good work, I have thoroughly enjoyed “Limitless” and “Other Side of the Sky” quite a lot this year.

Ah, I remember the Starpicker remix! Enjoyed it when I heard it back then and even now I think it's pretty nice. Much more cohesive as a whole compared to the original (which feels like a collection of ideas, like it's not finished, musically). The treble in the original was a bit obvious, but as always, musical ideas take precedence in my criticisms. I appreciate the dedication, the meaning and intent behind the track, but musically it just doesn't resonate with me. That said, just because you're a member of this forum, I will give your future tracks a chance when they get posted.
