Ground beef burek, with yoghurt. Stuff of dreams. It's basically onion, meat and some spices wrapped up in phyllo/filo dough and baked in an oven. There's lots of variations depending on the stuffing (pizza, apple, pumpkin, cherries, potatoes, spinach etc), but my all-time favs are ground beef and cheese variations.

Looks almost exactly like this:

Catfish stew. Not bad, could've been better with some spices.

Gouda-filled pirozhki. Pure fat, dough and melted cheese. Comfort food.

Looked a little something like this:

Sarma.

One of the finer Serbian/Balkan dishes. This is the Serbian, non-gourmet, homemade, people's version: pork mince and rice with some spices, wrapped in sour cabbage (similar to sauerkraut) leaves, stacked inside a pot and cooked. Can be cooked with smoked meat or sausage (which improve it). There are lots of variations, depending on meats/fillings (pork, beef, mutton/lamb, goat, vegan), wrappings (sour cabbage, grape leaves), methods of preparation; would love to try them all.

Went to the store today to buy pesto, but they were all out, so a certain truffle & Parmigiano Reggiano sauce caught my eye. Let's try it, I thought, it can't be that bad.

I cooked penne rigate, mixed it with the sauce and sprinkled some Grana Padano on top. It was that bad. GP saved it for sure, otherwise it's horrendous - edible but just not very nice. The stench that remained in the room after eating it was even worse.

And what's REALLY bad is that I still have half the sauce remaining in the fridge. Might have to experiment with cream or garlic to make it at least somewhat tasty.

We recently had some people actually killed for trying to gather truffles - it's become a new thing, it's not cheap and everyone wants a piece of the action, so the mob moved in. People got killed FOR THIS??
