Signed up for the Business Run competition in April. Lots of companies competing in a 5k run. It's in April. On one hand, I can't wait, but on the other, I haven't even started training.

5 km is perfectly doable in 2 months m8, just be sure to

1: have good/get good shoes and don't fuck up your knees (like i did)
2: have a proper run scedule up to 6 km (instead of 5)
3: practice your dabbing in front of the ladies when you cross the finish line

Thanks for the advice (point 2 I completely missed)!

As far as training goes, just need to break through the fatigue, so to say. Let's say after 2 km I get tired and have to stop. If I stop, the progress is slow. But if I push through it and run more (you always can), then the progress is faster.

try slowing down instead of full stopping. as in, slow your pass/tempo but try to keep (awkwardly slow) running if you can.

Going back to the gym regularly is just incredible, in terms of how good it makes you feel. Connecting your mind back into your skeleton, muscles and awakening it every day is a complete game changer for energy and mental health. And of course watching it transform is very satisfying (not that I have any great muscles). It changes your life.

Its been about 1.5 years since I went, but so glad im back. I wanted to start months before, but when you are out of the loop the idea feels so unappealing, I literally had 0 motivation to go, even though I wanted to go so badly and get strong again. After 2 weeks of going every morning I had no problem with going, after 4-6 weeks I look forward to it and now after 2+ months it is one of the highlights of my day. All you have to do is get the first 2/3 weeks out the way. Even if you train for just 20 mins casually that's fine. Its the habit of turning up that builds (quickly) and then its easy.

Yoo my first week back after a long pause since September or so. Can't say it feels great since I am numb from getting up so early, but it does feel nice to do something great for yourself. I am not even enjoying the grind as I usually do, I'm just doing it. Once I get my sleeping habits in order, it will surely be better.

The protein though... My stomach doesn't seem to like it.

1.5 month in, 2 sessions missed due to illness.

I am not so high on it, but I am looking at it like work, something I just gotta do. I also feel guilty in advance for missing a session so I always make that extra effort to wake up at 5 AM and still go. I go to the gym at 7, train until 8, then take a shower and go upstairs to my office (which is extra neat!) to make coffee and start work.

What's suffering is my sleep and my life, in general. I try to go to bed at 9 PM, but usually don't fall asleep until 10 or 11, sometimes even at midnight. But even though I might sleep less than usual, the combination of exercise + coffee fuels me with energy for the day and I don't feel tired at all.

I also lose quite a bit of awake time; from ~5 until ~8:30 AM I am useless to do anything productive, and after work I am just beat to do anything mentally challenging. It's a bit exhausting but hey - just something I gotta improve.

Weight has ballooned up 116kgs not happy this is the heaviest I have been. I have been the same after I had a surgery on deviated septum and having a number of other health issues.

I nearly touched 100kg last month. Dropped to 89 last week

trick: cut all sugar and carbs

I've cut sugar from my diet dude, as in no soft drinks and I only eat rolled oats but very small amount and that's with water and fruits

I am struggling with my mental health atm, I get flashbacks of events I have had to face at my previous workplace they sure did a number on me and venting does help but I am not able to cry or laugh like I used to it feels different and hollow as well. Imagine working at the previous job and all 11 of the corporate people giving you this evil looks like the one that bilbo gave to frodo and you absorbing that and still feeling the effects of it in your eyes even after all of these years have passed. That will haunt me for the rest of my life.

So exercising only offers me a temporary feeling of emotions but after that wears off the numbing feeling starts to creep up again and I can't feel like I used to it's there but it's not there fully if that makes sense. It feels like a part of me has been stripped. That's aside from the flashbacks and inability to cry fully or laugh.

I can relate to this. The symptoms of my clinical depression 3 odd-what years back have faded to the point where they're not only manageable, but at times ignore-able.

however: it never goes back to the point where you feel like you used too. Especially not when you don't have things around to do.

Have a knee injury for what feels like almost 2 months now. A soccer session + powerlifting were the likely culprits, yet even after little activity it didn't get better. Playing soccer in the meantime once every 1-2 weeks didn't make it better though. I was hoping return to activity might make the ligaments and tendons a bit stronger, but soccer is probably a bit too extreme. Need to rehab it at the gym for sure, possibly even visit the doc.

Of course, went for some 5-a-side this week too, the knee is starting to feel much better. I started walking more this week, so maybe this has something to do with it. But anyways, pleased with the progress. A week's break and will defo start rehabbing it at the gym.

Squatted 150 kg for 4 reps in 1 set @ RPE 9. Personal record broken.

Will probably repeat that next week (instead of go up) to fix some form issues.

So last year I stopped 3 times to take a walk during the race because I couldn't go on anymore, and the time was 28:46. I didn't run for a long time, all my physical activity was playing soccer 1h a week, and that was it.

So since then, I hiked a lot, I played soccer almost every week, I lifted a lot (broke PRs)... But I didn't run at all.

And for the first time in my life, I ran for 5K without stopping, through sheer tyranny of will. Previous "record" was half that.

That amounted to a time of 30:09.

I was expecting a better time compared to last year, to be honest, because I was in better shape, I didn't take any breaks and I thought I ran faster.

Oh well. Gave it my all and it felt great, at least to accomplish what I never could, even when I was running regularly. Maybe will try to do it more often, at least.
