Wow, that are low scores to be honest. What don't you like about them mind me asking?
Dude likes his 90s stuff. When you listen to a lot of it, it's hard for the newer sort of trance to hold up to that - that's why I think 7.5 is actually a good grade by his standards. 6 is a bit low since I think this is on par with Hutan.

About the title

Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod (7 August 1876 – 15 October 1917), better known by the stage name Mata Hari, was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I. Despite her having admitted under interrogation to taking money to work as a German spy, many people still believe she was innocent because the French Army needed a scapegoat.

et het nooit wat weest, en en sal nooit wat wurre, ast in liwwarden geboren bist kanst et wel skudde.
😅
She was executed by firing squad in France.

Gonna post a very, VERY controversial opinion here right now, something that hasn't been said in this thread so far.

Really nice tune, great 2000s vibes. Loving it!

I'm not really able to enjoy Trance in its purest and modern form anymore. Mostly I enjoy the Trancey elements in other genres like House, Techno and even Jungle.

I gave a 6/10 point because the track is good/ok (better than the other 99% of posted stuff in the upcoming section), but I will not revisit/relisten the track in the (near) future, don't need it. Hutan was somehow unecpexted, the 303 works very great in it, and maybe the 'atmo' was much more closer to my taste.

EDIT: @Gagi haha thumbs up

Nice energy and clean production. Lovely smooth synths. Another winner on Pure Trance. Prefer this to Hutan, which I thought was well over rated tbh.

I actually prefer this over Hutan. This has interesting melody, while Hutan has...no real melody or catchy hook. The style is very close to 2004 progressive era. I can appreciate the overall sound, but Im not that over-excited as some others here....
Hutan 6
Matahari probably 7/10

Def not as impressed with this one. Not a toty :(

I would even go as far as to say this one is pretty boring. Time to step it up @hoopoe. Sorry (still wish of you more music) /Daysleeper

Hutan 8.7 and goes up to 9.1

Matahari 6.63 (if even that)

I'm sold. This is totally trance to chill out to material.
It is different from Hutan, and I think something changed: the mastering. Matahari would sound great on a large sound system.

For what it's worth, I don't think it sounds like 2004? Matahari is closer to 2007, Simon Patterson - We'll See era, especially the breakdown section starting at 1:28ish from the Solarstone set. Matahari is like the 2021 version of that old Simon Patterson style.

Fuck you on about... Almost spazzed out on the street this morning. Lovely track. We'd be creaming over this if it was released in 2007.

That said, I was expecting some sounds to pop out in the mix a bit more. But I love the style, and am certainly preferring it over Hutan right now.

I'm with the freezer.

This is the typical track that guys like Gagi would go crazy for. Nice subtle trance. Will put it in my playlist, it's a good track. But TOTY?

The breakdown is very nice, with various FX-ish sounds. The melody is nice. But it's a bit muddy, too much reverb maybe, too little "attack" on the main synth. The notes start to blend in each other... it lacks a bit snappiness... The notes come across like

taaadaadaaaaa, taaaaaadadaaaa

in stead of

TA TA-TA, TA TA-TA.

And I simply prefer it when it's a bit more TA TA-TA. I'm a TATA kind of guy.

Good post Jan. Good post.

Edit: Btw I have this on repeat now. It's deffo a great track. Anyway, I'd say this is way more 2004-2005, rather than 2007. If you listen back old ASOT episodes, these sort of melancholic (but uptempto) melodic tracks were all over the show.

Haha yeah that's what I meant. It's a bit subdued and sliiiightly flat, but I still enjoy it.

Tata means daddy in Serbian. We know you like that. 😏

It's amazing but I'm not sure if it fits with the concept of "chilled trance" yet. I'll re-evaluate once we have the full version.
For what it's worth, Matahari is a strong "track of the year" contender along with the Enigma State tracks

Im not sure why you keep calling this 'Chilled Trance' - its nowhere near that style, way too fast for a start.

Do a comparasion with hutan and say that Dayslipper is right. Maybe you are more objective than all the other 20+ fanboys on these 2 pages. NOT A SINGLE, NOT EVEN A BAD WORD, on this, just hugs and kisses. I'm dissapointed.

That one has much more charachter. This is flat. Listen on how the acids and fx just comes in so smooth and subtle in that one. How it carries the track, It both compliments the other elemtents and at the same time gives the track forward momentum and flow. love that its not perfect and crystal clear sounding. Its got some mystery surrounding its aura and its just a beast. Here the acid is predictible and dont support the trackin the same, he just throws it in and then it goes out. Same with the strings, really predictible and doesnt evolve into anything. Hutan also have like a cool middlepart followed by a second part which elevates the track to even higher grownds WITHOUT relying cheap strings. They did nothing to me tbh. Its too basic this time. Everything from structure, arrangements, sounds used etc. Not even the strings helps it that much.

Def a step down from Hutan, I mean just listen to the tracks side by side. Hutan can be listened to 10 -20 before you really hear everything it wants you to hear. This one is so predictible. Its also too similar to its father. Its just more clean albeit flat and predictible.

And what the f are you on about @dmgtz96 . Compairing this to Simon Patterson is laughable.

EDIT: As always keep in mind its daysleeper critique. Its a good tune, the positives overall outweighs the negative for sure, but I just need to take Hutan in defense here.
