Hard disagree

After first full playing, I have strong six favorites here:

The Beast
The Spirit Of The Universe
Transient Symbiosis
We Build It Up, They Break It Down (The Dark Side)
Evolution
Rest Now My Love

The first four tracks from album goes to the melodic techno sound, not my vibe but at least half of album is really good and wisely prepared :)

The first track sounds like bedrock, not melodic techno IMO. The groove in "Alone" is progressive and well-designed, too.

Listend to most tracks twice now and i am not as negative as some others are here. I do think he could have switched it up a bit with giving some tracks a higher tempo or more melody (there are 18 tracks so why not) but overall their fine. Most of these tracks will probably grow on me after more plays.
Some of the vocal samples seem a bit off but they dont bother me either.

I do agree that some of these tracks should have been released in 2020 or around that time. They sound like what Airwave made back then and most reactions on TF weren't positive back then either.

After listening to the full thing, the album over all is excellent.

I get what John was trying to do with the last track but vocals, imo, didn't work. I've made myself an instrumental ;)

Not just saying this because John's my boy but the production quality on this album shits all over at least 95% of the stuff I've heard over the last however many years. I actually told Kirill that this kinda pissed me off quite a bit because I'm still working on my album and this is by and large way cleaner. But you keep going, don't you. Life finds a way

Edit: only track I wasn't keen on was the pvd Collab, but that's purely because I like my kick and bass combos a lot chunkier/lower down in the register

This is more of trance I would love for him to be playing it's so deep and more of the stuff he used to play and make

That Euphoria CD (& Part 2) was definatly the best thing he ever did....it was a great concept putting new white label records on a comp - and i loved the write-ups he did on every track with a story behind it. There was a lot more character in these tracks than most of the progressive which is made today, which i find pretty boring.

We Build It Up, They Break It Down (The Light Side) - could have been a smasher, just without the rock / rap part - thats really shame !!! The main melody towards the end is brilliant :) - 8/10 - could have been even more

Other good tracks (8/10)
Planning The Demise
The Fire That Remains
The Spirit Of The Universe
Transient Symbiosis
Rest Now My Love

Decent tracks: (6 or 7/10)
The Beast
Omens Playground
Against The Algorithm
Rave Revolution
Tranceportation
400 Billion Suns
Evolution

The rest is okay-ish or slightly boring :)

Overally 7/10

Maybe traditional dance music is not well received these days—not in mainstream EDM scene, nor in indie music world, the post club scene, or subcultures. One could say that, taken on its own, it’s become useless, and is abandoned by the taste of the age. But to deny its aesthetic value without considering the album's context, using words like "lacking content and inspiration", is a completely unfair and unreasonable accusation.

As a common longtime fan of JOOF, I never expected people, including electronic music listeners would adore this album. It's abundant of “rough” analog signals, old-school 4/4 dance elements, and has a compositional approach that is highly cohesive, densely saturated, and resistant to listeners' deconstruction… Yet the final result left me largely satisfied, thanks to its impeccably tight, logically self-consistent sonic architecture and narrative structure, and the emotional vitality with the unyielding but unassuming spiritual drive infused within it.

My Personal Rating: 7.4 A-
Best Tracks IMO: 2 7 8 10 11 13 14 15 17 18
