I've always liked the 2010 Simon Patterson remix better, but only because I heard it first:
IMO it's a follow-up to Thump, more than Taxi is (which has a horrible drop with a useless breakdown).
The remix and the original are distinct enough not to have to choose between them to be honest.
I first heard the Simon Patterson remix, too!
That one is honestly an entirely different track. Their only thing in common is a faint background sample (the one you can sort of hear around ~2:20 in the video you linked). In style it's much closer to the late 1990s/early 2000s "racing video game" trance from Hook Recordings, and it's pretty apt for clubs. Meanwhile, the original Blackout is more like for a yoga/pilates class or to chill out, haha.
The Simon Patterson remix could have been its own track, with credits to John Askew for the sample. And yeah, it's one of the better Simon Patterson tech tracks that doesn't rely on melodies.
