To be honest I'm with Daysleeper on this one.

I think Big Sky is sort of... lame... If you are in the mood for cheese, it can be OK, like many tracks (say: Gareth Emery - Sanctuary). But a "stone cold trance classic" ? Hm, that's a stretch.

It's just not that special. Her voice is annoying. Too high, too squeaky voice. Not sexy or emotional. Listen to Jes in As The Rush Comes. That's sexy and fits the track. This one is just a pop song with a trance foundation beneath it. That foundation doesn't offer much either. It's all pretty boring. Very basic. I also don't see what's "technically" special about it.

The Agnelli & Nelson Remix offers some more energy, but it fails to add anything besides the beats per minute and a thumping kick. Also quite boring.

Standard 2007 trance track. Worse than 90% of everything that came before it, better than 90% of everything that came after it.

As for it being "not trance".... somebody already mentioned it but it's on exactly the same level as the Tiesto mix of Southern Sun for me. Obviously trance, but neither are quite my cup of tea.

Also, essentially just a second go at "Holding On To Nothing" by A&N and the same vocalist a few years before.

Yeah, the A&N remix is Holding Onto Nothing 2.0. They share the same backbone, but I'm not sure if they're in the same key. Holding Onto Nothing feels old for its time, whereas Big Sky feels 'modern.'

Hm, what do you think about her voice in Holding Onto Nothing? She sounds more controlled in that one, and her voice fits better with the track. I think that's one of the key differences between both tracks. Holding Onto Nothing feels like it was tailor-made for Audrey Gallagher's voice and lyrics, but Big Sky feels like it was made before JOC thought about vocals.
The original version of Big Sky took JOC months to produce, and it shows in all the little details he introduced in the track. Big Sky might be poppy and cheesy, but it also feels cohesive and dynamic. It's not ordinary, and at least the background track itself was crafted nicely.

Nah dude I disagree, her voice sounds great to me. And there is no rule that says sexy and brooding vocals are only allowed in vocal Trance. There must be 100's of vocal trance tracks that have the same style and energy as this one, and i'm not talking about euro-dance or pop styles.

It doesn't make sense to compare to the old. You know when Motorcycle came out in 2004 that those guys listening to Trance music in 1994 said "nooooo this As The Rush Comes stuff is nothing like Trance!...and nothing like the vocals we know too in dance music". They would have called Motocycle commercial sacrilege. In fact I guarantee you thats what they said. The lesson is that Trance changes but still remains Trance.

This is precisely how Tranceaddict treated Motorcycle/Gabriel & Dresden back then.

First time I heard As The Rush Comes I thought it was pop/rock with a beat. I was a noob back then but I instinctively wrote it off. Seriosyly though there are several tracks that are considered trance classics that arent really trance, they were just played and got hyped in the established "trance" scene.
